@ri053 Halo wasn't originally intended to only be for Microsoft/ Xbox. It was going to be released for all platforms, but Microsoft made them an offer which they accepted due to a problem Bungie had with a game they made previous to Halo in which they lost a lot of money.

The halo before halo was called Marathon bungies first game, in some points in halo there are marathon refrances like on the covenent drop ships in between the pincers is a plasma grenade symbol (marathon symbol) marathon had gametypes such as Slayer CTF firefight and campaign. it is now avalible on the Xboxlive Market place for 1200Microsoft Points.

Plus, in halo reach, spartans have their helmet off. Could be a terminator thing, but i think they're human.

A spartan without armor can lift 500kilos, has 500% faster reflexes, unbreakable bones covered in creamite, bulletproof ribcage, larger heart and lungs, increased vision capabilities and many others. They were trained from the age of six. Their suit allows them to run with speeds of up to 120kph and so on. That's book-wise. You should read the Halo wiki for more.

@dragonkingofthestars other then their armor (which is not an augmentation) their augmentation is purely biological. More blood going to the eyes, stronger bones, ect. There is nothing mechanical that is BUILT INTO THEM that makes them stronger. The only grey area of that is of course the AI slot but that doesn't increase their physical ability in any way.

@daktre Actually, Eric Nyland release Halo: Fall of Reach the same day as Halo COmbat Evolved. That book didn't have anything related to the game. You obviously haven't read any of the books because NONE of the Halo books are based off a single Halo game. The books expand the Halo universe.

But most of the other books just expand the universe like you said. Like what happens to the other spartans in Ghosts of Onyx and so on. But 343 said that Glasslands may have something to do with Halo 4 but we'll have to see.
