@fuzzynavel100 actually amplitube does have a feature to import your songs on your iPod library so you can play along. just slide the top section and on the right side you will find a "Song" tab, tap there and you will see at the bottom "add song"
Dude. If your that serious about recording, just purchase the Amplitube Software. I'm sure iRig is just for playing around and allowing for you to hear what your guitar sounds like.
I'm currently connecting my guitar directly through the line-in jack in my black MacBook. It works but there's a lot of buzz!
In this video you are splitting the irig's earphone jack in two; one for your earphones and the other into GarageBand! I wonder how GarageBand is handling that input. Does it detect it as an electric guitar? If you output a clear guitar sound can you apply an effect or an amp simulation? Can you tweak amplitube to output a clear unamplified guitar signa
@basketballer 3333 You need an interface to plug your instruments into the Mac.I use/suggest Line 6 ux2.It comes with a ton of effects/recording sodtware, about $160.
Can I use this to plug into a blackberry? I have a roland rp80 modeler pedal, and i want to record on my blackberry... well, my main question is, can i plug my guitar into a pedal board, then run the pedalboard into the irig? or will the signal be too strong? i assume it'd like cut the signal down on it's own? this is the best adapter i can find for plugging a guitar into a phone, but i dont know if it can do what i want...
Hey nice video but i was just wondering can you just use the irig to play directly into a mac? Because the mac advertises all these awesome effects you can get for garageband when plugging in an electric guitar but i couldn't find a device to do that. So basically can i just plug my guitar into the irig, then the other end into the mac and work?
@basketballer3333 Good question, so I just tried it - no joy. Doesn't work plug directly into the iMac's line-in or plugged into a USB microphone either (which is weird since I've plugged my guitar into a USB microphone with a simple guitar lead/3.5 headphone jack convertor before and it worked just fine.
@basketballer3333 b.t.w. I recorded the sound from the iRig in my video by plugging it into a USB microphone that came with a headset, then into the Mac.
To record directly into a Mac you would need IK's equivalent product, StealthPlug or the bigger StealthPedal. This would give you the interface plus the AmpliTube software for your Mac (or PC) plus recording software.
At 3:29 Graham Barlow's iMac gets mail. I thought it was me!!! I paused the video, checked my inbox, and nothing there. Rewound the video a bit, started playing and more mail arrived. Still nothing in my inbox. Then I realised it was on the video. D'oh.
@GordonCharlton Sorry, Gordon! Actually, I think it's mail arriving on my iPhone. I ought to have turned mail checking to manual before I plugged the iRig in and set it to record.
@MacFormatUK No problem - it didn't spoil my enjoyment of your demo. I'm still waiting to hear how it performs with line-level instruments though - if it's good with them I want one for my theremin!
@GordonCharlton Forgive my lack of musical instrument knowledge, but I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "line-level instruments". It's designed specifically for guitar and bass...
@MacFormatUK Hi Graham. You know how you need to feed your guitar signal through a pre-amp before you can plug it into the line-in socket on your MacBook because otherwise it's too quiet. Most synths and theremins don't need that -- the signal level is already a lot higher than a guitar.
The blurb for the iRig does mention briefly that its good for line level instruments, but claims like that don't always work in practice. I may have to route it through an expression pedal. We shall see...

can this be used so that we can get the audio in & out from the MacBook Pro? since the MBP only has 1 audio as in/out..
neverbeenachamp 1 year ago
@neverbeenachamp I believe so - the iMac has the same audio input, as a MacBook Pro, I believe. Both have:
"Audio line in minijack (digital/analog)
Audio line out/headphone minijack (digital/analog)"
MacFormatUK 1 year ago
@neverbeenachamp Just tested: YES, it works.

@neverbeenachamp Yeah that's a shame MBP only has one jack for in and out, I never understood that...
I have to use a USB soundcard (BTW you *must* have this kind of thing to do serious recording)

@MacFormatUK Part 2: To be fair the product says it only works with iPod touch/iPhone/iPad on the box. They make another solution for Macs.

@tukangcritic There's a headphone jack output on the iRig - you can plug that into anything that will accept it as a source.
