I've been looking for this particular resonant generator ever since I read about it a few years back in a Stirling book. I had no idea someone had actually modeled it -- were you actually able to find drawings of the original, or did you work from general descriptions? Of course you're using a different fuel! How large is your model -- can you give some more detailed dimensions. Thanks! great work.....
Sorry to double post, but this is really interesting -- is that a speaker magnet on top? And are you using a voice coil for the windings of the linear alternator? Or did you wind your own?
Have you donse an estimate of input heat vs output power? Are you getting 10% conversion?
Thanks for the reply..I'm looking for a suitable converter for conetrated sunlight.. could be 600 watts to 20 kw I don't quite understand this design, but for a long time I expected there to be a membrane engin of sorts. Isn''t it ok as long as enough energy gets dissipated by the vibrations (which are then dampend by the coil)?
Hi Rockinghorseshart, No I have no interest in making a larger version as I am a model engineer and therefor like to make things in the miniature, yes the diaphragm material was expensive and hard to come by. Thanks for showing an interest. Barumman
Hi barumman, never heard of this Stirling cycle motor until now. Like the idea of building out of household stuff. Have you ever thought of building a slightly larger one using similar materials but with a gassifier instead of the gas supply(not sure how different the calorific values would be though)?
How much heat can you attribute to the movement of the device(I read that these generators were never intended to be the most efficient)?
That's very impressive! I can't quite work out the configuration you are using on the stirling side. I would be grateful if you could give a brief description. I have been looking at linear engines for a few months and have built a couple of small prototypes. Your engine is of great interest to me.
can you guess the frequency ? It sounds like about 1700hz.. ?

Cyril, wouldn't you cancel the weight penalty by turning it upside-down?

Hi,
displacer is controllad by magnet? Does the magnet move displacer?

What can you do with 1 watts?

Not much! :)

So even here you get 1 Watts out of 1 cc. Thats interesting. Same as your Rhombic drive.. Nice vid.

Very interesting. Where did you get the designs? Wikipedia doesn't have schematics, are any posted online? cheer

Information on this type of engine is hard to come by, It is built to my own design
I was very fortunate to meet Mr Cooke-Yarborough many years ago and was able to glean some information on its workings.

I was looking for this. Could this be scaled up to 1-4 kw?

I dont think so, If you increase the size
the components would get heavier which in turn would reduce the working frequency, Speed = power

would you get more power if this was in a vaccum did you try that
svesolar 3 years ago
It would not work at all with a vacuum,
no gas no expansion, no power.

great looking work, do you think i could get a copy of those scans for this as well, once again great job.

nice job. but... i see well, u dont use iron core in the magnet ring? for a good effiency it is needed.

Was the most expensive part the copper diaphragm?
