  • <3 I love you Portland. So pretty, no matter the time of year.

  • New England is the unique and historical cradle of the United States. I love New England, this is a very nice region with a lot of cultural and historical items.

    Thanks for the visit.

  • I've never been in Maine, I always think that the day I'll take the decision to go there it will be to settle me in Portland for life!

  • i miss my home i havent lived in maine in 10 years i wish i was back

  • Is the "Bug Light" here in Portland; or somewhere else?

  • @Umpqua1012 Its technically in the city of South Portland just across the Casco bay bridge

  • @Umpqua1012 Its in portland, in bug light park.

  • Looks very beautiful :)

    Greetings from Finland.

  • I'll be there and the rest of Maine next summer for the first time! Any suggestion on what to do?

  • I'm moving to Maine soon. I can't wait!

  • I was born there moved to Cape Elizabeth when I was 2 days old and moved away from Maine when I was 9. I miss it.

  • Wow.. amazing place.. absolutely amazing!!!

  • There should be more tall apartments in Portland Maine. Portland Maine alone should be over 300,000 people instead of 66,000 people. How about building solar power plants?

  • I was born and raised in mexico, I curently live in las vegas nv im thinking about moving to Maine or new hampshire for college portland seems like a beautiful city I just need to do more research on the university there :)

  • @nenagalvan

check out Orono, Maine. It's right outside Bangor and is where the University of Maine is located. It's beautiful up there and a great place to go to college.

  • i love portland haha, i go on a road trip from north berwick up to millinocket once a month, so i ride through here all the time, and ive stoppped plenty of times for the sea dogs, the parades, the festivals, the beaches and everything else, love this video, guys, when you get a chance by thw ay, please watch my video about maine

    watch?v=NDv1w55oplU

    thanks, from anotha mainah :P

  • Seems like an old person town. I'm going here on vacation tomorrow.

  • Portland is the Annapolis of Maine

  • Maine is the 4th lowest crime state. People respect your property, your feelings. Maine is 46th lowest in the nation for foreclosure, short sale, repossession. We live within our means, family and community give us purpose, mean everything. I am a personal fan of Maine, the state in the upper right hand corner of the country.

  • The city looks like a European city :)

  • @Damptarmac without the class of a European city....

  • Portland THE BEST!!!

  • Portland is great :)

  • The best ever from Portland was Mildred Elizabeth GILLARS! Before I knew her, I thought, that Portland was in Oregon and didn't know, that Portland is (at least) twice ...

  • @ajwebkinz914

I can imagine how much you guys have to hear about Portland Ore

  • @SecularTechnology Well it was named in honor of us so its okay.

  • @LordHannigan

Cool. BUt if I lived there I would be pretty pissed off if I say I'm from Portland, and someone els says."Your from Oregon?"

  • @SecularTechnology I get more pissed when I say I am from Maine and they really ask if thats part of Canada. Then I attack wildly.

  • From this video youd almost assume it never rained or snowed in Portland XD

  • Maine has many good things, but it also has it's bad side. It's unfortunately a bit backward and It has far too many bigots. I was born and raised here (over 40 years), but I don't feel particularly welcome in the land of "The way life should be".

  • One of the disadvantages to Portland ME is how far it is to get to any other major city from there. It might not be as bad as Burlington VT though in that way, but still.

  • @MrRuigni That's not true...Boston is a major city and it takes about two hours to get there.

  • @MrRuigni So what..lol not to be rude

  • everyone from Maine subscrice and friend me! MAINERS UNITE!!!! XD

  • lived there with my dad its a very nice place

  • I'm moving here with my friend to live and open a restaurant in a few years. I'm so excited.

  • Maines biggest airport is in Bangor. Bangor International airport. There is also one in Portland and little tiny ones around the state. Waterville, Pittsfield, Augusta, and Trenton to name a few.

  • @Skip10234 The Portland Airport is bigger than Bangor. A lot bigger

  • Maines the best. Its not too hot, not too cold, there are pretty much no natural disasters and very little crime rate

  • I live in maine :)

  • I'm mOvinG there with a beautifuL shawty from portLand ..!!

    I was bOrn in CaLofornia

  • I was born there =) Portland is the biggest and best city in Maine.

  • sthephen king

  • @giertta Stephen King lives in Bangor.

  • If i live in Maine, do i have to drive down to New Hampshire to go to the nearest airport? What is the largest airport in Maine?

  • @southwestguy223 The largest airport is right in portland. There's also another one in augusta. so no.

  • Portland, Maine is a beautiful city. But, if you only stop in Portland you are missing most of the beauty the State has to offer.

  • I don't like all that,any quieter outlying areas?

  • @JoeNJ1 yeah the whole state's quiet for the most part

  • I live in Portland :) I was born there too and it is a very nice place to live so if you vactioning or moving then move or take a vaction in Maine! =D

  • most un-american place of all america. ^^

  • Now, these sound like healthy states of minds, I enjoy hearing positive things said about Maine, especially the areas I frequent. I'm a spoiled CA gal, but have learned to enjoy the beauty of this Gorgeous place, it has taught me so much, I am also of the kind of mind that is intuitive, and tries to learn and adapt. I know now, that to find peace, I need to be in peace with all, which 1st begins with myself. Meditating is easy here, I love Maine, it is my 'Safe Haven' Happy Spring!

  • woh. this place looks wickedd. the snoggings pretty good there too. ;)

  • I lived in Portland off and on from 1980 to 1992. I never in my life thought I would stay away so long.

  • Manchester New Hampshire with a population of 108,000 is the largest city north of Boston. Portland's population is 63,000.

  • @MunseyProductions I believe they are talking about the metropolitan area, which makes Portland a 500 thousand + place.

  • i live in south portland, near cash corner, with a 3 mile bridge between there and portland. got to be the best place to live IN THE WORLD!

  • Surf??

  • what is the name of the show you got this from?

  • gosh the memories! it sure dose bring me back!

  • oh and those seaguls at :40 have got to be fake... wouldnt the pilot want to avoid that...?

  • LOL. projects?? try going to a real city. Where i from portland is like a haven. The only reason there is crime here is because this is the only "real" city in maine.

  • @IteachUParkour Are you out of your mind? There is hardly any crime in Portland. Portland is by far the best place to live in Maine. You have obviously never been outside of the state if you think Portland is like the "projects."

  • Check the crime stats of Portland Main. You only had 1 murder last year. That is absolutely amazing! In my city we have one practically every day!

  • portland? crime? your crazy your probably just living on the wrong side of portland

  • i have been to the portland PD station and there is hardly anyone there!

  • Compared to New Orleans, Oakland California, or New York, Portland is a hell of a lot nicer.

  • @Amiduffer Thanks, I live in Portland and its just special.

  • @LordHannigan No doubt. For a few years my sister lived near downtown, so I got to hang out in the city some. I'm in Los Angeles now, and I can add LA to my list of cities that Portland is cooler than.

  • @Amiduffer

    And dont forget Detroit

  • What about Stabface, Arkansas? Is it nicer than Stabface, Arkansas?

Do you know what they do to newcomers in Stabface, Arkansas? DO YOU???

  • @TheLogicJunkie Ha ha.

  • @Amiduffer Are You joking? Maine is a beautiful state all together! Much more prettier than compared to Florida; California; and Wisconsin!

  • uhh i wish i could move there

  • If I had to live in Maine, this is where I would live. I think Portland is such a nice little city. Good bars, good food, and no crime whatsoever. Only drawback is the climate, which it's Maine so it's not great.

As for the people, I would say people from Maine are generally friendly. Are they the most open people? No, my father is from Maine, he's born and raised there, believe me these people are used to doing things their way and don't want others to tell them differently.

  • He makes Mine sound so classy hahahaha! Proud to be a native though! Go Maine and your yummy seafood!

  • Thank you for this beautiful photographic montage.

I who lives opposite PORTLAND Lighthouse .. in Brittany (France).

    Tom, Liverpool UK

  • Dear Portland, Maine,

    Hello.

    Love,

    Portland, Oregon

  • Dear Portland, Oregon,

    Hey.

    Best wishes,

    Portland, Maine

  • I live in maine. its a beautiful place

  • @TheSingingPeople cool! :D

  • This city looks like a sleeping giant of potential. Especially as a tourist attraction. Beautiful images.

I drove through Portland on my way to Acadia National Park one summer with a friend from Dallas where I'm from. I remember passing through the city and being a bit enchanted by the scenery. All the water and islands. It was amazing. I wondered why it didn't have a bigger profile. And the accents were great! A couple of times I couldn't understand what some locals were saying to me.

  • I'm 20, in college, work 48 hours a week but somehow I just know I belong in Maine. Mind you I live in Seattle, WA so this will be long away from home. Regardless, once I get my teaching degree, I'm out of here. Beautiful place.

  • @JimiHendrixLobbyist That's a lot like what happens to me. As soon as I get my PhD, I'll try Maine. That's got to be the most "me" place in the whole world.

  • I just accepted a job in South Portland. I am so blessed. I can't wait to see it in person. I start 8/23/2009

  • god i miss home. grew up in Gorham ten mins from portland

  • I want to go here one day.

  • I lived in falmouth for 6 years just 5 mins from portland. i really miss it;-(

  • I lived in Portland for 4 years, and the place is just awesome. Can't wait to visit again soon!

  • Anyone from portland maine should look at my profile! We've got live music there!

  • Yes suh Portland and Maine ahh awesome

Soon we will have ow ah own NBA dev team the Red Claws.

  • Mainers talk like that but they don't type like that me being one and everything. But yeah it is cool that we are getting a NBDL team.

  • Portland is lovely, I ust return soon if only to taste again the smoked fish chowder at 3 dollar deweys

  • Don't really matter if its 150k or 60k, it has everything you need for a city. Its clean, wonderful, and one of the best places to live. I have lived and visited many places. Portland Maine is truly a gem. People who do call Portland home are truly blessed to live there.

  • I live in Maine!

  • i have lived in many places in Maine and all depend on what city your in..... overall i would say they're friendly

  • Many people in the state of Maine is layed back and keep to themselves, I know because I live in Maine.

  • I cant stand people who keep to themselves which indicates that they are less outgoing and rude. Maine is a very beautiful state, its just a shame that the people their are so close minded and snobby which makes me not wanna go their. I love Maine a whole lot, but the people their should have a change in attitude instead of thinking so suspiciously whenever someone smiles at them

  • thats nice

  • also check out southportlandadventures website

  • Not everyone in Maine is like that. I think that's a closed minded attitude you have yourself. As we say like attracts like. You'll find that anywhere.

  • They sound like their from Europe...

  • Honey, it's not rude to keep to oneself.

It is, however, rude to say that because the people you met were closed minded and snobby it means that all the people who were born and raised there are horrible.

You say you love Maine, but hate the people-- that's the mark of a tourist.

  • Naw i aint generalizing the people in Maine. Personally people are people no matter where you go, its just thaat i had a bad experience with some of the people their. But then again it probably wasnt my luckiest day being their for the firsttime anyways

  • I have a question for all you Mainers? How are the peoples attitudes in the state of Maine?? Are they freindly and layed back?? Or are they cold hearted??

  • We are nice if you mind your own business. I wouldn't say that we are laid-back though.

  • @spitzbully Well, more of the lazy types..I live in maine so yeah.

  • I love Maine! I live in the southern reaches of Auburn and we are sorrounded by forests. From summers warm enough for swimming and even to hog the A/C to winter cold enough for a lot of snow and even a heck of a brisk morning! Spring and fall are great to. Sure is beautiful since most of the state is heavily forested!

  • I love Maine I've lived here all my life and never want to leave although Boring, yes at times it is safe and comfortable little to NO natural disasters here either not much to worry about

  • Well, the movie said it was the biggest city north of Boston, and "clownd91" said something about Manchester, New Hampshire, so I just had to make a correction.

  • One thing to say ..... Portland, Maine might be the biggest city north of Boston, Massachusetts in the U.S.A, but in actual fact, the Biggest City, (Actually), north of Boston, is Halifax, Nova Scotia. Portland, Maine has (Approximately) 243 000 residents, but, Halifax, Nova Scotia has (Approximately) 283 000 residents, 40 000 more than Portland, Maine..... Just as a fact.

  • who gives a damn?

  • i believe the video ment its the biggest city north of boston in the us. portland proper only has about 64000 people. The 'suburbs' are really there own separate towns. south portland, westbrook, cape, even adding those in 243k seems a bit high.

  • Well 1.3 million live in Maine and a lot in these areas as its closest to the sea and closest to Boston.

Those that live in the Northern Parts of Maine like in Moose Head lake region is less populated. However the second largest city in Maine is Bangor.

But it has a population around 40,000.

  • 150,000 > 109,497

I'd say it's still bigger than Manchester. ;)

  • this host's voice is so storytelling like..

  • I am so lucky to live in this state. It truely is the best state I have ever lived. I am not a born new englander I was born texan. Lived in Nc,Sc, Ga, Nm, Tn, Fl, Pa and yep I would recommend maine over them all.

  • Crazy Talk, I will take my Sunshine of being a Native Floridain anyday. I love Florida

  • I want to move to Maine. It's so beautiful. I lived in California for 17 years, and then Florida for 10 years. And now at 27, I'm ready for Maine!

  • It's definitely not a Chicago or New York, or even the next bracket like Boston or Washington DC (all cool cities), but it seemed MUCH nicer than small cities I've been to like Indianapolis or Cleveland or Syracuse or Cincinati or Providence, and part of me would like to live in a safe small city- temporarily.

It's actually quite hard to find a city in America that is both non ghetto and non redneck so you should be proud of your town. It gets Chi Town approval despite it's size.

  • Who is the narator? his voice sounds familiar.

  • Great video! But just a minor factual correction: Manchester, NH is bigger than Portland, as far as being the largest city north of the Boston metro area in New England. But even if you're just talking about the largest city north of the city of Boston only, there are a few more that are larger than Portland: Cambridge, Somerville, Lynn, Lawrence, and Lowell in Mass, and also Nashua, NH.

  • I've never been to Maine but I hope one day I can move there. I always liked the outdoors and I am sick of big city life.

  • Wanna see a nice HD Video from Portland watch my.. recently made in HD

  • bealtiful place to chill

  • Can't wait to visit again, hope to live there someday.

  • hahahaha funny i live here and I'm moving to California!!

  • ohh i used to live there! i love and miss portland

  • Woww. I'm moving there! :)

  • i live there and if you like at great outdoors you'll love it

  • The home of a great newscaster - John MacVane. One can hear MacVane's distinctive Mainer accent in any recordings of his WW2-era broadcasts for NBC.

  • i spent the most beautiful 5 years of my life living in Portland!!! it is the most amazing city in the world!!! i miss you Portland!!!

  • THATS WERE I WAS BORN

  • do you still live there becasue that's where i live right this second

  • As a resident of South Portland myself which was partly included in the video, I say PERFECT! Portland and Maine are awesome!

  • mrthompson, how far is it from a mountain view from Portland? I am thinking of going later this year or early next. It does look like a pretty city! :)

  • My dad used to work as a sailor in Portland (Maine). He told me that there was snowing like hell - even though were Finns. And snowshoes were popular :P.

  • I miss Portland so much! I used to live on Bramhall Street right by Maine Medical Centre. I worked there one year for NS Tourism, right out of the Portland International Marine Terminal while the MS Scotia Prince sailed during its last years. I loved the city so much, and whenever I see these videos or pictures of Portland I miss if greatly. I hope to live there once again! Thank you for this video!

  • Mainah's ruleeeeee!

    especially Portland Mainah's!

  • I can't believe I'm moving away from here after 8 years. I'm going to miss it very much! I plan to return as often as I can, hopefully being able to purchase a vacation home here one day! May the gods bless Maine!

  • Jeez, moving *away* from Portland? How on earth can you cope with that? I hope at least you're lucky enough to not be moving to Mississippi.

  • whoo! i live in cape and love just hanging out at the fort!!!!

  • Portland is a beautiful city. But Manchester, New Hampshire is the largest U.S. city north of Boston.
