This is incredible. At only one and a half minute this speech and this man completely captivated me. I have heard audio speeches of Lloyd George in the past, but never seen him speak on film; the effect of WATCHING him is very different; i can totally understand why he is considered one of the greatest orators in history.
@BritishTrekkie952 Yeah, Churchill wasn't very good at public speaking until he met Lloyd George. During the people's budget speaking tour in 1910, Churchill would listen to Lloyd George unleash his devastating energies of oratory and it inspired him.
I did not include Chamberlain because his handling of Hitler and appeasement, and even the declaration of war showed him as out of his depth. For nearly ten months after war was declared nothng was done (Chamberlain did not know what to do - his only smart move was to bring Churchill back into the cabinet. By April 1940 Hitler launched his blitzkreig war that conquered most of Europe. Chamberlain was kicked our of office (officially he resigned) after the failure of Englnd to save Norway.
@LePrince1890 Chamberlain was still a great man. He made mistakes, but his appeasement of Hitler was in fact the popular move at the time. Nobody wanted a war as the memories of World War One were still fresh.
@UsagiDreamsReturns I have a bit of pity and respect for Chamberlain. If the late 1930s had been prosperous and quiet he wanted to reform the education system in Britain, and probably could have. His decision to push for "peace at any price" was not totally dismissable (Churchill would later say that Chamberlain's failure actually was a plus for the Allies by showing they really wanted to maintain the peace, unlike Hitler.
He is with Asquith, Baldwin, Churchill, Atlee, MacMillan, Wilson, and Thatcher (of the Premiers between 1903 to the early 1990s, in the group of most important Prime Ministers. Of the great ones, he'd rank with Churchill, Thatcher, Asquith, Atlee, and Baldwin in that group.
@LePrince1890 How is Chamberlain not in your group of most important primeministers??? he was the one that did start ww2 when only a few people wanted to got to war for poland!
Absoloutely legendary man, the only reason he isn't as widely remembered as Churchill is because Churchill was part of the establishment whereas Lloyd George was a middle class man.
@redfiredragonslayer Not really, his father was a school teacher and had a decent income. At that point in time, working class meant poverty, and ill education. Lloyd George was well educated and had a fair income. Also, Lloyd George was able to enter a career in law and politics, which was an almost definite no-no for working class citizens at that point.
When my brain visualizes an Englishman, he looks like a young David Lloyd George. Which is odd since he's Welsh (okay, not THAT odd)
Undoubtedly the most stereotypical-looking Brit of all time.

He actually reminded me of Churchill while I was watching this. Maybe Winston took some inspiration from one of the best Welshmen that ever lived...

Lloyd George is the greatest prime minster of all time, in fact he is the greatest leader of any country in the world in history. A legend.

@TheLiberalKnight I agree. David Lloyd George makes — particularly those of us of Welsh extraction — proud.

@LongliveSnak2e 1. Lloyd George withdrew his support from Hitler before WW2 started
2. He was not an antisemite
3. He did not lose the UK millions, that was Woodrow Wilson (who was a cunt)
