Raf. is my favorite analyst by far. In every game its obvious that he LOVES college basketball. If he's on the crew, I'll watch games on ESPN (I'm a PAC-10 guy) even if I don't care about the teams.

The Syracuse player being described by Raftery was/is from Belgium. That's why there was the Belgian waffle reference.
Raftery is far more intelligent than he lets on. He's silly, colorful and zany, but so much of what he says is thematically relevant to the action. He's a nutty professor of sorts, a more polished and reserved Al McGuire, if you will.
For the National Championship game, it should be UConn and Duke, and the announcers would be Gus Johnson, Bill Raftery and Dicky V
