The point isn't to have a kill per bullet or magazine of bullets, but to suppress the enemy with fire while your other squads perform flanking manuvers. This maximizes the kill ratio, which was amazing in 'Nam. We lost 58,000 men, and the NVA and VC over 2 million men. Do the math. Bullets are easier to replace than men.
Saw the rest of the scene. Pretty fucked up and hate inspiring. Human life is too precious to waste like this.
