The air cleaner is up by the throttle control... so the tube is the clean air feed into the carb. Here in Australia the ground is very dusty so it makes sense to try to put the air filter up high, so it takes longer to clog up.
@miketheredneckable also because victa is an australian company and australia is a dusty place the air filter would be higher off the ground to help it not get as contaminated with dust. but yeah it saves a lot of bending over when preparing the engine
Iv'e got one of these mowers. I got it for nothing cause it had no compression. All it needed was a new decompression valve and it's still going strong.

Hi there people. I also rebuild small machinery for fun and kicks. I have a newer Victa mower and the carby is giving me trouble (Im sus about the needle and float) does anyone have any web links to other sites that hold information on all the variations and settings"if any" for the Victa range?
Dude! nice mower. Nice one pull start...how its ment to be.
Yep sounds like mine, however mine vibrates like whatever. Been used as a block clearer/dozer. Best Buy for $499-00 1996 dollars. Had a 160CC that had the head planed, ports modified and main jet drilled. It liked a drink but put out power, Shame Dad chucked it as it was an alloy base Victa.
that a big problem with the lawn-boys.. mainly the bottom crank seal... i converted one a while ago.. made a new carb mount so that it runs horizontal instead of vertical.. i never knew how much power one of those suckers had untill i hooked it up to an old scooter.. great mowers

what's with the huge tube going to the throttle control?

@Vacmasterthegreat the air cleaner is also housed there for some odd reason. i guess to make accessing it to help make troubled starts easier?
