wow you guys are a bunch of sissys talking about how thats a cheap play in hockey and headhunting........dude keep your head up dont get mesmorizd by the puck on goal......hockey is a physical game. just because local leauges wont allow hitting or checking doesnt mean it doesnt belong in the game.
@owenboen67 he played college hockey, 90% of those guys skate with their heads down, but i hear there is a rumor they are getting rid of the moronic cages. Think about it: Kariya, Kessel, Booth, Heatley, guys who get htier shit rocked often, Toews needs to take a lesson from his old teammate T.J. Oshie on taking a hit.
You guys can argue all you want to about the hit. The hit was NOT given a penalty. Bottom line. End of story. DONE!!!!!
To me it was a bit late but basically a clean shot. What do you expect them to let him tip toe through the tooplips coming down the middle after a shot?
The hit would've been clean if he'd made it while toews still had possession. Idk it looks late and a bit unnecesary to me. It is a good hit. I mean the only dirty thing about it might be the timing, but idk.
Exactly. To knock him on his ass. No other point. Thats called head hunting. Which to me and many others is a cheap shot and to others its not a cheap shot. Learn to live with some elses opinion. Grow up. I was never crying, only stating my opinion and you seem to be whining and crying about my opinion. I respect your opinion, respect mine. If you don't you can't change it. Sucks huh.
OK, so in that case, wouldn't it have been interference because he prevented him from getting to the puck by hitting him. Also wouldn't it have been smarter to just stand in front of him and block him. Thats the only reason I find the hit cheap. Now I really don't think that was the reason, I think the reason was really to send a message, to put some intimidation in him.
The hit isn't cheap, I would also argue MrCorwings reasoning, hitting is part of the game, you don't need to hit him there to prevent the rebound, but it is more viable than just completely making stuff up like you are.
No I understand its a defensmans job. Like I said, hes headhunting, getting Towes's mind off of the game. I find it cheap, but some people think its part of the game. It is what it is.
@Kartkid024 Have you actually ever played hockey. Its a rule thats been in place since i was a little kid paying amateaur hockey leagues. And im 27 now, so its been a rule for a long time. They put it in place so you cant just dump the puch to avoid a hit. 2-3 seconds after the puck carrier releases the puck for a shot/pass. i dont make em, just follow em.
Where is this rule. Where. Its not there. 2-3 seconds, thats a little extreme, I'm thinking people don't understand how long that actually is. But even if, All I'm saying is I could accept that if he had atleast started the hit when he was at the least releasing the puck. But he started the hit a second after and the shot had already hit the goalie. Thats head hunting, thats all I have against, legal or not its still head hunting.
So what your saying is the hit was to seperate him from the puck. Sorry not even close. Head hunting with out a doubt. Its beyond me how you can even deny this one here. My guess is you don't know or understand what head hunting is.
No a head hunter is someone who goes after a player (most of the time a star player) and hits them to either deliver a message or change the momentum. Its basically someone who hits some one for the sole reason of hitting them. Not to stop the puck, not to take him out of the play, but just to hit him.
It doesn't have to be an illegal hit. Which this one can clearly go both ways, but its still head hunting, whether thats right or wrong has been a debate and depends on the situation.
hitting people just to hit them is fine, I don't know what crackhead league you grew up watchign was. It isn't head hunting, look up matt cooke on savard or kovalev on tucker, that is headhunting, now leave this discussion you homer
But to hit them just to hit them and serving no other purpose, well, thats what they do in football. In some cases it good to like I said, to change momentum or send a message towards a physical team. But I don't know what else happened in this game or what lead to this hit. I ask you though, be considerate to other peoples opinion. Its not a big deal.
No not really. but if you think so. I'm not complaining about this one, just that its dangerously close to interference, which you can't tell me its not. And if hitting always has a reason, what was the reason here.
@Kartkid024 the purpose is to wear him down, and yes you can't take seeing a hawk get hit and have to whine, you also never give up your weak arguments, you are an outrageous homer
Exactly, wear him down. That is head hunting. Thank you. Its good to see you finally understand. Your name calling is very childish. I wouldn't call it being a homer to say this hit is close to interference. It clearly is. I'm sure even you can't argue that.
you're an idiot, that was absolutely no elbow, you're probably one of those people who think scott stevens also elbowed lindros and gave him a concussion, when he clearly didn't
it wasnt a late hit at all if you even played hockey you would know that you have 1-3 seconds to finish a hit after the player shoots/loses the puck to finish your hit, plus he stopped any chance for a rebound, this was a good hit had the guy not got knocked onto his ass noone would have even said anything about it, but since he got laid out all you blackhawk fan boys are freaking about it
players are allowed to finish their check shortly after the guy has got rid of the puck. plus, the defender had to make sure toews couldnt get a rebound should there be one. you dont know shit about hockey.
ya but he didnt start his hit till way after he shot that rule is for players already in motion was a cheap hit do that here in canada and itd be a brawl
You can't hit a guy to prevent him from getting to a puck. you can stand in front of him as long as you hold your own ice, but you can't hit him. Thats interference.
I think that rule only comes in effect if you start the hit atleast when he is releasing it. He didn't even look to hit him till the puck hit the goalie. Had he atleast started towards towes when he had the puck then maybe, but the fact he was moving away from towes when he released it I'd say no.
But what I was responding to was the fact people said that he hit towes to prevent him from getting to a rebound. In that case it would have been an interference call wouldn't it. You can't prevent a player from getting the puck. In fact the goalie is considered in poss. of the puck when Towes get hit, so again interference.
Thats your only defence, cause the refs didn't call it. Cause we all know the refs have been so great this year. Grow up kid and don't post unless you have a defence and go about a conversation with out throwing out childish insults.
Well, 3-4 as close as those numbers get. All I'm saying is its close, real close. There is no 2 sec rule, if anything I'd limit it to 1 sec and this was 1.5 secs. Its close either way, but again what gets me is the fact that he didn't start the hit till after it hit the goalie. Also I heard the argument that he hit him to prevent him from reaching the rebound, in that cause it would be interference.
key word "finish". He has to finish the hit. He didn't even start it till after it hit the goalie. Its very close to interference and could be called either way. But with out a doubt it was a late hit.
But what I don't understand about that is if he is hitting him to prevent him from getting to the rebound isn't that the definition of interference. The hit its self is clean, but its way late.
yep totally clean Matt Cooke could learna lesson from Smaby on how to actually deliver a clean hit...not all the dirty shit him and players like Chris Neil get away with
