  • Why can't it be a woman in love with an insecure man?

I loved Tori Amos and this song since it came out.

  • I've recently fallen in love with this song and video, even though I'm not a fan of Tori Amos. I've listened to a few songs by her, and I've enjoyed them for the most part though. :)

  • I love the pentecostal scenes with the dancing and the snakes and the wild craziness that comes with that brand of Christianity.....takes me back to my youth...though we never had snakes or drank poisons....we had everything else though...all the good the bad and the ugly..I think religion in general is so appealing to humankind because it allows us to lose that sense of individuality and become part of an idea that is larger than you..can be a force for many great things and equally evil things

  • As a famous artist I find her courageous when she puts religious ideas into question. I can imagine that this video will be thought provoking to some part of mainstraim religion, but she is not promoting another specific religion here. She only makes you (re-)think about your own conceptions and views. I don't think I would like to eat together with rats and mouses I agree with her that you can play with them rather than kill them. Wonderful video and song.

  • Sorry, with "mouses" I mean "mice". My mother tongue is Dutch.

  • i love her..i was on my own in my early 20 when i discovered her! having just "lost"a baby, removed form my parent's house after my mom picked a fight with me and had a nervous break down. she helped me through...her songs were great pals to me when i had no one..:||

  • @fireferryable ; Yes, I adore Tori, too. Sorry to hear about your past misfortunes & all! But yes, I always found Tori's music to be inspiring, and moving to the spirit. When I was down, it brought me up. You felt as if you were being shown a way to defeat all the bad things that plagued you. So yeah, I can understand.

  • No matter how one breaks it down....she just f'n nails it everytime!

  • How does this song feed evil or glorify evil..I think you've misunderstood the meaning of this song completely..."give not thy strength unto women..etc..." is central to the songs meaning...she is basically saying male dominated religions are crap...and that mainstream religion has demonized anything feminine in religion and glorified anything masculine....patriarchy..something feminists (Tori is a feminist) tend to be avidly against.

  • @framedanddried That's exactly what I have always taken from it. I am a male Marine and I argue against male domination in religion. I was in my Religions of the World class. I was saying how bullshit the bible is. I gave examples like 1 Timothy 2:12 "I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet." and Deuteronomy 22:28: Which says that if a woman is raped, then she must marry her rapist. Some religious women in the class defended the bible. It's silly.

  • I liked the song I never seen the video it is the video that has disturbed me not the words

  • I used to really like Tori Amos, but this seems to satanic for me, and I am not particularily religious or anything, just feels dirty in a way that is distateful to me, and to be honest disappointing cause I used to love her, but this makes me question if Tori Amos glorifies evil and feeds evil

  • @muddymaeable Its called symbolism. The fact that some things are 'sacred' makes them perfect targets for people who have, at some point, called their significance into question. Having said that, Tori is a bit weird sometimes. But its weird in a cool way.

  • @muddymaeable Perhaps it's the rats? The rats here are reflective of a sect of Hinduism that considers the rat sacred. It's a shock, I admit. But I think she is actually celebrating other forms of worship. I hope you can see past the vermin element.

  • @muddymaeable ummm, this is one of her oldest songs. it's off her second album i believe. if you used to love her so much, how did you miss this?

  • love the song...quality could be better. Just a suggestion. :)

  • I get why the sound is all defunct, but it ruins this beautiful song none the less

  • Thank God one of these videos isn't blocked :P

  • I love it when she calls God "babe"...!

    Tori is gorgeous!

  • beauty
