Your book inspired me to work in the social work feild. You are an amazing strong minded person that i can truely respect. you've came across many difficult obstacles in life but here you are, a healthy man!
Dave is a survivor he did what ever he had to do to stop his mother abusing him by any way god bless that he is om today your books dave make people tell how you were when you were little good bless that know you dont have to eat poop just keep your live going without your mom and dad but to know your brothers loved you know and then and the still do good bless you dave
Dave was so brave and amazing to get through all he did and not hate life after it, hes my inspiration and i look up to him for having an opened mind in life ,im sure hes an amazing father and husband. his books were so good and so were his brothers, his story made me think so differenly in life.
Try reporting severe child abuse in Australia,3 witnesses all willing to go to court, and it's like constantly banging your head against a brick wall, chi;d services don't want to know and police refuse to take statements,The Ombudsman is the same story,no one has to wonder why our precious children die at the hands of their parents.
i did read this and some other related and his author...i really love this book and a lot of tears came out of my eyes,i wanted to hug him at right moment...being a mother and rise my kids alone,i am very proud of you DAVID.....i love my kids my whole life
I know that she probably had some mental illness and alcoholism but the things she did gos way beyond that she didnt just lash out at him a few times she did sadistic horrible things that innoscent child whom she gave birth to and enjoyed it because she was a sick twisted evil monster who deserves the worst punishment possible for ALLL of eternity and beyond she put him through hell for as long as she possibly could so its her turn i HOPE thats where she is
The hole thing is so very sad. ;-( I don't understand how a mother could do that to a child and her own at that! It makes me sick. Well the good thing is, she died! yeah
I read it today and last night and I balled my eyes out but I'm 12 and after I read this I realized I don't have it bad I just have to do chores I don't get beat.
I really pity david pelzer, for the many years of struggling, he always inspire me with his perseverance to survive and never give up. Although he is abused for 8 years, his is forever willing to accept his fate.
I've read the first three books he wrote. Such an awful life he had but what an inspiration he is to everyone. He's an amazing man who has been through so much.
I read A child called it, The lost boy & Some of A man named Dave ....I read a child called it 2 summers ago, I was 12...& I just read it again this summer & I hope that biiitch is burning in hell right now, no child deserves to be treated that way.
I find him very inspiring and amazing. He struggled A LOT as a child and look how far he comes. How I wish his mother was still around and see how much he achieved just so she'll realize how wrong is she.
Does anyone know how's the relationship between Dave and his mom before she passed away?
if you dislikes this im taking its only because you see how bad his life was and you dislike the fact that something this horrific could really happen to a decent human being
i hope pedo's and people like this cruel cunt!! burn in hell over and over again! dave you most have a big heart if you can forgive her for all the stuff she done!! if it was me i would of stabbed her to death when she slept
i hope pedo's and people like this cruel cunt!! burn in hell over and over again! dave you should of stabbed her when she was asleep when she was pissed!!
I believe Dave is correct in the idea that people must move away from victim mentality, as they move to healing, and heal the physical and emotional wounds. Think of beautiful things. People like Mandala, who was imprisoned for 20 years and became the president of South Africa .. and others.. refer to this power of thought for hie success and happiness in life, through horrific circumstances.
Mr. Pelzer is still glamorizing child abuse. Child abuse doesn't ALWAYS produce euphoria in a person/ abused adult. This is a wrong picture. Child abuse is MORBID and if anything concerning horrific abuse is promoted, it should be an awareness on demons and substance abuse.
Consider that being an adult survivor of child abuse as a kid is similar to a prisoner of war surviving torture, physically and emotionally, by the prison captors. There are many accounts of prisoners of war. And although there lives are not the same, many that survive make the best of thier situation, in their resilience and in the healing process. The idea is not to take away the truth of what happenned, but to re-frame it, to survive and heal, and have a wonderful life after.
@upcycle And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation. Hebrews 9: 27—28 Jesus Christ suffered a horrible death for me. I will tell everybody all about eternal salvation (next life; this one's not the only one) that is through what He did for all of us.
I have read ALL of Dave's books, and in them, he keeps saying he was "lost" and then, at age 12, he was 'saved' by community officials. This is painting a picture that there is no God, and there is no saving power through His Son, Jesus, who was brutally martyred.
Here's why: God is infinite, His power has the ability to save, including from death, God really did create Satan to prove His children, whether they be faithful or not (read Job or any of the gospels concerning the person and the work of Jesus of Nazarene).
THERE REALLY IS A GOD AND HE REALLY DID SEND HIS SON JESUS TO REDEEM ALL OF US. Abuse is NOTHING NEW. These nonfiction books point to atheism and a need to rely on "men" as our official means of salvation. WRONG.

For those of you who think David Pelzer is lying, all you have to do is look up his dss record in california and see he is telliing the truth. Child protective services doesnt just remove a child from their home and put them in foster care for nothing. How would you feel if you or someone you loved was going through hellish torment and nobody would believe you?If you turn away a child who is being abused then your no better than the abuser!!!!!!!
@092119761 It happened to me, but no one believed me. I eventually gave up. It took 7 years of therapy to just get where I am. I am 29 with a husband I have been with since I was 17 and I have 3 children of my own (5, 3, and 1). I have no friends and I desperately want to belong. im glad to see that dave has moved on from this tarrifying thing. :) he is a true hero for it. these books make me cry. And for the people that are saying his lying! Why would some one lie about this? He is not lying so go somewhere! This guy suffered through a whole lot. And WOULD NOT LIE ABOUT CHILD ABUSE AND UNLESS YOU KNOW HIM PERSONALLY I WOULDNT GO SAYING HIS LYING!
Im Gladd To See That Dave Is Doing Great From All Those Years That His Mom Has Abused Him And That He Made His Own Books I Personaly Have Read Some Of His Books It Made Me Think That How Could Such A Person Be Raised To Be Such A Terrible Person But Now That She Is Not Around In Daves Life I Think That All Of That MaDe Him The Person That He Is Today I Couldnt Be More Happier That He Has A Wife And Children . God Bless Him.
At first i wanted to throw this book I bought at a garage sale out the window. It was so sad i wanted to know why his mother went from nice to a nasty bitch, i haven't put the book down. I'm sorry to read your pain David and glad you have moved forward in life
This guy is a lying piece of shit. Do some research before you let your heart bleed for this fuck. In the book, his mom allegedly leaves him in the bathroom with a bucket of ammonia and bleach. Ammonia and bleach creates chlorine gas, which will fucking KILL YOU.
Why would anyone in their right mind give this a thumb's down? This guy lived through hell most of us can't even imagine (unfortunately, some of us can), survived and thrived AND went on to help others. That's pretty amazing. The only people that would give this a thumb's down are 1) trolls 2) HUGE Dave Pelzer fans who want an AMAZING video that blows our minds. Dave Pelzer is a hero and a crusader against child abuse! We need more people to be that courageous!
you guys know that his mom went through abuse and was treated like dave but i dont feel bAD ya'll think she would love her kids and not pick favorites you know! it so sad i cried reading this book it so sad to see a child go through helpless, hopeless, guilt and even foster care
@jeff10597 Dont wish that even tho all she did to him i know but she was mentel and even so its very bad to wish that upon people no matter what they have done
@nancy11381 Same here. I read this book for the first time when my son was only one years old. My love for him is beyond words. How can any mother or father for that matter do this to their child?
I used to cut myself and think I had a terrible life but then I read the book "A Child Called It" in my english class and it made me go home and want to thank my mom for everything she has done for me. After reading this book it made me realise that I have a very great life. My life could be so much worse. This video made me cry life...5 seconds into it.
@pierrebouvier518 That is so amazing. I am cring now from reading this. I used to cut myself too, untill I realized how good I have compaired to other who dont have a life as good as mine. I may not have alot of money and we were poor when I was a kid but ourparents took care of us the best they could espesially my mom. Very touching comment.
I hope there is a hell just so this bitch will burn. Sometimes during the book it would make me mad at David that he kept trying to have some kind of relationship with the evil cunt. I wish he had beat the hell out of her. I am so glad that he has a good wife and good life. He deserves it.
@MyVoicenotSilenced Both father and mother passed on, but my mother left a letter behind for me, which I hoped was an apology, turned out to be a vicious spiteful attempt to make me feel guilty for not staying in contact with her over the past 25 yrs. I am ambivolent to this type of phycological torture and it means nothing to me. Forunate for me and others like me we've developed the wisdom to stand above these things.
My only surviving sister lives a few blocks away and we ignore each other.
@blingbling368 I am sure you will go through this....and time is the only one who will help you heal, you sound like a very strong person to me and we all can learn with your experience
@MyVoicenotSilenced Nothing wrong with that, but if it's a fabrication or an exaggeration, he's disrespecting abuse victims that are telling the truth. Don't lie and exaggerate and say things happened when they didn't just to line your pockets.
i hate that it all happend to him if any child is abused they should tell their teachers or the police i mean his so called mother should have been sent to death imideatly and her other kids should have went into foster care. i bet after david left she treated one of the other boys like that
@908lulu After David left, one of his brothers did get abused. He wrote a book called "A Brother's Journey:Surviving a Childhood of Abuse." I am so glad David and his brother became survivors.
This is a strong man, when he met up with her as an adult he was the bigger person and didn't act for revenge, I don't know if I could do the same! His father was a coward too for not helping him, but his mother was horrible beyond all comphrehension, poor guy!
Holy dear God Almighty in Heaven- I was HORRIFIED by the attrocities and depravities committed by his mother. It required all of my faith to listen and not go mad!
When I watched the episode of Oprah Winfrey, I was completely stunned by his (David's) statement that he had learned to forgive his mother. He explained that by doing so, he cleansed himself of the negative feelings and has been made into a stronger person for it.
yes READ IT those who havnt, even if you dont really read you wont put it down and you'll soon realise just why he one of the most respected people on earth. i want to meet him.. first thing id do is give him a massive hug
you can bet she's in hell! God doesn't let people like that into His kingdom. i have that book, too and everytime i read it and other child abuse stories i get mad at the abuser.
omg!!!! lov u david pelzer, ur story is amazing, im glad u were safed... i have ur books n i swear i have read them like 10 times, n i always cry just to imagen u in that basment n all the other stuff that happend, but im happy that u proved the mother wrong n look wat has become of u, ur a hero!!!!!
I read this book today in 2 hours. I wanted to put it down just because of the thought of someone doing that to their child or any child is just crazy. I hope his "mother" is rotten in hell.
I wish his mom was still alive. I would put her through a degree of torture that would not even come close to what she inflicted upon her child. As human beings we have to sadly accept that there are people like this out there, and that these people deserve to be punished for the evil in which they inflict on the innocent. I hope this bitch burns in the deepest pits of Hell for eternity.
I lived pretty close to the same way,,,not just by mom's hand but every other family member. 3 sisters 2 brothers and a father that went into a shark feeding frenzy whenever he had a reason, real or imagined. I now have two beautiful children of my own and have gone above and beyond to help them find their own peace.
My mother took my left eye out of it's socket with her nails when I was ten yrs. old and my father and sister laughed.
@blingbling368 im so sorry you did not have a loving family as a kid but know tht people around the world especially your friends are fighting to keep abuse away.. i may be 15 and not know what abuse is like but im jus happy the way you fought to survive like pelzer.. people like your are american heroes
ive read davids first three books, i didnt know about the others. i gotta say he is a real inspiration. i havent had a great upbringing but my life was like disneyland compared to davids. for all the crying i did reading about his life, i also found the courage to keep moving forward. thank you david for allowing us to share in the sorrows of your life and showing that you can move forward and have a life.
im 13 and i have to read "a child called it" for summer reading. i cant stand to read something that will make me cry but this man is so remarkable im willing to take it.
I have read "A child called it, The lost boy and A man called Dave" and they made me cry, I work with kids and have seen some cases of abuse but nothing like what David went through, how ne1 could hurt a child or let a child be hurt like that I will never understand, even if they are bad/misbehaved there is always a better way to deal with children. What kids need is love, protection, shelter, food, clothing and understanding
I read the book A child called it. im in fifth grade and at my age if i was beaten like that i would be dead. I dont know how he survived. Im so happy he survived though. Im sorry for what happened to him. Its not fair. He didnt choose that life. how could a mom treat their child like that? It just doesnt make sence.
Just read the book... I cried many times. How can anyone treat a child like that. I really commend him for making it through everything. He deserves all the success he achieves. I just can't imagine what his mother was thinking. From the ammonia/bleach "treatment" to the cold baths.... this man really went through it.
@doeeyes110 If you are sincere by saying that Richard is your father. I have read every book by Dave Pelzer and the one by Richard Pelzer, very tragic lives. I hope he too has found some peace.
@minnesotafreeze Ppl are saying that a lot of the stuff he talks about can't be proven. They say he was abused, but as far as being the "third worst case" of child abuse & all that is something he said himself. "Dysfunction for Dollars" is a good article.
i met him. i shook his hand. he gave a speech he was also very sweaty no offense. he told us all about his horrible child hood. He use to go to my middle school he is a very interesting man.
I have read all the books and it amazes me how someone can do that for so long.....I can only say i want to meet that BITCH AND NOCK THE FUCKING SHIT OUT OF HER!!!!!!!!!!!1
such an amazing man, i read 'a child called it' in one day!! i just coudlnt put it down, the whole trilogy of books is just so beautiful. if their is one man i would like to hug, it would be david pelzer. the way the story is told, just makes the reader so involved. like i wanted to reach out and hold his hand and tell him hes gonna be ok. to be honest i wished the last book " a man named dave" that he loved himself a bit more, if he understood the magnitude of the positive impact his life has.
one of my sons brought "A Child Called It" home from school and I sat and read it. I cried for that poor boy. One of my parents was abusive and I found it's not until you have your own child that you begin to realize how bad it was. Because you can't imagine doing that to your own child and can't imagine your own precious kids going through what you had to go through.. but i cried reading his books, at least i had one parent who cared and go us out of the situation.
I read a child called it and I'm going to start reading the lost boy. These books are fantastic not because of the abuse, but because of his will to survive. These are very compelling stories and it really opened my eyes to how severe child abuse can be. It is amazing how strong David is to be able to live through all of this. If you haven't read it, read it. You will be glad you did.
perfect song for him

Why would some one lie about this? He is not lying so go somewhere! This guy suffered through a whole lot. And WOULD NOT LIE ABOUT CHILD ABUSE AND UNLESS YOU KNOW HIM PERSONALLY I WOULDNT GO SAYING HIS LYING!

After reading this book it made me realise that I have a very great life. My life could be so much worse. This video made me cry life...5 seconds into it.

@MyVoicenotSilenced Nothing wrong with that, but if it's a fabrication or an exaggeration, he's disrespecting abuse victims that are telling the truth. Don't lie and exaggerate and say things happened when they didn't just to line your pockets.
tigerslilly29 1 year ago
i hate that it all happend to him if any child is abused they should tell their teachers or the police i mean his so called mother should have been sent to death imideatly and her other kids should have went into foster care. i bet after david left she treated one of the other boys like that
908lulu 1 year ago
@908lulu After David left, one of his brothers did get abused. He wrote a book called "A Brother's Journey:Surviving a Childhood of Abuse." I am so glad David and his brother became survivors.

This is a strong man, when he met up with her as an adult he was the bigger person and didn't act for revenge, I don't know if I could do the same! His father was a coward too for not helping him, but his mother was horrible beyond all comphrehension, poor guy!
stipV 1 year ago
Holy dear God Almighty in Heaven- I was HORRIFIED by the attrocities and depravities committed by his mother. It required all of my faith to listen and not go mad!
When I watched the episode of Oprah Winfrey, I was completely stunned by his (David's) statement that he had learned to forgive his mother. He explained that by doing so, he cleansed himself of the negative feelings and has been made into a stronger person for it.
I truly do admire him. God bless David Pelzer.

I read this book today in 2 hours. I wanted to put it down just because of the thought of someone doing that to their child or any child is just crazy. I hope his "mother" is rotten in hell.
yvette789799 1 year ago

I read these books. They say he's a fraud. Idk. I wouldn't be surprised. Look up "Dysfunction for Dollars."
tigerslilly29 2 years ago
@tigerslilly29 Dave's case is very well documented, it's not like he just appeared one day and claimed all of this. His books are his real life.
minnesotafreeze 1 year ago
@minnesotafreeze Ppl are saying that a lot of the stuff he talks about can't be proven. They say he was abused, but as far as being the "third worst case" of child abuse & all that is something he said himself. "Dysfunction for Dollars" is a good article.

maybe the books are not autobiographies per se. But are autobiographical.. as in the conversations and going's on are true recounts of his life.

such an amazing man, i read 'a child called it' in one day!! i just coudlnt put it down, the whole trilogy of books is just so beautiful. if their is one man i would like to hug, it would be david pelzer. the way the story is told, just makes the reader so involved. like i wanted to reach out and hold his hand and tell him hes gonna be ok. to be honest i wished the last book " a man named dave" that he loved himself a bit more, if he understood the magnitude of the positive impact his life has.
mainmanmoose 2 years ago
one of my sons brought "A Child Called It" home from school and I sat and read it.
