  • Stef Burn is a great guitarrist...but near Steve and Jo, sorry there's no story..

  • mitico stef !!!!

  • I just love it when people try to turn music into a pissing contest. Obviously the guys on the stage aren't preoccupied with such juvenile concerns. Of course, these men are all real musicians.

  • The closed mindedness of people replying here is pathetic. Fripp is obviously a different style and if his style appeals more to you than the others, great. That doesn't mean the others aren't great in their own way, though. Diversity is a good thing.

  • @deadenddude I agree 100%

  • Amazing!! I was there, great concert and awesome jam!! :D

  • woouuu, i have to say that the only original G3 is Satch, Vai and EJ, no one else do the things equal. Many said that malmsteen and petrucci, but the sound have never been the same since the original 1997.

  • Goes to show, the guy holding the camera has no clue.

The most amazing solo by Fripp at the beginning, and the camera showing somebody else.

  • lol i was there...

  • I don't know why everyone thinks Joe Satriani and Steve Vai are such gods. Sure they can play fast, but those types are a dime a dozen. Fripp, on the other hand, is a true master and creative genius on the guitar. He must be cringing as he hears the cheese coming out of Vai and Satriani's guitars.

  • @timi0000 I doubt that Fripp was cringing. In fact, he loves these guys. I am not a huge fan of the Satch/Vai wankathon style, but both of them do have some stuff that is genuinely brilliant. On his "Robert Fripp Unplugged" spoken-word CD set, Fripp talks about how the G3 tours were his all-time favorites, and mentions how his musical ability pales in comparison to Satriani, Vai, and Kenny Wayne Sheppard(?) His online diary at dgmlive.com is interesting and entertaining.

  • @vealcutlet Well said! Indeed true. :-)

  • This was G3 in Rome 2004. I was asked by Joe, to join them as a guest on the last encore. It was a joy for me. This video was given to me by a fan in Rome at one of my shows. Thanks again :-) Unfortunately, Robert is only at the beginning of this clip, and you can hear his genius only for a short time. He is amazing!! I was honored to meet him and play with him that night as well as the greats Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, my friend and great drummer Jeff Campitelli and Matt Bissonette! Cheers, Stef

  • @MrBurns2222 Hi Stef...i am your best fan...i am italian...

  • is this G3?

  • Unfortunatly because of the way this is shot we'll only be able to imagine the look of disgust on Fripp's face during all that guitar wankery.

  • @xeractus As if Fripp would be there if he was disgusted by "guitar wankery". Get real, idiot.

  • read fripp, hear fripp, no see fripp...

    i hate fripp, without fripp...

  • Grandissimo Stef! Come sempre, è un piacere vederti suonare.

  • Joe has hair!

  • This is some of the most self-indulgent aural pollution I've ever heard.

  • stef burns è il numero 1!

  • WOW...0.0

  • let's be real here, whose as nice as fripp? nobody.

  • @boibad12 I couldn't agree more. And what a fantastic player. I was humbled to meet him.

  • @MrBurns2222 haha i meant nice as in talented, not personality, but i honestly wuoldnt know. i never met em. only 15 :(. how did you meet him?

  • @boibad12 I'm Stef, I played with him that night. Robert is so amazing and also as a person.

  • @MrBurns2222 ooooh wow i didn't even notice your name haha. i can't seem to find any other videos of robert fripp on G3, d you know if there are any?

  • @boibad12 I saw a couple other G3 vids with Fripp but there are some really great Fripp alone vids!

  • @MrBurns2222 yeah i love the one from 1979 i believe when he was demonstrating frippertronics

  • @MrBurns2222 You really are Burns?

  • @strashiLOL Yes.

  • wtf is with the camera doin focusin all on steve vai while fripp is rippin it :(

  • apart from fripp, it sounds like a chainsaw in chicken factory

  • @ken10763 But I like chainsaws too! And chicken. Grilled!

  • Is Robert Fripp human? I don't think so...

  • So, Robert Fripp hides from the people that buys his music? Bad business!

  • @FoxtronInk well..if Robert Fripp was meant to do music for businnes like other artists...that wont be Rober Fripp any longer! he may look as a cold sensitiveless old man..but his stiffy "detachedness" helped him in gettin 10000 lightyears over those jerky shredders...whose are ,not less, obviously great at their own businness..

  • @awfulguitarplucker Got It Clear. Thanks

  • steeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeffffffff <3

  • to Dirt8889 Fripp's solo is at the very beginning of the video, the best solo and unfortunately the shortest. If you were used to Fripp's music you would recognise his style, impeccable, profound and original. Compared to Fripp, the others are just shallow neophytes with some technical skills.

  • well I am very used to his music actually. It just happened so fast that I really didn't have time to hear it well enough. What happened was I got sick of listening to this boring song and turned it before they thanked Fripp at the end.

  • I understand why you turned before the end. When I realised that the only Fripp's solo is at the beginning I went back and played few times just his solo. As I said the others are skilled but not original.

  • @amusecofilo well said

  • @ken10763

    thanks

  • @amusecofilo

You just did the best Fripp's definition I've ever heard! I totaly agree!

  • @heliobluesrock

I'm glad to see many people that share the same view

  • @amusecofilo agree, all these pedal pushers like satriani, hahah, they are just arpeggio players, nothing more, they can no be compared with Fripp, I swas a lot more guyes from my street who play no worse than this satriany or watever))

  • pendejo graba bien el puto concierto!!!

  • I guess Fripp just got up and bailed after he realized the sort of shitty jams expected of him at this thing.

  • I didn't even see or hear Fripp. Were was he???

  • Judging by the way Vai looks over his right shoulder during Fripp's otherworldly solo at the very beginning of the vid, I'd say Robert was somewhere at the leftmost corner of the scene.

  • @Dirt8889 Watch to the end of the video.. They say "Robert Fripp on electric guitar" and the camera turns to show Fripp standing far away from EVERYONE else.. in the very corner. I can't say I'm surprised.

  • This music by Neil Young is godawful. Worst crap he ever made. Shame on these airheads for doing it.

  • IO C'ERO!

  • grandeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

  • Fripp played music, the others masturbated.

  • The Fripp stuff at the beginning is godly. How come he was shut out for the rest of the number?

  • my god fripp is sooooo un-social. didnt even go to bow with them, what gives?

  • It's cos he's a god and they're talentless fretwankers

  • well yes, i realise this. well actually, i would give vai and satch a bit more credit than that. but still, it just seems a bit rude of fripp

  • I concur though I wouldn't go so far as to describe the "triple entente' of Burns/Satriani/Vai as talentless. I think one of the key differences is that Burns/Satriani/Vai seem stuck in a rut of all-too-familiar blues based riffage (which gets dull pretty very quickly) whereas Fripp's harmonic allegiance tends toward anything else but blues! I find Fripp's guitar playing far more interesting for its uncompromising individuality.

Besides, Burns/Satriani/Vai could have never written 'Fracture'

  • For a minute I thought you were arguing against me, and I was confused as to why I agreed with everything you said. Fracture is indeed incredible.

  • Agreed, the only interesting part in this video is the beggining.

  • He has never stood up to to play live, why should this be any exception?

Davvero deprimente!!

  • Robert Frip is better than these idiots

  • yer its a shame he didnt do more than his small improv at the start, i wanted to hear more :(

  • ahahah steve vai a stef burns je spiccia casa..

  • Cioè? :)

  • I wonder if these guys bow before Robert Fripp as he enters the room and ask him for permission to solo in his presence... just wondering... did anybody see more videos of these shows? did he play the most insane stuff sitting on a stool without moving, as with King Crimson?

  • if you pause at exactly 3:35 you can see the heineken tent hahaha

  • Robert Fripp is the best

  • I have been a Satch and Vai fan all my life, but this Stef Burns guy stood out with his strat tone, touch, and feel. Like some sort of Van Beck. Fripp was great too.

  • Stef Burns really is an amazing player... here his talent is just wasted, and he seems out of his element a bit... he usually gets great tone, and a real sensitive touch. I've seen him turn down his guitar during an amazing outro, doing blues and jazz licks, turning down so much, the crowd completely silent, you hear the actual strings in the room, total feeling... wish I had a clip of that.

I love all these guys, I like solos, but I still agree: Fripp is in a different league.

  • Who plays the first solo?

It sounds like Fripp, but I can't tell, because the camera's too busy focusing on steve Vai who isn't fucking doing anything in that time span

  • Yes, the first solo is played by Fripp.

  • there is no Robert Fripp in this video. Not only I haven't seen him, but couldn't hear him also...

  • If he is actually there, I think he plays from the start till about 0:28.

Otherwise, I can't hear him at all.

  • jump to about 7:25

  • he surely plays till 0:28....it's his sound, have you ever heard his soundscapes?

  • Yeah, it's him. His soundscapes are nice but I prefer oldschool frippertronics.

  • Robert Fripp plays the first solo (from 0:00 till 0:27).

  • Stef is Great! Nice Job. Wish I could have seen this live - this one is close..... Good Job man! Kevin

  • Vai, Satriani, Burns are all really fine players.... however...they are all blues based and sound quite alike. Fripp has a unique voice. He is also a speed demon, on those occasions the music eequires it, rather than most of the time, or for its own sake.

  • hahaha, u a funny guy

  • Fripp a nice voice? I doubt he ever even tried singing [well except on a barber shop bonus track on Three of a Perfect pair]. he's the best guitarist ever but definetely not cut for the G3... I was there and was rather disappointed by fripp doing the "ambient stuff", but the solo he did on Red kicked ass

  • By "voice", I was not referring to singing (Fripp isn't a singer!)... but his unique musical 'voice'. I think the idiom was lost in translation!

  • whares robert? wtf>!>!

  • I agree with matmoose! Robert Fripp; Krimson 4 ever

  • Look Stef Burns face at 1:47!!! LOL!

  • "Steve Vai" tomar no cú!

  • that was awesome!

  • Steve Vai and Joe Satriani the best

  • Stef the best

  • Fripp's incredible. he just sits in the back, destroying all the others. he should have beeen in the video, instead of the posers at the front.

  • i know what you mean... I like vai's professionalism, but fripp is just unstoppable

  • I agree, but I don't really think Steve Vai is a poser, Joe Satriani isn't either, but the other guy is, though.

  • Posing is an integral part of the trade, guys, especially for axemen. You have an axe hanging on your neck — that's it, you are posing. Some add grimaces, some rock their torsos, etc.. Robert Fripp, IMO, poses by staying away from the spotlight.

  • i was there in rome...seriously man...that was impressive!

  • Robert Fripp ?

  • the best g3 was that in denver with steve vai joe satriani and yngwie malmsteen!!

  • G3 was a great concept back in......'96. lol

Seriously, these guys need to give it a rest. *quickly ventures off to find Fripp videos*

  • Boring. Except Fripp's part in the beginning. I wish there was more of him in the video.

  • vai sounds like garbage, the guy with the strat owns them both

  • im glad you say that. i only came to this page because im a big king crimson fan and i agree a lot. robert fripp is an artist. those other 2 guys are just normal guys who have spent a lot of time on the guitar

  • i found robert fripp's playing the most interesting

  • why does the name say 'stef burns'?

lol my girlfriend is called Steph Byrnes :p, she's amazing:).

    Satriani probs played best there.

  • no best its an art playing what u feel pleases you.

  • i know there some of the best guitarist but it would have been so much easier for them if they just went up and wiped there dicks out.

  • satriani, vai , etc. are very very good guitar players but i think that their manner to play is very raw whithout sweetness that seems exercises of guitar in contrast to the great robert frepp who plays simple and pleasant melodies ,he finds to delight and place the ear and he doesn´t find to be conceited with who does.

i know that that is the real purpose of an artist.

  • yeah but have you seen his pedalboard?! haha i like the way these guys are creative with sounds without always needing to use loads of different effects

  • satch rulz!

  • Bob at 7:28

  • they all suck balls next to fripp. plus, satch looks like vin diesel.

  • +1, Fripp's the best.

  • ur damn right

  • Just to get this thing clear once more: the clip starts with Fripp's playing, but since he's always sitting in shadow, I guess there was no point in trying to get him on camera.

  • nah i just think that the cameraman likes vai too much...

  • Robert Fripp Casper ??

  • satch fucked shit up in this one

  • Robert Fripp in disguise ???

  • wait where was fripp in all this?

  • Hmm man, it's his very playing this clip started with :) But Fripp's always sitting in shadow, so I guess there was no point in trying to get him on camera.

  • well..him imagen is not from the camara but your sound YES..

  • What the fuck am I supposed to be watching? Robert Fripp's glasses have fell off and his nose and hair have exploded over his face!Who's he? Where's Robert? Why am I always sleepy? etc...

  • hahahaa im sleepy to xD

  • I'd hide like Fripp too. Those guys are basically just doing a three way circle jerk.

  • listen ass munchie, the fans pay to see their favorite guitar hero's perform at their very best so of course they will entertain the crowd with what they paid to see. People with stupid jealous comments like yours is always annoying to read. Now if you were better than them (which I doubt) then you have all the right to make such a comment. But I dont see you on stage at G3 so...

  • brian may?mai sentito?

  • ma dai, Brian May? Poi i Queen erano soprattutto Mercury, non May.

May ( penso pure tu, no?).

  • L'hai mai sentita Good Company dei Quen?

  • yes !! Echo Lake, Venus over Venice, Peppino & Stef, great music... ciao!

  • Fripp has more talent and is at a higher musical level than the 3 amigo's.

  • COMBINED that is =)

  • you're damn right

  • wank-fest...

  • I suffered through this to see Fripp only to find out at the end that he was parking the car and then stashed away into a closet.

I love Vai, but having Fripp on the stage with them is like putting Plato among cavemen.

  • Well, Fripp doesn't do gigs to be Seen, he does them to be Heard, or (even better) to be Listened to! This is nothing new, he's been avoiding the spotlight for 40 years now, but he still enjoys tours like this (he says).

  • Unlistenable. You can be a fast typewriter but that doesn't mean you play music.

  • circle jerk

  • Alright fellas, everyone gets a kleenex and some Jergens for the next 'solo'-only this time you should all go in a stall so it doesn't get in everyones ears. Seriously, people pay to see this on stage?...for how long? I was distracted at :10

  • Stef is really powerfull-

Perhaps the best performance is his one

  • I'm sure I somehow overlooked him, but where is Fripp at?
