Being the daughter of a minister has taught Tori how to REALLY listen to the messages that are trying to be conveyed; I think that Christianity, like her music, has the potential to be a rewarding and healing experience, but only if you take time to listen to the message with your heart and soul. It's a talent and device that she uses very well. This isn't English class!
@ccharisse I'm pretty certain she's referring to a leather whip. I could dissect the lyrics but I assume you've done that yourself. In any case, this was my first and lasting impression of the meaning of this song.
Best version IMO. She does the song more sadly now, seems to me. Someone else commented that that approach kinda takes the energy out of the song and I regretfully agree. I love the wry, bittersweet humor she used to bring to it, which we see so much in this version. Great, great song: this is the one that really made me fall in love with her music. Delicious melody, wise, witty lyrics...wonderful.
