I think everyone has a fair opinion but this shouldn't be bought unless you think its the best looking gridlock but again i do agree the price is quite high. i also think its a good figure and im ganja get it for christmas and it'll be my first mp ever :)

I think that the brighter colors don't work for Grimlock. Chrome and "bling" as it were do not fit a Dinobot. They're meant to be Tonka tough not pretty shiny. Don't waste your money on more overpriced repaints just score the TRU exclusive for $70 USD. You get the steel gray colors WITH the comic crown. Can't beat the price or the figure. Takara, you rule, but in this case I've got to shoot ya down.

So the trivial accessories (bowtie, drinks, etc) were stripped from the King and Hasbro versions? If that's so, then I'll just pick up the regular MP Grimlock.

I've seen both versions in person (I own the former), and was relieved that the original release does indeed look better and, frankly, more expensive. The fact that TRU Grimlock is an almost complete re-creation of the MP-08 release (as opposed to extensive redecos like MP-01, MP-03, and MP-06 received) means that even moderate completists can probably just pick their favorite and feel sure they're getting all there is to see with the mold. :-)

i gt grimlock thru the post the other day but it was takara mp-08 but had the grimlock crown from mp-08x, nd it cost me 50 quid, well it was without box i guess lol the figure itself isnt hasbro either

Blue is commonly used as a stand-in for black in comics, as the black (ink) usually represents outlines and shadow, so one could consider the black in the previous or TRU release comic accurate, more so since Grimlock is gray in the comics, not silver. Some blue paint on the few black parts on the original release (head, hands, upper legs, and gun) and you have yourself a near perfect Marvel comic book Grimlock. Add some black shadowing and "shine" here and there and he's perfect!

interestng... but i thought the mp08 masterpiece from takara comes with everything except the crown... and the mp08X comes with the grown excluding a few things such as the apron and the head gadget...or am i comparing the wrong ones (hasbro vs takara)???? Did you try sticking them in together?

Why not just buy the crown from iGear for 15 bucks instead of spending $230.00 on essentially the same figure with prissy colors? Not only do you get the crown, but you get a Maccadam's Old Oil House mug and a miniature version of Thrust so you can reenact the opening credits from season 2!

I like this figure, but I wouldn't buy it. The shoulder articulation isn't as good as Masterpiece Prime's - his arms cannot be moved out fully to the sides so a lot of poses that the other MP figures can achieve are impossible. Also, are his gold T-rex claws able to be folded back along his arms as on the original G1 toy? I don't like the way they stick out from his forearms.

The claws can be folded down, but the joints are very stiff and then he cannot hold his accessories. I used to fold in the bottom single toe under the bottom of the fist, but for this figure I chose to leave them both extended. The option is available though.

I have the original mp grimlock, he's the ultimate grimlock. seeing as how king grimlock is so expensive, it's not worth a chromed out paint scheme and a crown to me. they should just released the crown as a separate accessory
