I agree completely with you. Unless you are exempted from paying income tax and serving in the military, you should have the right to drink. Where I live, it is 18. Unfortunately, what American legislators forget is that a lot of young people spend more time in the bar before they can legally be in the bar than they do after they can legally be in the bar. There is no challenge and less fun to be in a bar when it is legal.

Blame our Federal Government for passing the uniform drinking age law back in 1984 for this one. It sort of sucks all the way around, but at least makes the US law uniform. It appears nobody is really trying to change the law either. Europe and Austrailia seem to be more lax - perhaps move there?
I snuck into a bar once, and when I went to rock shows I'd sneak drinks when the tender wasn't looking. You don't need to go to a bar to have a good time. The wait is worth it. Don't worry about growing up so fast, and remember to love the last of your teen years!

I never had to worry about that, for two reasons: 1. When I was your age, the legal age was 18, and 2., I never had a desire to drink alcohol. I consider the imbibing of low grade poison for recreation to be just dumb. Actually... technically you can't donate blood... It is still a rule in America that if you are man who has sex with men (MSM) you are not allowed to donate blood. It's total bullshit, I still do regardless. They even reviewed the rules last year, and voted not to change it...
That's why Belgium rules. We can legally drink at 16, we just can't get our driving license until we're 18.
