  • I'm sorry but your Joch is in another Castle...

I'm here tho so use my Shady powas!

  • I'm sorry but you sage is in another castal

  • thank you randy but your sage is in another palace

  • i know this video is old but Evil gate i think has a chance of instance death. to non-bosses.

well i'm 90% sure it does i just never seen it.

  • Lime Slime is actually weak to fire--not light as one would expect.

  • I just noticed that these are the sprites from Children of Mana on the ds!!

  • Your cats always sound like game sound effects. Like once time I heard one mew and it sounded like a chochobo and just now it sounded like a sword hit sound efect.

  • 6:30 Great epic music! A great job as always, HCBaily.

I am currently working on a 'Let's Play' on Secret of Mana myself, but...it is...to be frank...different. You can have a look if you want. ^_^"

And I agree of finding the sage to be a bit of a pain. But on the bright side, you get stronger down the road.

And on the magic issue? Remember when Undine said that Parim uses her defensive and Popoie uses offensive? That is your answer. Typical stereotype of Darkness and Light.

  • nice Wall Street reference

    Gordon Gekko ftw

  • So, in the 16 months since this video, no one pointed out that Lime Slime is actually weak to Fire and not Light, like I assume you thought? Well, he is.

If you figured that out by now, forget I said anything.

  • Evil Gate is like a death spell. It doesn't work too well, though. Dispel Magic does dispel Wall, though it has to be a equal or greater level to work.

  • lol it said "Lime Slime gets whacked"

right before you checked to see what it was... Not paying attention for the win!

  • I hated how many times I had to go up and down the mountain, especially not knowing about the Sleep protection.

lol at JB's Burger King joke.

  • Dispel magic does work on wall, It just has to be high-level, like level 6.

  • IIRC, Wall creates X layers of spell reflection, where X is the spell level of the Wall. Conversely, Dispel will remove X layers of reflection.

  • ah yes, true. thanks for replying!

  • Mamona is a word for cash in polish, just came to my mind

  • how do you charge up your weapon

  • Three Cheers for giant blobs in Zelda 2 !

  • more like 2

  • when only the sprite got shade, i thought my game was glitched or something.

  • the king looks more like the KoT

50 cool points if you can guess who im talking about

    hint: Hstar Runr

  • King of town!

    AND THE CROWD GOES WILD

    WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO XD

  • Right when you said "let's find out", it had said "Lime Slime gets whacked" lol

  • Are you gonna do SoM2 aswell? Although I think this was by far the very best game in the series and one of my all time favorites

  • Popoie got it with his / her whip.

  • no popoi got him

  • Man that slime guy is huge!! But.. "There's always room for Jello!"

  • A greedy burger santa king

  • I remember where in Zelda 3 you're talking about.

  • Man, this game is really making me want to go back and play the old 2D Zelda games again.

  • Sounds good to me (LP hint hint)

If that tree was made of gold I wouldn't mind raking the leaves in the fall!

  • turning rock to gold with mana guess its better then the whole anything u touch turns to gold deal.

  • i'm really glad you did this as a side LP. i've never played the game before and wondered how it was. maybe after this side LP, you could try super mario RPG

  • I'm sorry, your Sage is in another palace.

  • Lime slime huh? Sounds tasty

  • i always love both the slim bosses how they would shrink or grow ever time you would hit them

  • Dispel Magic always worked for me if Shade's level was at least the same as the spell level you want to remove. Like a lvl 8 Wall needs lvl 8 Dispel Magic to work.

  • I would think that it would remove X layers of Wall from the target. IIRC, the Wall spell reflects X number of spells from the target, where X is the level of the Wall spell. Maybe a L6 Dispel Magic would leave a L8 Wall user with two layers left; kind of like in FF2. Then again, I could just be talking out of my ass.

  • btw when u were confusedon if it was gem missiles or nukes id say nukes or big missiles because they had a FLYING MNA FORTRESS :)

  • @HCBailly Ether medallion? oh and did you know the Link to The Past came before Zelda 1 in the timeline?

  • King Manmon is a play on the biblical demon Mammon which was a figurative representation of the acquisition of material wealth as the sole goal of mankind in the form of an addiction.

  • Methinks many greedy people live in that gold town. And JB's right, it would be hot there, since gold reflects heat quite well. IN fact, I pretty sure that place would uninhabitable, but this is a game so ANYTHING goes!

  • Gold melts softens at human body temp, thus the old stereotype of 'biting' gold to check purity.

  • It was not a torch, but Ether magic (ice) to reveal clear glass floors.

  • Lighting the ground? Reminds me of the Magus encounter.. we know that one well, don't we, HCBailly?

  • havent played this in years, i beat the game with my older bro

  • I love how it said "Lime Slime" on the screen 3 seconds before you went to look it up.

  • Dispel Magic is almost totally useless. When it actually affects the spell, it doesn't work half the time. You're better off either buffing your character or de-buffing the enemy.

  • nice Mario reference

  • I think Evil Gate has an instant death effect attached to it. Mostly useless since obviously bosses are immune and how many normal enemies are worth 8 mp to kill quickly?

  • Maybe that is what it is for. I'll be sure to test that out on my current file when I get shade. Once you get Luna's MP drain you can legitimize blowing 8 MP.

  • Dark Force is one of the coolest looking spells in the game, and definitely the best of the Shade spells. And in order to get Dispel Magic to work on Wall/Lucid Barrier, it needs to be at Level 5 or higher.

  • Casting a low level dispel twice can break walls and lucid barriers.

  • Shade looks like goatse!

  • Y'know i wouldn't think gold town is that rich. If theres that much gold to go around wouldn't it lose its value?

  • In the enhanced version of the game, the citizens talk about inflation. That lady in the shop that says she doesn't want to deal with you is because money is worthless.

  • I like how there is an elemental of darkness that isn't necessarily evil but just one of the elements. Shade gets portrayed as a wise elemental spirit on later games in the series as well.

  • Dispel is used to break wall and can probably be used to removed lucid barrier, defender, speed up, lunar boost, etc.

Excellent work of Lime Slime. Strategy against him was perfect.

  • lol @ the king looks like Burger King!

  • I guess the king's name, Manmon, is referring to Mammon, the false god of money. Doesn't explain the Mammon Machine from Chrono Trigger, though...

I remember that room in A Link to the Past, which is one of my favorite games ever. They had several rooms like that in the game, where you had to use Ether to make the path appear, or just light a lamp.

  • Actually the Mammon Machine reference in CT makes sense - The people of Zeal were using the machine to harness Lavos' energy for their own purposes. It's more a lust for power than money, but I think the comparison still works.

  • HCBailly,

What is the name of the song after you were talking with Shade, but still in the mana seed's room?

  • It's called "Eternal Recurrence". And it's awesome.

  • Yes, it is. It's probably my favorite track in the game. Too bad it doesn't appear enough.

  • I remember Shade's Dark Gate doing LESS damage than Dark Force, despite costing 4x as many MP. Anybody else find an actual use for it, or is it just a case of "what were the programmers thinking"?

  • Dark Gate seems worthless. Maybe it is better when Shade is lvl 8 or something.

  • Bah in link to the past you could just use ether and memorize the floor. Much faster.

This way is much "cheaper" than gold city.

  • Aw, I thought you'd make a Secret of Evermore reference at the end there. =P

  • Wow, you guys managed to dodge Lime Slime's physical attacks throughout the entire battle! You depleted all 5000 of its HP without the use of weapons, items, or anything, and not one of your characters took a single physical hit from it...now THAT was a masterful defeat of a boss. Excellent, EXCELLENT job!

  • Thanks for the comliment, though I believe you're referring to the Dread Slime with 5000 HP. The Lime Slime has less than 3000.

  • Actually they didn't dodge Lime Slime's attacks...it's only because they all levelled up that it looks like the didn't take any damage...plus HC did say that they all levelled up after the fight and that it wouldn't let them leave until it told them they levelled up.

  • They had Gold Isle armor before the dark palace. Character level really means very little in this game (HP/MP increase mostly). It is all about weapon/magic levels and armor. If one doesn't grind alot, they would buy Mandala's armor and would not need Gold Isle armor until just before the last Palace.

  • I understand what you mean there, but I was implying that once you reach the next level, your health and mana is restored to its not increased maximum. If you read speyeker's comment, he imply's that it was a flawless victory with no damage taken to any of the characters.

  • lol, I didn't realize your post was a reply to speyeker's post. Youtube messes up the comments on page one it seems and it drives me nuts sometimes. But nonetheless, they killed the bosses without using any magic or items.

  • hehe, no worries...it annoys me to high heavens when youtube messes up the comments placement

  • I find dispel useful for a boss fight (the first one) in the last palace of the game so I can drain its MP.

  • Yeah, Dispel gets rid of Wall, and it can actually be VERY useful during one upcoming boss battle...well, basically, if a boss uses Wall on itself and you want to get rid of it, cast Wall! If only it was this simple in Final Fantasy games...although, then again, the simplicity here kinda takes the fun out of it.

  • Er, cast Dispel, not wall. 'Scuse me.

  • HC remember the feregi rule of acquisiton #10 greed is eternal.

  • If I remember correctly, Lime Slime changes its elemental weakness frequently, but most of the time it seems to be weak to Salamando. This is just from my personal memory, so I could be wrong (like I was with Metal Mantis).

  • LOL at 8:10 and 10:15!!! Great job guys!!!

  • Mmmm... Cherry slime sounds like it would be really tasty.

  • Your brother is hilarious with the character movement! =D

  • You have to wonder why they gave two characters that you learn about at the same time such similar names. It wouldn't be a problem if there was half a game seperating them but yeah, it's pretty annoying.

  • There is a good answer for that but it'd be a spoiler. ^.~

  • I think that's part of the joke.
