  • please can any one tell me haw i can send this clip to my mobile???

  • look everybodyis different I think he's quit good; onur is fantastic but way different from this guy

  • ravetranceaddict or what a shit you are fuck yourself

  • otutturuyon lan tam

  • i dont think he's as good as someone like onur who is just non stop turkish style but this guy is great and the rhythms are aesthetically pleasing as well as complex. i'd love to learn a thing or two from him

  • what a talent! great musician !

  • you should have lısten onur!

he is a great master l had never saw someone play dabruka as hım

  • This comparision isn't legitimate because both drummers play very different styles and use varying techniques. Comparing Souhail to a great Arabic style player, like Faisal for example, is more appropriate.

  • Yes, Faisal is a great player...very humble and a great guy too.

  • He should listen to Amir. That guy is GOOD.

  • You are joking. Amir is not a good drummer. Maybe his age and so-called experience garners respect from people but he VERY AVERAGE. A popular instructional DVD doesn't mean anything, his recorded work is a JOKE. Out of all the "famous" drummers, Amir is the worst.

  • You really think Amir is that bad? I like his musical sense. Who do you like?

  • In comparision to the "famous" drummers, absolutely! Souhail is much better than Amir, ego and all. Amir is a very weak player. He could be a great teacher, I wouldn't know. My favorite Arabic style drummers are Faisal, Gamal, and Said. With music, Said is a master. NO ONE tops him. Others who are good; Amir Sofi, Farouk, Souhail, Suleiman. Who are your favorites?

  • This guy is such an egotistical asshole. He doesn't even play that well! What a jerk!

  • hah i agree with you ^.^ finally someone that agrees with me

  • Nice work your the best!!

  • great performence , amazing,thank you.

  • Outside of the Middle East, how many of us even knew what a doumbek was before artists like Souhail Kasper began performing and recording in this country?

The world beat scene is opening us to all kinds of exotic sounds unknown even a decade ago...and I bought a doumbek because I love the way it sounds....listen with open ears and an open mind, man!

  • stunning artistry and technique, world class artist.if you know middle eastern drumming, then you know this guy is a master.

  • este hombre es un Showman!

  • 2:33 he screwed up, of beat

  • lol if u think he screw up then u r very ignorant about offbeats -.-

that was offbeat try to get a better ear =S

  • yeah this guy stayed at my house [bed and breakfast]!!! hes cool! taught me beats =].

  • This is incredible...

  • I've watched a ton of tabla/dumbek solos on YouTube, and out of all of them I think this is one of the most musical and enjoyable. Lots of others are very fast but have no pulse or dynamics. Split hand and all that stuff is neat but everyone seems to be overdoing it right now. Also I think as players we need to remember that if the only people we entertain are other drummers, that's a very insular type of success. Thank you for your dedication Souhail!

  • magnifico

  • Who coined this term "classical Egyptian style?" This is nothing but nonsense. Arab music is based on the maqamat and taqsim. Hitting styles vary, but the taqasim are personal.

Played simply, with little to no embellishment during a dhikr allowing people to enter a state of trance, however, in musical performance, it is in the hands of the musician, whether for accompaniment, solo, or syncopation.

I think you guys are giving older drummers a reputation they do not deserve.

  • Nonsense? You clearly don't have a clue as to the methods and practices he uses when he plays.

There is a big difference in arabic styles, and the manner by which they are played.

That's like putting all drummers into the same category just because they play drum. The methods and practices they use are different, just as the beats and timings are different.

  • Souhail plays classical Egyptian style.

    He is an excellent drummer.

  • very nice

  • It is danceable, that is what is important to me! I have seen he gives workshops and next time I am SO there!

  • I have to agree with gurbetchi, concerning Souhail's technique, though I would add that it has no overall flow and is just a jumble of syncopation from the doumbek repertoire, without focus or umph. There is such a thing as doumbek improvisation and musicality.

Why does he call himself a "master percussionist?"

  • Souhail, you are awesome!

  • awesome, beautiful fast sound drum, i like that

  • DrumTecnique is right, he needs improvement. He is good but any good percussionist can see that he needs to work on his hitting technique and rolls as well as his "pulse". At min. 2:30, he really missed it! But nonetheless, you are a great entertainer Souhail.

And people who are not respectful to others pride has no pride of their own!

  • ummm..if u checked out the darbuka videos i told u to check out, i think you would've held back from typing "dont do anything well", Turks really are the most amazing darbuka players in the world, especially Romani turks...what is ur hatred to turks based on? Your own pride in your nation? How is Turkey made up of lies and decite? And btw, what country isn't? Learn something and stop spewing ignorant bullshit you pompous prick.

  • okay sure all countries are made up of lies and decite but turkey is pretty much a lie. they are not from the caucasus region im not exactly sure but i do know that they came from around like farther east. then they stole land and claimed that they didnt and were there all along...and im not basing this on pride for my nation i just dont think that turks play well.

  • I agree, especially for a drummer specializing exclusively in arabic technique, playing without background accompaniment is a true sign of whether real talent and skill exists. Souhail is good with or without background percussion by the way.

  • yallah ya aml hagg, illab

  • thats really cool!

  • fabulous..can u teach me :-)?

  • thats so perfect really awesome

  • just amazing

  • مع راسه كنه تمره

  • sen ne anlarsin, adam master, anlamini biliyorsan...

  • çok dandik darbuka

  • Yes!You are right about turkish but this is another techniqe and for this techniqe he is not so bad.Watch my videos with Natiq Sirinov-he plays with some another than turkish and arabic techniqe.

  • check out! DOUMBEK SOLO AT CELINI'S CAFE FEB,2007, his name is gamal he plays realy good.

  • Hey Souhail,I am a darbuka player to,and I consider u,Said & Misirli the kings of darbuka.Now I am looking for a darbuka begginer DvD for a friend of mine,because I don't have the patient to teach him.And I ask you syncerly,which DvD is best for beginers:Dvid Kuckhermann's,your's,or Amir Naoum's? respect,Alex

  • REALLY GREAT !!!!! When are you coming to Spain???!!

  • I would love to go to Spain, I am looking for sponsor.

    thank you.

  • thank you souhail

  • he's ok. his playing is clean and accurate but overall kind of flat and it gets dull - no real structure to the solo - mostly show.

  • Fannaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan! This guy is a huge talent. Thanks for the vid :D

  • What feeling!!! I love your tabla playing!!

  • Haha he got everyone into the rhythm! Awesome haha =D love it

  • I like this guys style

  • I just met Souhail Kasper today for part one of a two day Tablah workshop. His extreme musicianship is equally matched with his warm personality, humor, and attention to detail in teaching the classical techniques to playing the Tablah correctly. He has a great instructional DVD (which I am taking a break from watching to post this) which shows everything it takes to get that good, provided of course you practice all the time! His web site is neareastmusic.

  • Thank you very much for understanding the different between classical & Street drummers.I prescient your comment.

  • i really wanna be that good someday. someday....meanwhile, i am taking lessons....occasionally

  • Why not cut out the humour by the clapping and play the drum in normal way! Just like the best Afgan drummer 'Siar hashimi'. Who is th best Turkish drummer?

  • this guy named Onur is the absolute best, he has some videos on youtube- this one will blow your mind: type in

    Amazing Darbuka II

  • yes, what about non stop playing without back rithm?

  • WHAT A GOOD PLAYER!!!! I`m playing tarabuka too!Its my job...and i just want to ask you mr Souhail Kaspar...how can I be one of your students!!!! CAN YOU TEECH ME???????????????????????????

  • I am here to teach everyone who need to be the best classical player.visit my Website neareastmusic and go to event and find out about the classes. thank you

  • Thank you Souhail!! I will visit your site. Thanks for the great performance!

  • Come on guys he is just amazing!!..out of this world...

  • too bad this 1920's style Tablah solo is so burned out; his strikes are so solid, his chops are so tight, but he sounds like a stereotype.
