  • @SizzleBethizzle you hold it out not closer in. You hold it closer to your knees when you play clarinet. I know because I have been playing clarinet for almost two years so... And I have seen people play oboe and they hold it more away from their bodies!! HOW BOUT THEM APPLES?!?!

  • bring your oboe down to your knees more it will make your tone and pitch better and sit up straight!!!!!!

  • I play Oboe and I have been playing for about a year or so, and I am the only in my whole band. And yes, you do need to work on your embouchure a little. But other than that its great! Oh yeah and one more thing, don't be afraid to breath!

  • what book is that? book one two or 3? cuz i play oboe too, im 11 (6th grade) and just started 4 months ago and i make a really good sound.

  • that is not a concert

  • @MegaPeacegirl11 who said it was?

  • @MegaPeacegirl11 she said it was in the title!

  • I play oboe and I think your kinda on the flat side but some times on the sharp side I had the same problem on my first year of oboe, also you should practice expanding scale Bb C Bb D Bb Eb Bb F Bb G Bb A Bb Then high Bb and hold the notes as bird eye or fermata. it will really help you

  • I play the obo eand yes it challenging but you should raise you rstand hifger or u will get into the habit of looking down but that was really great because of how hard and challinging it really is.

  • I don't play Obeo. I play flute!! But i do love how you play, how you position and how you are always focused on the music. Kept being that way.. Do your best and kept trying!!

  • that's not a kitchen?

  • omg my band oboe's sound like dieing ducks

  • How old are you?

  • I'm an oboist as well and this would be my 6th year playing oboe. I wanna share a few tips for any beginners who read this: If you find that your mouth is getting sore during a performance, try your best to keep playing until you reach a rest. When you hit the rest, take the reed out of your mouth completely. Remember, a rest is a time to "rest" so why keep the reed in your mouth because that requires energy from the mouth, get it? Also, to prevent soreness, practice more to build up the muscle

  • thats the essential elements book i had last year(:

  • I just started playing the oboe. And my mom wants me to play at a party. Do you have any link to songs I could play?

  • Hey! I'm an oboe player 2!!!! Ur doing awesome:D:D I'm in sixth grade and I'm the ONLY one!!! Great job(:

  • @2midge the oboe and basoon offer the highest odds of a scholarship since not to many ppl can play. im a 7th grade oboe

  • Hi! I'm a sophomore in high school and I play the oboe(:

Anyway, I was just wondering if you were playing your "F" with forked fingering? If you are, I would just like to suggest using your index and middle fingers and then your ring finger on the sliver key. It is much easier and works out once you move on to harder music. By the way, you're really good for a beginner! Good job! :D

  • Youu could tell ur mouth was sore but you sound very good try working on you tone its a bit edgy but other than that Terrific!

  • i just started the oboe today and i have been playing the flute for over 5 years. its very hard for me right now

  • Slow down a bit it's not a race lol

  • i hope i learn how to do that!!!!!!

  • u need to practice more longtones. it will better develope your tone and sound quality. and it will help build your embechure. i could tell your mouth was sore at the end.

  • @crazyperson141 I'm older than her and longtones helped make the back of your mouth wide

  • ........

  • I use the same lesson book. Can u give me the numbers of the song?

  • I've been doing oboe since third grade I'm in sixth now and your better than me

  • I play the oboe im 12 and the first 2 songs are in my lesson book! Im in 7th grade! Your really good for that age!

  • Wow that is amazing

  • Awsome video, but i might say that you do have some counting errors. Otherwise, you really good. Infact, in am going to switch to an oboe. I play the flute right now, for a whole year, but i am very interested in the sound of the oboe. So now i will. start it in about a month or so. Oh and person who thought she is rich, lots of people have swimming pools. And infact, im not liening, but i have a theatre in my house, and no kidding.

  • I'm 14 and I play clarinet, though what led me to listen to this video is my curiosity of the oboe. We don't have any oboe players in my band I was thinking about asking my band director if I could try to play. you, for only playing for about 9 months, sound excellent. Though, I wouldn't know since I don't play or know anything about the oboe. Yet. Good job(=

  • @SierraDotYAY i am a clarinetist to i think that what there called any way but i am still new and i have so much extra cirricular activities that i rarely get time to practice i am 11 bye the way

  • Good Job. :)

  • Wow you sound really good, only 9 months? Keep it up you're gonna be amazing.

  • i play oboe too but yo are really good and have a nice tone !!! OBOES RULE

  • I've played oboe for four years and the piano for about eight (maybe more) and you're probably a lot better now than you were, considering this was two years ago. think about how much you improve over the years. its amazing the progress that one can make on the oboe. keep playing oboe for the rest of your life!

  • Coolio...im using the exact some book as you....nice...

  • Great Job!!

  • u seriously have talent for a solo.

  • you are really good! GOOD JOB!

  • awesome

  • :) We use the same book. xD

Or...did. That's mine from last year. I have the teal one now, but we don't use it other than scales. :D

Good work, and keep it up.

  • excellent embouchure on a very difficult instrument! just need to work on keeping your timing, which is hard to get the hang of when you don't have a conductor or a band playing with you.

I hope that you are still playing, there's some good potential there. Enjoy your music!

  • that was good for your age and only being playing for 9 months at the time!! i play the oboe and have been for about 2 years keep it up it an get frustrating but stick with it!! good job!!

  • she sets the oboe on her knee when she plays...

  • its not called alone concert its called solo

  • I've been playing for a long time and I have been in multiple orchestras and symphonies. I love it! You are really good for your age! Keep practicing :) And something that might help is soaking your reed for about 10 mins before you play. Get an old pill bottle and fill it up till the water is covering the thread. That way you can toss the water when your done and carry it in your case! Works like a charm. Good job and good luck sweety!

  • @breepotter

Uh..no, do not soak a reed for 10 minutes like that! At most, dip the reed in the water once, then take it out without shaking the water off and put it back in your case for a few minutes until you need it. Never leave a reed sitting in water. It will oversoak and the opening will become huge and unmanageable. The only time I would leave a reed sitting in water is if it is SUPER old and closed down. Reeds like that will benefit from getting waterlogged.

  • I soo agree only once not 10 minutes!!

  • @mrsstrawberrypie

thank you, butno im not rich lol that was at my aunt's house. she was doing a 4th of july bbq thing.

  • You chose a very hard instrument :) keep working on it and don't give up, oboe requires a lot of study not only for the technical and expressive part but also to get a good sound.

  • I've been playing for a bit now, and it's nice to see other youth interested in the oboe.

  • haha essential elements... we have to do those books! we do lots of other songs too... good job tho!

  • @kas1262 ya same here my school uses them and pretty much every instement i play was thanks to that book loli still have all of them to

  • OMG!!! Im trying 2 learn the first song on my clarinet!!!! Im almost there!!! Anyway keep up the good work!!!!! UR GREAT!!!

  • I played clarinet for 3 1/2 years as 1st chair and still play in marching band. I just recently switched to oboe about a week ago. Lol I'm progressing well. (so says everyone) it's so frustrating. I also play alto and tenor sax.

  • I mean look at that pool!!

  • Damn you must be rich!

  • tongue lighter

    make it flow

    work on rythym

hold the oboe at more of a 45 degree angle

  • oh no..i never play this oboe...but i'm playing clarinet...and i miss my clarinet...huhhhh...

hey girl..keep up the good work~~

  • im trying to learn oboe very hard instrument. my parents dont like me playing in the house.. lol

  • Beautiful!

I lala love how you play :)

  • Is that the essential elements book 2? xP

    I have book 1,

but that looks like books 2.

  • awesome i just started playing oboe and im awfull

  • awsome oboe playing i play the oboe ive been doin for about 2 or 3 weeks

  • , need more practice,

  • shes good!

  • Im aloud ot have an opinion. No one asked you.

  • Great job! I play the oboe too.... Oboists rule! You are doing great for 9 months!

  • Do you play the clarinet??? I play the clarinet and I'm thinking of playing the oboe.

  • O i played clairinet last semester!!! and now i play oboe!!! it's not that bad of a transition but ALL fingerings are different and it just feels weird and it is CRAZY HARD to make a good sound on. If you play oboe then you should think about buying reeds online or buying them from your tutor (if you get one. haha i just buy my reeds online :P )

  • seems tho that maybe the reed was too hard(?)

  • @emmahappy1234 yeah it not real great sound if it too hard

  • Oh, cool! I learned out of that series of books, too! =) - K

  • ohh yea i play oboe too for 3 yrs and the chromatic scale.. well all of them really help!!

  • 5 years ive been playing just one suggestion use more tongue its hard at the beginning i know Work on your Chromatic scale that will help you a lot!

  • Bravo, siga em frente seu estudo, você tem talento.

  • coolio ur really good for 9 months...i've played for about 16 months....and i don't sound like a fog horn anymore yaay =) awesome yankee doodle btw!!

  • Youre pretty good for nine months.

    Two things

1)Try to sound sweeter, not like a foghorn...nothing personal, I sounded like one too when I started

2)Your tounge started to get ahead of your fingers

  • keep practicing, u sound better than I did when I first started

  • keep on practicing! :)

  • please

what is my oboe model ?il has 4 metal keys for the left little finger...( 5 on most oboes fotos). 3 keys for the right little finger..right hands rings looks like clarinet- left keys look like oboe.. it has a octave key -can i play a 3rd space C with a flute fingering?

    i play flute-sax- clarinet

    i am mixing fingerings...

    thank you ;)

  • Well done, tht is very good, I Play the Double Bass and the Flute. and i cnt decide whether to learn the Oboe or the Bassoon.

  • Great songs

    Is that 3rd grade?

Im seventh grade but still got a shit school oboe cause they cost so much

  • wow i loved it im not that good yet

  • wat was the 2nd thing you played?

  • that was good :) definitly great for 9 months, i know those songs and i still mess them up on my flute after like 8 years haha good job

  • that is SUPER DOOPER good. haha super doopes i sound like a freak!

  • are in the 2nd book?

  • thats really good for only playing 9 months!

only thing, dont use forked F, use the little key right below the E key,

i hate when the band books teach kids forked F, it sounds nasty

  • you are sooo good!

i can tell you're gonna be a great oboist someday!

how old are you, by the by.

i love the sound of the oboe, although it's too high for me.

i play the bass clarinet, which, as you might know, is an extremely low woodwind.

i'm actually part of the bass line in my band.

    it's so weird, but cool!

    anyways, great job!

  • wow you are really good!!! espically for only playing 9 months! I've played for five years now, and your gonna be really good if you keep up practicing!

  • wat do u play

  • wow you are really good!i have a friend who plays the oboe, for like, a year now, and you are waaaay better than her! wow..keep it up!!
