@lurch321 Yes it's a jacks term. onesies,(pick 1 jack). Twosies, (pick 2 at once). Threesies, (pick 3 at once). foursies, fivies, sixies, and so forth.
Why did that little girl carry a magnet in her pocket? lol..anyway, these were the GOOD 'OL DAYS! Now sesame street is all politically correct and that little weasel elmo with his cell phone and email! UGH!!!!!
From 0:12-0:14, it looks like that teenage girl didn't care and was making fun of those three kids who dropped that jack in a spot they couldn't reach it since at 0:12, she gave a small laugh like she didn't care and went back to reading her book instead of trying to come out and reach it or to get something in the house to grab it with.
Does anyone have any sketches from Canadian Sesame Street or Sesame Park (the Canadian version in the late 1990s and early 2000s)? I live in Canada, and am familiar with those.
@stromssa Exactly! If a kid today over heard you asking them what they were on and they saw a child playing jacks, you would have allot of explaining to do!
Watch when the girl gets the jack, listen to the music between 1:22 to 1:30 and imagine the home basketball team has the ball and passing to each other and a player makes the shot.
I did too!! I don't know why I thought the jack was in a sewer drain when I was little....maybe because of the iron bars and the way they had to stoop down to try to get it?? Anyway, I was so glad to see this again after all these years.
Why does the older sister help with the string when she already saw what happened when the jack fell and she just laughed? I would have just pointed and done the Nelson laugh from 'The Simpsons' if that were MY sister. HA-ha!
The funny thing is right after they go through all that to get the jack back, they go right back to playing in the same spot! You'd think they'd play somewhere else.
Sure, these kids WOULD just so happen to have a magnet and string on them. :j Although at 1:04, it looked almost like that big girl's book was gonna fall out the window, and how would they fix THAT problem?
Nonetheless, this is one of my favorite classic SS segments. It has an overall happy tone, and is very defining of its time period!
i agree 100% sesame street is not at all how it used to be. old skool sesame street was a heck of a lot better with better music, better scenary and fun clips to watch. now its dull and boring!
The silly synthesizer music from this clip really took me back. I could never to find one of those horseshoe-shaped magnets as a kid, had to get by with weak little refrigerator magnets.
Somehow I don't think many kids these days would actually want to play with jacks, not with all the Wiis and Xboxes around. And their parents would consider jacks to be dangerous choking hazards.
Somehow the camera angles, the music..THE FACT THAT THEY WERE TRAPPED ON A STAIRCASE!!!! why couldnt that older girl in the window open the gate??!!! it all built an an impending sense of loss and despair. ha its ridiculous.. irrational. but true.
This is good stuff.

Is "threesies" a jacks term? Actually as a kid, I thought she was saying "freezies"! Shows what I know.

What was the point of this clip?
coyote374 2 years ago
1. It teaches one to think "out of the box" to solve a problem.
2. It teaches about magnets & magnetism ( a little bit).
