@aPMism - amazing isn't it? everything is perfect.. intonation , dynamics...the control he exhibits over every note... it's just awesome. i hope he tours the US at some point, i'd gladly stand in line in the cold for a few hours to see him perform.
This makes me wish I'd never favorited another video. Or at least had the option to "super favorite." As a lifelong classical musician I have never seen anything quite like this. Astounding!!!!!!
i kno whe is Russian,. but in Russia people are treated much differently, in states u can have minimum talent and still get a chance to make it out THERE, but for him its going to be extremely hard, :( non the less, I WISH ALL THE DAMN LUCK THERE IS IN THE WORLD! i hope you make it OUT and spread your talent !
I'm from Colombia and here people play the accordion as part of the representative musical folklore (which I don't particularly like), mostly on the west coast of the country. But this is the first time I've ever seen one this big!! And someone playing it with such skill and passion!
@sebastiankreuz Russia has very talented people (no offense) and if they somehow do reach the big successes, the problem is that this work, the profession we are very poorly paid. You know the Russian people drink, not all of course, but they kill talent. We get a little money, so all the drinking, especially in the villages.
@Alya318 with all respect, I consider that regardless of being drinking or not, the talent is there, if people don't succeed, no matter where they're from, is just because of a lack of will, opportunities are many and people with such skills like this guy are the proof that even their music could reach the other side of the world.
@Alya318 Spending 5-6 monthes every year abroad i can say the Russians do not drink more then other people. Never shall understand those who support this myth. Politicians get their money by such myths. They use radio, TV, newspapers, maybe this is enough? Why use You Tube for these dirty games? And why not to give your time and energy for supporting young talents instead of dark forces? Surely not of all of us have money to help culture but everybody has energy.
@sebastiankreuz It is clear that the strength of will and all that, but that is not paid! You know what makes us a teacher in a secondary school? By your standards, it is $ 300 per month! That's why people go to work there, always pay a little better, but on the talent necessary to put a professional cross. This can do for my own satisfaction, but as a profession - it is not paid, I know that our professors are working on five papers to get $ 1000 per month ...
Lucky I found this video since no tags are in English. Excellent performance! I only wish this instrument was as widely respected in the US because I'd rather majored in this than piano - thought I enjoy both.
Born in 1983, Alexander Hrustevich started to play the bayan by the age of 6. He graduated Ukraine's National Academy of Music as a student of prof. Besfamilnov. Apart from his solo activity, he is also a member of the National Academy Orchestra.
He revels in the virtuosic spectacle of fingers flying and sliding and contorting over buttons and in the same time picking almost every note cleanly. It’s rather like playing the Bach Passacaglia on a travel typewriter, only harder.”(The Musical Patriot, D. Yearsley, 2009).
As prof. David Yearsley writes about Mr. Hrustevich’s recording, which he saw on Youtube: “The small stage on which Hrustevich demonstrates his art is festooned with yellow and orange balloons and fake flower garlands, the camera is hand-held, but despite all of this, you can feel how great are this virtuoso’s gifts.” The professor also compares his interpretations of Bach Passacaglia with a pianist: “Tricky passages that the pianist divided between the two hands, Hrustevich manages with one.
Mr. Hrustevich plays many transcriptions of classical music, for example, Tchaikovsky Concerto for violin, and what is most extraordinary -- he plays both orchestral and violin parts simultaneously. He also plays Bach, Balakirev (“Islamey”), Rachmaninov (“Vocalise”), Wieniawski, Vivaldi, Korsakov (“The Flight of the Bumble Bee”) and other pieces of classical piano and orchestral repertoire.
Ukrainian-born Alexander Hrustevich is one of the best bayanists in the world. Mr. Hrustevich is constantly invited to perform in many countries, including Poland, Austria, Germany, Italy, Spain, Russia, Serbia and many others. Just recently, he performed in Kiev, accompanying the world famous musician Bobby McFerren. He is a winner of many international competitions, including “Golden Accordion” (New York), ”Od baroka do jazza” (Poland), ”Accoholiday” (Ukraine) and others.
Wow, this man is an absolute musical genius. Remarkable control, expression, and interpretation. What an incredible talent. Any serious musician can see that the bayan in his hands is very formidable. No one should ever make fun of this instrument after hearing this!!!
Guys, who are coming here like people from the moon, it is NOT an accordeon, it is called bayan. If you really can hear the music you should feel the difference in the sound. There are a lot of people playing this instrument for more than a century and some of them playing very good. In 21 century, having google more often than wife it is not really difficult to get learned the world.
@barquester "props" is American slang meaning "proper respect." When you give someone props, it means giving them recognition for a job well done. It's not a reference to a stage prop.
Wow, i can't believe we were afraid of these people for like 50 years. The USSR didn't fall because of internal strife, or because communism is flawed, it fell because this video was leaked. The tough, mysterious facade crumbled revealing a virgin-for-life that spent every waking minute playing an accordion, go figure... :D
If they ever make an Accordion Hero, they would need this kid to even begin making an expert mode! Simply out of this world incredible. I wonder if he had to transcribe the music or if they even make accordion sheet music. Either way… Awesome!

What Flavor! Along with the joy at hearing a really great performance not only of the Tcaikovsky, but of the accordion. Reminds me of when Joseph Hofmann said, "my hands are an extension of my mind!"
