So much hardship and sadness on both sides of the family. I never knew about Ragged Schools. With the hardening of attitudes today due to the rough world enconomies I fear some callous politicians will try to bring back the workhouses and abuses that Charles Dickens wrote about. What a family of survivors Robin comes from-wow!

It was even more of a man's world back then and certainly the male doctors wanted to keep women in their place. How nice that Robin reached back in history to reclaim Cecilia Lynch's good name.

The baby died, yes; but if an autopsy had been conducted they would have discovered more than what meets the eye... The 30s are harsh anyhow...on everyone especially women.
