I use to used sky map for droid x about 6 months ago and it was very smooth and precise. Wiped the phone and finally reinstalled 3 days ago. It seems very jittery and not as accurate because it doesnt pan very smooth...I know others have complained about this. did anyone figure out how to solve this problem?

Google Sky Map doesn't require an Internet connection to work. You can run it through GPS, any wifi-access points and/or even run it without a connection to ANY of the above. If you do this, you can use the application manually (you can still view the sky, but you have to scroll it) however you may need to enter in your location's coordinates OR enter your city/town.

@olteanubz I like the application, it's simple to use BUT I encountered a few problems with it. It's practicality is ruined by the fact the sky is shown to me in reverse. North is South, West is East and vice versa. It's not very helpful in this sense - even when I tried to run the application with an Internet connection, GPS connection and even without a connection at all (manual). I can't find a way to fix this issue, and it seems I'm not the only one! Phone isn't ruined, app is just strange.

Its ok but not for the serious sky observer. NEEDS to have a more extensive d/b. I have an Orion SkyQuest XT8 for deep space viewing (good intermediate scope) and need to rely on printed maps or my computer (red cellophane cover on the laptop to protect the eyes). Otherwise a good start.

Google SkyMap is great! Being an amateur astronomer and programmer, It inspired me to create a more detailed app called SkEye for Android. It even functions as a virtual DSC (like a finder scope). If you have a telescope, you probably want to try it out now.

@harshadrj Thanks, I had put skymap on a new ATT Aria that I had not deployed yet pending flashing with Cyanogen 7 to eliminate CarrierIQ. I did a bing for SKYEye and was surprised to see that Amazon had a number of interesting looking free "Apps". Living in the city, with light polution I can only see the brightest stars anymore. It has been ages since I looked up and saw the milkyway. I will be sure to give your SKYEye a run around the block this evening, thanks.
