I'd be too embarrassed to go gomi hunting. But that stuff looked flash you could make some pocket money ebaying that sort of stuff. Or save everything and then your sorted for family birthdays back home.
My fiance who is japanese gives me so much grief about buying stuff second hand off ebay. I can't imagine what she would say about me going gomi hunting. Great Video.
No chance of finding any good gomi here in the UK, although I openly admit shopping in charity shops and buying some good condition used items off of ebay.
Had a boss who had spent time in Japan when in the Navy. It appeared that the Japanese considered NEW better than OLD, so he found all kinds of antique furniture and kept it. Now it's worth a ton of money.
Yep... I now live in an old building and the rent is really cheap. Why? It is OLD. The newest and tallest building in the city in only a 10 minute walk away. Rent in there is definitely out of reach.
I'm moving to Japan just to garbage pick. You got cool stuff! I don't have anything anymore. But when I was single, I found an awesome couch with recliners in both ends sitting by the road, in front of someone's house. I had one of the guys at my office put it in their truck and take it to my apartment for me =)
Actually, I found my living room couch that way. No joke, someone was ready to throw out a perfectly good couch, no holes or anything like that, in the garbage. So of course I snatched that up quick.
Today I found in the middle of an avenue a truck wheel!!! I couldn´t record it because I haven´t got a camera :( but I was atonished who throw out a wheel!!!
you can totally eat stuff from the trash...i got the chair i'm sitting in AND the spaghetti that was on it (uncooked) right outside the korean trader joe's*
What I find curious is that many Japanese people throw these things out to keep their small living space more spacious and "peaceful". And Westerners go about their habbit of collecting things.
Not that either lifestyle is bad, it's just that it's an interesting behavior.
Where do you find space to keep all tha stuff? Make money from it: sell it on Ebay. I am sure you can get decent offers. I will bid on the hat and on Elmo.
lol the little blue guys name is "Stitch". Its from the cartoon Lilo and Stitch. His friend (the girl) is Lilo (pronounces lee-low) Just thought I'd throw that out there.. ^_^
You and others have sent me vids yesterday and today and You Tube is giving me a problem viewing them. The vids have been freezing up, dam YT lol but I just found out I wasn't the only one. Anyway this vid worked just fine. So if you don't get a reply from me that's why.
I've found some DELICIOUS snacks! I mean, once I saw a happy meal, almost in mint condition... Some of the potatoes were a bit green and there was a black spot on the bread of the sandwitch but after I took those off, mhh mmh mmmh.. DELISH!
by the way, no, I never ate anything from the trash.
...Panda Blood...? NO!!! Nice finds, do your wash your finds after you picked them up? I know japan is very clean/health concious (sp? lazy) but still...garbage is garbage.
rusty ad is gut bustingingly funny! Your garbage stuff is much more supreme than mine! The helmet is for a monkey, not a child. Monkeys highly known to enjoy headwear, whilst in Japan!! LOL
have you heard of freeganism? fancy name for dumpster diving perhaps, but the amount of perfectly edible food and other things thrown out by shops and businesses is obscene.
Wow! If I move to Japan, I could probably make a living in the dumpster! ...I mean... by retrieving things from the dumpster! I'm not Oscar the grouch... although, strangely, he was my favorite character from Sesame Street when I was a child!
Aw cmon, you can wear the helmet. It has a chin strap! So when you take Maggie for a walk and she tires of wearing it, you can help her out.
When I got my first apartment, I found a full size bed in the trash downstairs and it became the sofa of my nearly-empty pad. That place had an echo - nice big rooms with nothing in them. :)
LOL, you look like a Japanese version of Mickey Mouse with that head piece on. When I was about 10 my mom used to take me to the local mall and have me dumpster dive for plastic hangers *ducks head in shame* I think she's resposible for my needing therapy.
Quite a collection. You're lucky to have room to keep it. Why not make a video where you explain what Japanese women mean when they talk about the "big garbage?" :) Aloha
Man! Japanese ppl really have some exquisite gomi...LOL!!! I wouldn't find nothing like that in my garbage not in a million years. Cool video, keep up the good work ;)
This is typical. Where I leave, there are several Japanese-based companies. When the Japanese representatives leave, they toss just about everything purchased State-side. I was told that the did this to avoid paying taxes on the these purchases.
wow thats some cool garbage there i always take rolly chairs and random stuff like crutches from the garbage, then just mess around with them wtih my friends
hmmmm Aussies do not seem to throw away anything worth salvaging... except on counsel clean up day... but that's technically illegal... cool stuff by the way
smow me your gomi eh? well here in the UK, our rubbish is, well rubbish - people tend not to chuck pretty decrative ideas out, they're usually taken to a charity shop where they are sold to help what ever charity runs the shop.
anyway, when i was working as the cleaner for my gaijin dorm last year, i never had to buy manga because i would just read for an hour knee deep in cardboard and trashwater in the middle of the day, and hide from the kanrinin. she had loud, fat footsteps so i never got caught (lucky me!) Wish I had a photo though
Save the cookie monster's head from Maggie! it'd be a pity. I really liked the black box... I've found awesome stuff in the garbage here also, but I haven't looked in a while (can't believe I'm writing this haha). In any case most of my stuff is second hand (immigrant+student=no choice), and most of it's so good you wouldn't tell.

maybe its cursed thats why they throw it
