  • get ride of the tivo or call rivo

  • keep the tivo

  • kill your tv!

  • how the fuck can a tivo remote control an air conditoner

  • omfg this same thing just happened to me I FUCKING HATE IT

  • Well i like to say Thanks you LOL as i lost my remote to the AC and i seen this Video So i tryed Every remote i had And My Tv remote Worked =) Now i can use My AC again As the Model i have Don't NOT have the Controls on it =(

  • on........off......on.......off lol

  • Ha ha, the same thing happened to me and my Haier air conditioner.

  • contact amana and tivo to see if they can help.

try a piece of the black vinyl electricial tape over the IR sensor on the a/c.

could try rearanging the furniture or the a/c so the a/c is behind you when you watch tv.

I can also sugest removing any mirrors or reflective objects from the room and cover up any glass objects.

If its really a stubbron pain. You can get at the circuit board on the a/c and remove the IR sensor from it with pliers. shure to void any warrenty

  • hmm, get rid of the wimpy remote and keep the tv remote

  • Great to know the two can work at the same time, but it's getting HOT! Keep your A/C. CoolYourRoom dot com

  • haha ide get rid of tv and go buy a vcr

  • get off your lazy ass and use the a/c manually

  • As Proto said, cover the IR sensor on your air conditioner.....do it manually

-OR- get really old batteries that are almost dead and use them for your TiVo, this way the signal shouldn't reach your AC

  • Here's a link to how to install 2 TiVo's, which is the same concept, IR interference, it should help:

9thtee.*com/tivotips.htm (got to remove the star, sorry)

  • I vote cover the IR sensor on your AC. If you really need to use the remote, just uncover it again and don't use your Tivo control. That's better than getting rid of either expensive piece of equipment. There's always a solution to technology better than throwing something out.

  • Just cover the IR sensor on the air conditioner.

  • Definitely get a new AC unit. LOL

  • Wow...you're an internet superstar.

  • Get a new remote dumbass. LOL

  • Its a tivo remote, why would another one be any different?

  • Hold the Tivo and Pause buttons at the same time. once the light lights up press a number (1-9) three should work fine. then visit your system infomation screen and verifry the remote address has changed.

  • ditch the air conditioner!!!

  • Get a new universal remote!

  • Try changing the address of the Tivo remote. There should be 3-4 to choose from. Tivo has this feature so that if you have multiple tivo's in the same area, the remote won't control all of them.

  • I did pull the instructions for changing the remote address on a tivo off of the internet. For some reason the software in mine is slightly different than the succession listed on the net and for me it dead ends a few steps into the process.

  • What I found says:go to TiVo Central bypressing the TiVo button. Select Messages & Setup, then System Information. Press the DOWN arrow until you see the item "Remote Address."

  • On my box the succession is Tivo central --> Messages and Setting (rather tah setup) --> then there is no "System Information" but rather "Account and System Information" --> System Information --> and inside there is just an info sheet with my account status and other information with no selectable options. Not sure where to find the remote address function under my setup.

  • put a mirror over the IR sensor?

  • Ok, there are a couple solutions:

    1. Avoid the select button, it's rare you need to use that over the arrows.

    2. Build a routing IR solution that will only send the command to the AC when you want to control it. You can get some IR gear from Xantech (google it) to do this. This is expensive.

    3. Get a Xantech's IR MS1 & cover AC sensor. Progressively make a hole bigger until you get line-of-site control.

Post this is on the forum at Remote Central (again google)

  • Have you tried putting masking tape over the IR receiver on the air conditioner?

  • yeah i worked on that for a while yesterday, it still gets a signal through a couple of address label type stickers. I put up a few layers of double sided tape with the white glossy backing still on it and the ac will still get a signal if the remote is aimed in its general direction but it has cut down on stray signals from the direction of the couch.
