i want a Rottie so bad :( it depresses me to know i might not ever get one, or in 4 years... my fav breed<3 only seen one, but LOVE at first sight! goofy giants!
I have an English Foxhound. I've never left my 3 yr old cousin alone with him, as you have to watch. He'd never hurt her on purpose but if she pulled his ear or something, you just don't know. He is a big softie that will let you do anything to him, but he's quite broad and doesn't know his strength so could easily knock her over.
She adores my dog anyway, and I think it's great that she's got a love for animals at her young age :)
I'm not sure i agree that it's "all about how they're raised". There are some dogs out there who just end up aggressive, whether they're "raised well" or not.
That being said, I've yet to meet a Rottie I wouldn't trust around my kid. My neighbor, on the other hand, has a Golden Retriever that *I* won't go near. And the majority of dogs I've been snapped at by/bitten by in my life? All under 20lbs.
As for the growling; it's play growling, my black mouth cur does it. Lighten up.
Aww! I absolutely adore Rottweilers for this exact reason - they can be so loving and loyal! I love how he's tickling the child's feet. It's so precious!!
people who are criticizing the dog are complete idiots. whether it's a chihuahua or a great dane growling at somebody, the thought is the same. if you teach your dog properly, no matter what breed he is, he will be good.if you teach him improperly and he bites,it has everything to do with him being taught improperly, and nothing to do with his breed.the only reason some dogs were bred to attack is because certain breeds are stronger than others. That doesn't mean they'll use that to hurt someone.
I am a dog lover and as much as I love dogs, a dog is still an animal. Letting a Rottweiler playing with a baby like that scares the shit out of me, even if the baby is laughing. One bite to any part of the baby and you will regret for the rest of your life.
@domchang23 Once a dog recognises a child as part of the family they will protect it with their life. Its only the poor owners who mistreat and beat their dogs to make them mean and fight which is when dogs snap out of mixed signals and phsycological abuse.Hamsters are seen to be fine with kids yet have caused a huge amount of scars and blinded more then a few kids.Knowing this now would you see its the intelligence and how you raise them not what the size of a pet which is scary. :)
Hi! There is a video on my utube account about my darling Puppy Jd who is losing her Life, Watch the video, there is a very important message as to how this can be stopped happening to others. It is heartfelt and if her video could make people think twice then some good has come on this whole travesty. Thank you for reading and i hope you can spare a few minutes to watch our video and share if you agree on your network sites. Thank you, Luv me & Jd.
@rocodoodledoo the reason, historically, why people dock their dogs tails is for working and guarding reasons,a tail can get in the way of work and could possibly cause the dog injury ,with guard dogs its as about fighting tactics,if the dog doesnt have a tail, the intruder has one less thing he can grab or bite, but people nowadays are idiots and think that they have to just because "its what you do"but it isnt, and you should only crop or dock your dogs tail for working reasons
Cocker spaniels are known as a breed to be pretty temperamental therefore not suitable to be around most children. As always there are exceptions and you can train the dog to do otherwise, but most cocker spaniels are like that. Pits are known as a breed to be great with children. As I said though there are exceptions and you can train the animal to do otherwise, but most pits/Amstaff are great with children.
I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion but that comment definitely is ignorant & shows some people dont really know much about the breed. Rotties are wonderful dogs if they are trained & brought up right, just like any other dog. I got my rottie a year before my daughter was born & she instantly became "his baby" & protects her from anyone, even our other dog. I dont get nervous at all with him around any of my 4 kids! They are very loving animals. ANY dog can be nasty.
@Nee32379 Its sad how they have such a bad rep, like other breeds because people who dont know about them & only go by what they hear. There are also many GOOD stories about these dogs, yet all anyone goes on is the bad. I know a bigger breed CAN do more damage but that doesnt mean they WILL. Im very glad I got my rottie & will never own another breed. Again, I know were all entitled to our opinion but people should do some research before forming an opinion.Shouldnt stereotype. Its just wrong
Lets put things in order, I am agree with you, any dog can be evil of course, but, why do you think the rottweiler is a dangerous race(like pitbulls)? because they become crazy at any time? NO, because his physical characteristics(musculature, neck, jaw...). And what is the difference between a rott and a golden retriever or a cocker?? When a rottweiler attacks you you cannot stop him, how many death do you know because of a golden retriever attack???
@arago999 Punish the deed, not the breed. You sound pretty damn racist.
Just because each dog has different characteristics does not mean that one certain type may cause more harm. A golden retriever is just as likely to fuck shit up if riled up enough.
@andrachao That makes no sense when certain breeds specifically exist because they have been bred for their violent tendancies. Everyone always goes; "My pitbull has never hurt anyone and therefore all pitbulls are fine." But you don't know what's going on in that dogs head. It's not a human, it's an animal, an animal that is genetically designed to kill things.
I don't judge people who have these dogs around children but it is nowhere near worth the risk in my opinion.
@andrachao you read me but you dont understand me, i didnt say the rott are always angry i only said that they are dangerous due to their body, let me ask you a question: i you had to choose a dog to protect something what dog will you choose a rott or a chihuaua?????(and i said chihuaua because according to you any dog can be dangerous LOL)
@arago999 There was a Chihuahua my Aunt owned that seriously injured her young son. Yes, small dogs can also inflict more damage than most realise. Did you know that the lovable Dalmatian is very common to have jealousy issues with children? Why is this nt well known? Because the media portray something contrary to that. The fact is that a Rottie well brought up is one of the top most stable and trustworthy breeds available. Capacity to hurt and propensity to are two different things!
aww =) I used to hear so many storied about how our old rottie Duchess did this to me hahahaha =D rotties are so sweet and wonderful pets, I couldn't have asked for a better doggie nanny! R.I.P. Duchess <3
@arago999 This is a really ignorant comment. Depending on the family and how it is raised, the dog can be as sweet as a lap dog. And they are intelligent. I would personally never get one because they are much too big and shed too much, but my boyfriend has one. & she is just as sweet and well behaved as any golden retriever or lab is.
@andrachao why is my comment ignorant? because i tell you the truth? look, in my country there are a lot of deaths caused by these type of dogs they are considered one of the most dangerous dogs races. I dont doubt that dog is well educated, but just look at him they are so tough and so big, they can hurt any child just playing with him. And please, do not compare a golden retriever with a rottweiler, it is clear they are not the same.
@arago999 How could you say that a golden retriever is totally different? All dogs aren't born to be "bad" or "vicious", a golden retriever could be just as bad as any "evil rottweiler" you might be thinking of. I don't see the point in hating a dog for being affectionate and protective, and lots of dogs are good with babies, regardless of breed. Its all in upbringing and personality.
@arago999 It is true that rotts, pits, and many other large breeds are very powerful, but I've seen more mean golden retrievers at our veterinary practice than I've seen mean dobermans or pits. I don't let my children near any dog I don't know, especially small breeds. There are more bites from small breed dogs per year than large breed. I understand your concern for the child. As a mother, I can assume this mom wouldn't put her child in any danger if she didn't trust the dog.
@simplysillymarcy I am totally agree with you, i like all animals, but all they aren't harmless, we had a cocker and he was very violent and always was bitting, once i arrived home from highschool and i saw in the kitchen a spot of blood on the floor, my dog bit my sister's hand. Although that pitt is well taught he is still a powerfull dog. There are not bad students, only bad teachers, but you have to consider the dogs character is inherited and they can be evil, like as happened to me :)
@rocodoodledoo It isn't animal cruelty if performed at the correct age. You do it when the bones in the dogs tail are still cartlidge. I have docked many dog's tails and rarely do they even make a noise. In the odd case they do make a noise its more a reaction to being held still than whats happening to the tail.

@ kramnodd9 "God... what a little shit that kid is. Please, smack him. Hard."
What the f*ck?! How is the kid a 'little shit' exactly? For being cute? For playing with his doggy friend? For giggling? Keep your retarded nasty comments to yourself in future. Encouraging someone to smack a baby.. really? Jeez!
I don't think I'd ever let my dog take any part of my baby or small child in its mouth. Even if it is just for fun in one situation, it's one step closer to real biting in another... Nice to see how much fun they're having, though.
@rocodoodledoo they get cut because some dogs tails are very easily broken, and it is very painful for the dog to go through...boxers alike, or the bigger the dog, the bigger the tail. The bigger the tail, the more painful it is for the dog.... what does it matter? I'm sure you're against boys who don't have foreskin too right? calm down.... it's less expensive to get it cut than it is to fix it once it's broken.. and it could cause discomfort the rest of their lives... get over it
Dog: Stay on the chair. No, don't get down, I said stay on the chair. The chair... *Looks at the camera* MOM HE WON'T STAY ON THE CHAIR... Hey come back here!
that dog is looking to play u can see it but u just have to watch to make sure the kid does not kick the dog to hard or he may try to defend him self becaues i can hear the lil playful graowls/gruns when he gets taped by the kids foot but its all play to the kid AND the dog
