Once again, I've deleted the comment from the poster with the offensive username, but the comment again is valid, so I'll repost it here: "dude it's in Juley 13 article you're telling people to check out"
My response: Sure enough. July 13 was a long time ago and I didn't remember. I do have to wonder why the test scores started to go down? Didn't Rhee replace all the bad teachers with shiney new good teachers? She might have done better to support the old ones.
I've deleted a comment from a poster with an offensive username, but I thought the comment was fine. So, I'll repost the comment which was, "Officials also reported that the percentage of students scoring at advanced levels has doubled in elementary and secondary schools since 2007. "After rising 20 percentage points from 2007 to 2009, the elementary math proficiency rate dipped 4.6 points this year, to 43.4."
@DCVisions Here's the rest of the comment from the post that I deleted. "She's still up by 15.4 points. Why is anyone complaining? It's not really a surprise. Americans have never had the balls to effect real change when it makes their lives even the slightest bit more difficult."
My response is that I haven't seen a 20 percentage point rise from 2007 - 2009 in test scores reported anywhere. If anyone can substantiate that claim that would be great.
I'm just learning about the bones of this issue, and I can't find any good reason for not having summer school. If the children are so behind, this is counter productive. I understand budgets need to be balanced, but we all know there are other more appropriate cuts, not those that harm our children.
Sorry it's taken so long to respond to your comment. Have you read the Washington Post article from July 13, 2010 entitled D.C. elementary test scores show decline. Check it out.
@DCVisions I just read the article, thanks for the recommendation. Looks like Fenty and Rhee has some explaining to do, they shouldn’t have placed as much emphases on test scores, now it’s come back to bite them. I never liked the idea of “teaching to the test”, which sounds like the meat of the issue. We need new ideas, something progressive yet transparent.
change can be tough, especially in a city with intrenched bad policies and terrible education. SHE IS CHANGING THINGS FOR THE BETTER, what is the alternative? the status quo? no one is for that, i hope
@Mooo173 I find it distressing that Rhee is willing to ignore the will of the elected city council and the laws that guide budgetary decision making. If everyone did that, we'd have chaos. I think the jury is still out on whether or not Rhee's changes are positive. Even she admits that test scores were rising before she got the job. Schools where she's made the most changes have not shown improvement, some have even seen their test scores decline.

I can tell she is democrat, they all have this insane belief they know what is right and quickly have forgotten the process of how our government works and believe in the name of "what" they "believe" to be "right" can ignore our government process. This is very dangerous as those who have bad intentions given such powers could parade such changes as good when in fact they are self serving this is why our government has checks and balances.
You will release the information regarding your comments that you fired teachers who beat and molested children or you will be held accountable by the full force of the law and obstruction of justice. You can not just fire these teachers they should have been put on trial for said crimes and you are responsible for letting such criminals go free to commit such crimes again,
otherwise you are guilty of libel and slander against the teachers of DC. The World isn't fair. however the student dictates their own success or failure. Their are many stories of people of the lowest class raising to the upper class however if someone is too lazy or doesn't care no matter of improved teaching will change that.
I like that Mr. Gray!

Did you know that Paris Hilton attended FOUR different PRIVATE HIGH SCHOOLS!
Marywood-Palm Valley School in Rancho Mirage,
Convent of the Sacred Heart (which she attended with Lady Gaga)
Dwight School in New York
Canterbury Boarding School, in New Milford, Connecticut (After she violated the school rules, she was expelled from this school in February 1999.)
Finally, she just got her GED.

Progressive yet transparent. I couldn't agree with you more.

@Nenendude Better to teach to the test than what they're doing now.
