@duffmanjon Germany had an incredibly weak squad during 1999 to 2004. Look at their achievements at the Euro 2000 and 2004. We even beat them 2-0 and 3-0 in 1999 and they lost games to Portugal's B-side 3-0 at the Euro, to England 5-1 (2001), France 3-0 (2003), Romania (5-1) and so forth. They only got that far in 2002 because they didn't have to play any top teams until the final. They even got lucky against us with that handball in the quarterfinal.

@Rrroooaaarrrr Yea, they didn't really have that many good players at that time. German clubs invested very heavily in players from other countries and didn't bring up any players themselves. As a consequence their national squad was too old and didn't have enough quality players. It was a lost time for them, but they were definitely not good. They only ended up in the final in '02 because of Kahn and the weak opponents they had to play. Their performances at Euros were disastrous at that time.
