Putain!
I have to inform you, that you use an photograph, which you don't hold no rights on it. It's made by NORBERT NOWOTSCH in 1974 and I have to inform you to get in contact with my before I will take legal action against you, thanks
Wow, just discovered Moondog today.....heard 'Moondog Monologue' in a shop and had to find out who it was...amazing! Love this song too, more to discover yet, can't wait!
I think we'd all agree that Moondog is Avant-Garde, to me he seems to have taken it to a whole new level. Not just the music, but the way he lived his life seems to me to be one great piece of performance art. A true genius.....
@jimmyhayers Have you heard some of his more obscure material, though? Before dismissing him, I'd suggest checking out the Goldberg Canons (as well as his other late canons), Canonic Variations, Art of Fugue, the viola da gamba sonatas, etc. Bach was pretty versatile, and I would argue less redundant than Mozart. Not to diminish Mozart; both were great geniuses.
@thinedoor2 Yeah my parents absolutely love Bach I've heard a lot of the ones you mentioned there. I do like his piano work a lot to be fair it's just out of all his music that I've heard there's only a small amount I really like. I'll look into the ones you mentioned that I haven't heard though, thanks for that.
Damn...Moondog had such an amazing bandwith of different musical styles. It seems he was jumping forward and backwards to the whole history of music and created his own futuristic melange. This sounds like a forgotten Beatles Song flavoured with some baroque and folk music. Simply beautiful and a great message.
I remember that I tried to convince my harmony teacher in music school Ecole Normale de musique de Paris of the quality of this music. But she took me for a jackass: "Well, it's very poor hamonically, and very repetitive. I hope you're not the composer of it..."
i totally agree mate. it's got that very quaint, pastoral sound, especially the high voice, lilting piano melody and the lyrics are very englishy (if u know what i mean)
@musicmansixty7 Gentle Giant sound like Moondog sometimes but Moondog is really a one-of-a-kind genius, much purer and much more of a serious composer than any prog-rock group. Both Igor Stravinsky & Frank Zappa were fans of Moondog.
found em, yippie: Do your thing! Be fancy-free to call the tune you sing. Don?t give up! That?s not the way to win a loving-cup. Do your best, and Opportunity will do the rest. Don?t give in! Capitulation is the greatest sin. Do what?s right, what?s right for you, to do with all your might.
Don?t regret! What might have been, you might as well forget. Stand your ground, and while you?re standing there, be duty-bound. Learn to wait, and while you?re waiting, learn to concentrate. Make amends! All enemies I call potential friends, Calm your fears, and hope you cope at least a hundred years. Make your mark! If need be, even make it in the dark. Mum?s the word! My sage advice, pretend you haven?t heard.

Mozart agrees with Moondog on Bach's status.
I always feel awkward around those who think Mozart was above Bach.
"maybe they know better than Mozart" I ponder...
ears61 11 months ago
@ears61 I love Mozart, I don't like Bach. It's nothing to do with technical proficiency it's just my personal taste.
