If MMA was so superior the military will be using it. to make a long story short. MMA are great athletes, they are tough but there not superior. It is more sport like then combat/self defense orientated. If you roll around on the ground yo leave your self open to get beat if there were multiple attackers or if the guy pulled out a weapon. If you on the ground rollin around makes you vulnerable can MMA fighters handle knife in the eye or in the kidney while they are rolling around on the ground?
thats not the point!! the point is you put any "kung fu" master you want in the octagon with a great mma fighter and watch them get handled!and do not call it rolling around on the ground!!! go take ONE BJJ class and roll with ONE BJJ black belt and you tell me how much of it was "rolling around"!
Yes , I agree with you put an MMA fighter in a ring, with rules, a ref, and limataions. Going toe to toe with a grappler or BJJ master its hands down in their favor...I do respect MMA,wrstlers ,graplers are supperior athletes key word athletes sport....vs combat, self defense life and death...the game changes when you add weapons ,and multiple attackers
Right you are. If you take a Gung Fu Master and put then in the octagon WITH MMA rules then the master will lose unless they do alot of ground fighting and grappling. MMA is a nice sport but if your looking for moves to use in real combat it will not work since MMA is used for Rules and 1 on 1 fights.

Blindbagua1-so true. Although I practice bjj, I can tell you that you don't always have the opportunity to take someone to the ground. we fight with gloves in the ring, but the sad truth is, a pro boxer could probably whoop my ass when I am unprepared no gloves. You never see those punches fly, and when you do it's too late. Taking mma doesn't make you a better fighter, learning street smart, like respect or learn to use a beer bottle or knee to the groin is more effective.
im not dissing mma, i gotta say their concept is more realistic than any one type of martial art. kung fu is too over rated by americans in pop culture, ppl start comparing its efficiecy with mma. Keep in mind before these white masters and jackie chan, kung fu was used by Chinese boxer rebels with weapons. Take that efficiency vs. cage fighters.
Cage fighters have ref's rule and regulations. real Chinese and Okinawan/ Japanese Internal arts that are based on self defense and combat are very real and have no ref's and really can't be treated in a caged sporting event. Because they really have lethal unreversable consequences, and there theory's and principles have had real life testing through combat. Any doubts view some clips on you tube by Erle Montaigue AKA on you tube Moontagu
ok , ill take a kung fu master with a bo staff, at 125 pounds . over a 225 expert mma fighter, id like to see ur mma fighter try to put this man in a sleeper hold while catching a 6 ft 2in round stick across the face.
reply to blindbagua1: I use to practice okinawa karate up for 2 years 6 months, california karate academy by jim the arrow catcher in cupertino, ca. I recieved a brown belt with 4th degree in japanese weapons. But honestly I can tell you all that 1 punch kill is bs. I practiced for more than 2 years, a white belt guy with more brute strength was put on the mat with me. He did a leg tackle and I fell on the mat broke my neck (this was at age 17 weighing 135lbs). So am I weak back then? yeah.
i asked myself how could this be? I am chinese by the way, I went to Xi An during that summer, and found some tai chi practictioners. They claim they know Qi Gong, they claimed it's "ireversable effects", and yet they refuse to show me, even using trees, or rocks, or even a wood plank. I use to believe in Tai Chi, practiced it for 6 months, but movies are still movies. "Zhang San Feng" dubbed "Twin Warrior" By Jet Li is far from reality.
A lot of masters out there, claiming their punches are effective, and yes, if you slow everything down to demonstration speed, everyone can be masters of counters and blocks. But real fights are not the same, ask anyone who have sparred before.
to whatleymattu and blindbagua1: I've lost faith in kung fu and karate from real life experiences, not just from my karate incident when I was 17. I am now 21, I go to UC Davis, I take boxing and bjj. I can bench press 190lb free weight, squat 264lb, and deadlift 360lb. I weigh 185lb, and I have 17.5inch bicepts. If you want to see me beat a 125lb guy with a bo to a bloody pulp, I'd be more than happy to, just sign a no liability contract. See that's not why I started this discussion.
is u benching 190 alot ? i could bench atleast 215 in hs, and i was a cross country runner. and i , dont practice any kinda martial arts. but i have practiced with a bow staff. and i know for sure that no way would u be able to even fuck with me, id keep u at a distance , and if u even thought about getting close, a quick forward thrust from about 6 ft away to ur chin, or chest would make you think otherwise. and thas from 6 ft away . u couldnt even tackle me from that far away. (continued )
ok , one , they are only movies, yes,,, they do not claim to be real , they fly in there movies. did u use to belive that you could learn to fly ? those movies are more about wu shu, and the movies should be taken as a way to look at life, and the way you live , not as a way to break bricks with a ball out of water. u say u took okinawa karate,, so did karate kid, haha from now on, u will be refered to as ralph matchio.have u seen jet li's the legend,,watch it , and take in the meaning. please
Haha karate kid. i too practiced bo when i was 17, but i've done it for a little more than 2 years. First of all, I'd laugh if you brought a stick into a cage so that we could sparr, you think you can keep your distance? you think you could hit me on the chin on your first strike? Sign a no liability contract and lets go at it. I got my ass kicked so many times, thinking that im the shit, even when i think i had the skills, i tell you what reality is different.
since i started going to uc davis, I can say i've sparred with way more than just some 125lb keyboard warrior hiding behind his bo. If you think your so tough, lets go at it, give me your email, i'll mail you a contract and we'll meet up. Otherwise stfu cuz you ain't got shit to proof. Chicken shit.
daniel son, yes, i too think it would be funny to bring a staff into a cage . but on a open mat, would be diff, and yes, i do think i could hit ur chin. or chest , oww and if i was lucky , but would never try on purpose , ur throut, can we say "collapsed". when u practice on a 2"x4" ur sence of accuracy is sharpened. oww hold on,a 2x6 my bad. but the rest still applys. honestly , unless you could just endure a hard hit , to get inside my guard. there is still fighting, u would be already hurt :)
ur name is daniel son? jk, Im Brian, i know how much a bo hurts, but trust me unless you come at me at a full swing, very accurately, when I am off guard, somewhere on my head or neck, i've closed my distance. And once I get a hold of you, its over. Bos are not the fastest weapons, and I got some shaolin monk friends, and those guys swing fast I admit, but they've been monks for more than 15years.
so unless you have their percesion and speed, you'd be disadvantaged, not just fighting against me, but anyone whos a little tougher, and has a half a brain to close the distance. You think you can get the full 6ft range? ur staff is prob no more than 2 and a half in think and no longer than 6ft, anything more than that then you'll swing with grandma speed, and if your bo is fast enough, I'll still take my chance, keep away from your bo distance, or step in two steps and tackle you.
He really had to fight to learn more of his arts. He one of few that has documention directly from china to back up what he says. Go to his sight send him a e-mail he is very friendlty to talk and communicate to.
maybe you were just too green. I do understand were you are coming from. when I first learned karate I shortly also took boxing lesson. My first thought was holy crap good thing i didnt get into a real fight. But later on I found a really competant instructor okinawan karate along the lines of Master Oyata and George Dillman Real karate that is internal uses pressure point fighting.check out Taika Seiyu Oyata,George Dillman, please re-visit a real Master Erle Montaigue website he has awsome site
dude, mma fighters train for a full contact combat sport, most kung fu guys train for different reasons, but there are some that train in full contact fighting (sanda/san shou)witch can be very effective in mma or on the street. There is much more to traditional martial arts then fighting. MMA is just for fighting. . . period. and its really effective. I know because i do both traditional and mma.
That's not all it's for, Tai Chi has many combat applications. It might have been developed as an internal martial art, but concepts and forms in tai chi can be manipulated and applied in battle. I mean, your really not going to go that slow when in a fight; you'd get your ass handed to you.
I have not seen one single asian person teach martial arts. What's the deal? It's not that I don't think white people can't learn martial arts, but we did frickin' invent this shit.
these forms are for exercise and to practice technique, not for show. most of you don't even know what you're criticizing....if the dude put some force into it, ppl would probably think it were cooler, but this is only a demonstration...
I know that are a lot of differences among practioners...but there is one thing I totally disagree: this side-looking when you finished tantui. there is no reason to do that because you are making a double defense with arms. you should use your peripheral vision to watch opponents. when you look one side the other is forgotten...

well anyways a lot of ignorant people don't understand that.
kung fu is a self defense. people learn kung fu for self defense, not to get paid for kicking ass in the ring.

This is like a Tai Chi kinda thing to transfer energy to differnet parts ov the body... not actual moves to preform, so stop gettin so emotional
Olliewells212 3 years ago
That's not all it's for, Tai Chi has many combat applications. It might have been developed as an internal martial art, but concepts and forms in tai chi can be manipulated and applied in battle. I mean, your really not going to go that slow when in a fight; you'd get your ass handed to you.

I have not seen one single asian person teach martial arts. What's the deal? It's not that I don't think white people can't learn martial arts, but we did frickin' invent this shit.

these forms are for exercise and to practice technique, not for show. most of you don't even know what you're criticizing....if the dude put some force into it, ppl would probably think it were cooler, but this is only a demonstration...

davvero.....micidiale.....dove hai detto che insegni?
