Ripper deserves more props than he gets. He's got a tough job. He gets asked to fill in for these popular bands, and he almost always gets a bad welcome because the fans are so devoted to the past singers. But without Ripper stepping in, these Bands wouldn't be touring or putting out new records. They would go on a 2-3 year hiatus, if not more, and that makes it even harder to "come back". So from all IE fans, thank you Ripper for keeping IE going with Jon for as long as you did. \m/

I'll agree that he's a very good singer, in fact, he's extraordinarily underrated, but the fact that he got asked to be in these bands doesn't prove anything about how good he is. Case in point: Blaze Bayley replacing Bruce Dickinson in Iron Maiden. Also, John Bush replacing Joey Belladonna in Anthrax.

I agree with fearthepib. barlow wouldn't sound as good as tim if he sung most of glorious burdon. Barlow is better with more emotional, or pain driven songs. Dracula, Watching over me, Angels holocost.

But, I believe the reason why The Ripper failed at iced earth is because he tried to fill shoes he couldn't fill. Like judas priest. or what happend when blaze bayley replaced bruce dickinson. Tims a good singer, Just not Amazing (imo)

the arguments will always come when the singers are SO different. Blaze and Bruce, Johnson and Bon Scott. what people dont realize is u do have to change ur writing style a bit to match teh singer so its tailored to harmonize w/ what u got. so the barlow stuff was creepier adn lower cuz he's a baritone. tim's stuff is higher and faster, brighter tone cuz he's a high midtone high flasetto singer. w/ that difference, ur comparing apples to oranges.

falsetto is like going up 12 frets on a guitar. u force a shortening of ur vocal chords to produce a higher sound, but sacrifice fullness u'd get w/ a natural high, like a prince who has a VEEEEEEEEEERY full high voice. if ur a baritone or a bass, ur falsetto is high but still lower than someone who is a tenor who's falsetto will be higher than deeper voiced men. listen to greenface, and u'll hear the HIGH falsetto. the intro to 10 thousand strong also. barlow does have more range though
