  • I miss those thinner packs of the BEST competitors, rather than every Tom, D/ck and Harry; bring it, or get out of the way. These days, I hate NAStyCAR. But back then? It WAS awesome.

  • nascar at its very best.. how bout those fords???

  • Gotta love those old H-Pipe cars roaring down those straightaways. This is back when Talladega was a 500 mile race, and not a 500 mile parade with a big crash like it is today.

  • I have never seen the end of this race...my video copy ends when CBS leaves the coverage for a while and it does not return. Thanks for posting.

  • Them small blocks running flat-out over 200 mph unrestricted STILL gives me cold chills and a lump in my throat! DANG!!

  • Ahhhhh...So Bill should've had 12 wins that season! Manufacture defect!

    B.S. Bill you won!!!

  • Cale got his last win later this year at Charlotte.

  • Cale's last win

  • @carguysn

Actually, it was his next-to-last win. His last win as a driver came at Charlotte that October. Amazingly enough, this was Yarborough's only win in this particular race, though he won the Winston 500 twice. David Pearson also never won this race, despite winning the spring race thtree consecutive times. The Talladega 500 was the race for upsets, as Richard Brickhouse, James Hylton, Richard Brooks, Lennie Pond, Ron Bouchard, and more recently, Brian Vickers scored wins in this race.

Also, the legendary A.J. Foyt scored his final top five finish in NASCAR with his fifth-place finish. Foyt finished one lap behind.
