I use the same exact rig, MFJ 9020, at work with an end fed long wire antenna run between two HVAC units on the roof. Straight key and no antenna tuner, make contacts to the East Coast regularly from Las Vegas, NV. Must be the great counterpoise, all the AC ducting in the building. Big boss is a ham too, so I won't get in too much trouble if the supervisor walks by in a middle of a QSO. I like the built in speaker in the MFJ 90XX series, don't like to wear headphones.
@Umbra33 Yup, the 9020 is a GREAT rig, mine had the built in keyer and narrow filter - that said: I sold it in order to buy a Hendricks PFR3 40/30/20 xcvr. The 90XX series rigs have super RX, but lack RIT capability for splits - I also liked having the 2 other bands and the ant tuner/swr indicator in one unit. Although I am happy with the PFR3, the tuning is like having a CW filter on ALL the time. I prefer to tune wide and narrow in with a switchable filter. See you on the air! -72 de k7hv
Thanks! I have lots of fun operating from the beach. next to the campfire. Next year, I might try to build a hanging 2 element 20 meter quad... stay tuned! 73!

Where on the WA coast? I've hiked around there lots. Wow, looks like a GREAT setup. I hope you got some nice QSOs.
Contesting, that's just as good as walking.
