On each heart video that i watch I see comments comparing them to led zep, and this is really funny to see how we do not choose genres of music we like.
Before I knew heart and still nowadays, I happened to be a huge fan of led zep. And now I crazy on heart without having known that they might have been conected in a way...
Beautiful lady....and a voice to match. Everyone always talks about how pretty Nancy is.....which she is, but Ann, in my opinion, is the cuter of the two.
I figured out the order of the show. Mainstage (opener) Heartless White Lightning and Wine Dreamboat Annie Silver Wheels (intro to Crazy on You) Crazy on You Sing Child Soul of the Sea Devil Delight Magic Man (closer)
Very evocative song to listen to on the stereo and it was great to see Ann's live performance and interpretation do such perfect justice to her and Nancy's composition. Very moving song to listen to and really quite majical to see it enacted and performed live so exquisitely.
That is an amazing video - thank you for posting it. I was in college when the Dreamboat Annie album came out - bought it (and many more from Heart) and have been enjoying their music ever since. This brings back incredible memories....wow - thank you again!
I saw them last night in Baltimore and Ann sounded amazing! Her voice is so piercing...love it...and Nancy was rockin! They look so great for being 60 years old.
Well she is 60 years old, that is why her voice is starting to get raspy and not sound like it used to. But in this vintage clip Ann and the band are in perfect form..except for Steve, geez man please get a different shirt.
I've never seen speaker cabinets like those. They must be custom made. This is Heart at their purest & best; before the record companies had to start meddling with their sound.
I bought this album about ten years ago at a thrift store, after hearing Magic Man on the radio (in my pot smoking days I decided I would only listen to music on vinyl) and this song would put me to sleep every night after smoking a fatty and having a couple beers. I don't smoke the weed anymore but this song still does the trick for me.
@TheHeidiGame ....Thats probobly because Roberts voice althought grand...has a tendency to sound alot like a crying baby...where Ann's has alot of finesse and flows like water wheather its a stormy ocean or a calm pool or quiet running stream that she wants to convey.
This has a similar feel to LZ's Rain Song. I think the universe would come together nicely if Robert & Jimmy embraced Ann & Nancy on a musical venture. Oh well...I can always dream <3
I saw Heart back in April in Minnesota at Treasure Island Casino. Magical. They still have it.
Lucked out and ended up with amazing front row seats at a long sold out show.
I went up to the ticket window the day before and just asked if any tickets are turned in to announce my name on the casino floor. They didn't want to do it - but an hour later...bingo!
freakin awesome Anne and Nancy knows how to belt it out and does a good job doing it. i overlooked this song when i first got "dreamboat annie" (focused on Crazy on you, magic man, dreamboat annie, and sing child. but this song is an eye opener-complexly structured. Wish i had tabs for this song; can't find it anywhere. you have any???
And they are getting better at mid-fifties - get the dreamboat annie dvd they made in July 2007, it also has Mistral wind and some covers - boy! WOW! awesome! and when Ann hits that note in the middle of Soul of the Sea .. it make the hair stand up on the back of .... er ... EVERYTHING!
wow, its been so long since i've heard this, and I've never heard it live. thank you SO MUCH for posting this. I wish Ann and Nancy knew how much people loved them, how so many young women are rediscovering them. I wouldn't be who I am if it weren't for Heart. Thank you ann and nancy!
Aw, ya think? It may be in some ways, but certainly not in the way female vocalists (and women in general) used to be. You ever see a female performer expressing herself with the same sort of naturalistic sensibilities as Ann does here? You'd be very hard-pressed these days. At least in American mainstream music.
What a great performance! Ah, the good old days! I bought Ann's guitar tutorial DVD, she's a very innovative guitarist, and has a great voice in her own right!
mike I have to agree with you about the recent state of ann's voice but i think it's some dumbass producer who has told her she needs to sound more "modern" so she is messing with the sound. even the best artists have moments of self doubt and influenced by morons. i hope she can find her self again i was not impressed with her singing on the new album it's very harsh and i have heard her sing live for a long time. but she is still the goddess of rock!
I think you just solved the reasoning behind her current vocals. I remember Ann saying for the Brigade CD, they wanted the group to sound live and raw, and that's when I noticed her sudden change in her vocals. It wasn't like that on Bad Animals. Only from Brigade on after CDs is when Ann now sounds, as you put it "harsh". Some singers sound cheesy being all pitchy-like, but in Ann's case, it was magical.
You're on glue Mike--there are only a few women today with Ann's range (Cyndi Lauper, Pat Bennatar, Trisha Yearwood, etc.). Hope they're inducted into the Hall.
Insults deleted. Keep it civil guys. By the way, I agree with Mike. Ann hasn't sounded very good in recent shows.
And as much as I love Cyndi Lauper's first album, sadly her subsequent work and career choices have been utterly inconsequential. No way is she in Ann's league.
I just saw the Dreamboat Annie concert. I mean even though, they've got the string section and extra vocalists and such... Seeing the original lineup do the songs seems better. And also, I'm sorry to any hardcore fans, but Ann's voice is shot. I'm amazed she can still hit the high notes, but her voice sounds like it's gonna give out any day now.
It really is frustrating how so many music videos are placed on YouTube with the volume at so marginal a level. The quality here is fantastic - just can't hear it....
Ann-There is nobody(Man or woman) cooler and more bad-ass than YOU in this video-any doubters can watch this video and it should convince them very fast!
Damn I am worshipping her watching this.
And I always thought Ann was the better looking of the two. All my friends wanted Nancy but Ann was my fantasy!!!
The RRhof shouldn't wait until A&N turn 70+ to be put into their HOF inductions.... HEART belongs in there NOW becuase they're still the best LIVE act around..... after nearly 40 years THEY DESERVE to get in NOW!!
At the current rate of 7 acts per year inducted into the RRHOF, all the best bands will be dead or senile by the time they're honored. And they apparently have to fellate the political correctness crowd too, so we have non-rock acts like Grandmaster Flash and Miles Davis taking up valuable space. The whole hall of fame concept is antithetical to the spirit of rock and roll anyway, so I suggest we all just ingore those retards.
Pretty amazing stuff! If you compare Ann's voice in these vintage videos with her voice in some recent videos, I think she's gotten even stronger! Only the best can continue to perform at the top of their talent after 30 some years of making music like this! Heart have earned their place among the best!
Woah! I just had a flashback with spaced out feeling and all. Thank you so much for this vid. It brought back so many great memories from my late teen years. HEART RULES!!!! Yesterday, today and forever!
Vintage Heart....and an absolute treat to watch. Their lyrical and musical abillities, and love for what they do is the fuel for their longitivity. They have perfected their art.
And Ann, the queen of rock in one of her best performances.
I wore out this record in 1976, and I've never seen this video.
Al the guys in HS thought it was dumb to like girl singers.
I sacrificed my "ccolnes" and didn't give a shit about LZ, because Nancy was the guitar goddess, and Ann always held me spellbound... I could not believe her power.
I'm 14 again, and Dreamboat Annie is all I can see.
Agent Jay...I never had a problem with guys in HS in regards to likin Heart...Linda Ronstadt and any other girl artists. Maybe cuz I was bigger than most guys..who knows...but the way I saw it was all about talent and great music....whether it was guys or girls..thats the bottom...and Heart was a Very Talented Band !!! The Wilson Sisters and all the guys!!!
You didnt like Led Zeppelin??? I cant understand how anybody wouldnt like Zep...anyway you have great taste just the same cuz you are a big fan of Heart ! My god I remember being 15 and listening to this album over and over and over.....Feelings that Ill never forget !!!!!! We were lucky to have these beautiful ladys while growing up !!!
You are correct, WE WERE LUCKY to have this band when growing up and HEART,FLEETWOOD MAC,EAGLES,LINDA RONSTADT ,Planted the SEEDS in us OF REAL ROCK AND ROLL AND TODAY ITS ALIVE and well inside us and deep in our BLOOD.
TODAYS younger people WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND how LUCKY WE WERE.
I went to a HEART concert for the first time in 1980 on the BEBE LASTRANGE tour and the next day I went and bought all there albums AND have been a HEART FAN ever since.
Totally the Queen of Rock! Annie has not only the best range & vocal perfection, but she can kick it out with all the power & rawnness of Joplin when she wants to or hit those perfect clear high notes better than Mitchell! This series of videos truly is Heart at it's best line-up!
Man, I just want to cry. Thanks for these old Heart vids. What a great gift to humanity. Thank God for Youtube. Thank God for you. Thank God for the Wilson sisters, and anyone who ever helped them get their thing across. I will always love the original Heart best.
These early recordings remind me of early Zep.This album was recorded at mushroom studios Van B.C. shortly after they established themselves as the best band in my home...Magical Vancouver B.C. Canada..
if you have never visited, come see why we call it supernatural B.C.
We had Ann Wilson and Stevie Nicks in the '70s... incredible talents who wrote their own music and broke new ground for women in rock. The 80s had even more women (mostly in alternative music) writing and singing great music... what happened to girls in rock? Check out Flyleaf videos with Lacey Mosley to hear a modern girl ROCK!
thanks for posting this I like this one too Im glad to see some recently uploaded old heart. now if only nada one exists that would be great to see I love the accoustic on that one for real.
When this album came out and I listened to this song the first time, it was then I thought Heart reminded me of Led Zepplin. I wish someone had a live video of Heart playing Stairway to Heaven and post it here.
It's songs like this that made me love the old Heart, and when I first saw this I was amazed that they were able to pull it off live. Their sound was quite diverse in the early days, anything from folk to hard rock to funk.
@Untefelehrr well I think they used to hang out together, and right songs

When this album came out and I listened to this song the first time, it was then I thought Heart reminded me of Led Zepplin. I wish someone had a live video of Heart playing Stairway to Heaven and post it here.

It's songs like this that made me love the old Heart, and when I first saw this I was amazed that they were able to pull it off live. Their sound was quite diverse in the early days, anything from folk to hard rock to funk.

I wish there was a video for that song, but AFAIK there isn't. :-(

I've always loved this song...to say it's mellow is an understatement--whenever I'm sitting in traffic, this song makes me relax...
