@OCoptimusconvoy It's also because that's the way most official lego robots are built, so NXT-G keeps those input positions as default for the different sensors. But it really doesn't matter which port you use (except for #4, which is faster), especially with official LEGO sensors.
Cool vid! But I've got a question: I also saw this at other NXT Machines, why are there these pegs at the motor which turns the tracks?

@123Maffin ya but 1 and 2 are for touch, 3 is for colour/light, and 4 is for ultrasonic.
