my uncle sang this at my 19yr old cousins funeral when she died in 2003. It brought tears to my eyes as this was her favourite song and she used to sing it at family parties, often without any encouragement. Hannah Banana, when i hear this i often think of you and your wonderful loving ways, the way you almost strangled people when you hugged them and how you used to sit on my knee when i used to babysit you. We all love and miss you so much. goodnight my little groovy chick x x x
Visiting the memory of the red headed lad. His parents came from Cork so this song and video is very special but heavy on my heart. I miss him still......
Apologies to those who, having looked up this beautiful song, sung beautifully, (put a big smile on my face) find the comments are dominated by, unedifying discussions on personal freedom and the prosecution of freedom fighters. On a more relevant point, has anyone learned the words and had difficulty choosing which verses to sing. Londra sings verses 1,2&4 (see wikipedia) whereas McCormack, many peoples favourite sings verses 1,3&4.
yes, if only..... I comfort myself with the thought that ideas or opinions can never be imprisoned and that there are lots of ppl that share the same feelings. About the insurance policy, I don't know what he means, can be it is about the fact when Assange is out of the way, Wikileaks will still exists because he is not the only teammember. I just heard on the news that a bank in the US frose his account.. So you can see they are realy panicing. Have a nice evening. ;-)
What the hell are you people talking about ? This is a beautiful Irish song. it has nothing to do with Wikileaks. If you need to discuss politics, get a life and do it elsewhere, so the rest of us can listen to music and forget about this crap for a while.
@DirkjeA You rude bitch. People use the comments to share experience, emotion and understanding of the video, the song in this case. So if you want to discuss wikileaks, find a more appropriate place to do so.
@DubSun33 Yeah what ever...... Another one that thinks to dictate what ppl are allowed to talk about.

And yet when someone asks for the freedom to be allowed enjoy a beautiful song without interference you come out with shit like that. You are one fucked up bitch.

Beileve it or not I'm one of the most relaxed, chilled, life-enjoying people you'll ever exchange words with. :p
The point of worrying, is that I don't want me, my kids and so on to live as serfs (and with taxation without representation as it stands - and only getting worse - that's pretty much what we are). If we end the EU it'll be a HUGE victory for life and liberty - something very valuable.
Relaxed, yea - but also deeply concerned about seeing the countries I love sold up the river.
Free heart and mind, yea. Democracy is about the masses inflicting their will on the few through their elected representatives.
Liberty is about freedom.
Noone forces makes you conform? Try selling "organic" food without official permission. Try slaughtering your own livestock and selling them. Try keeping 100% of your income. Try openly consuming recreational drugs. Oh we're most certainly made to conform if we differ from the "mainstream" and the political class' rules in any way.
@thirteenfingers Sorry a little late to react, but only red your comments now. I totaly agree with you. People that think we are "free" are pretty ignorant. In Holland we have this saying (maybe exists in English too in some other words) that goes like:
Don't stick your head above the grass, it wil be cut off, in other words, try to differ a little from "mainstream" and ppl are ready to kill you, or at least make life difficult for you.
@DirkjeA I like the saying (I've not heard it before). It's remarkably clear in meaning. :o)
As for being free... not a chance!
There is a prime example in current affairs that show perfectly that those who stick their head above the grass have it cut off. He was obviously pushing the right buttons and the whole world's media has failed to cry foul when the governments got together to stop him. (In case it's not obvious... "wikileaks" should be a clue.)
@thirteenfingers Yes, I understood you were talking about Julian Assange. You see in his case how gov't react in panic with set up allegations and I am glad he is out on bail now. He is in western England at the moment in the house of a journalist, and lots of ppl were there to great him when he was released. I am so proud of him, and his team. Some people dare to stick their necks out, the least we can do is read the info provided. thanks for your nice reply btw, greetz from a dutch lady
I'm sure I'm not the only one, but I am very curious as to what the encrypted "insurance policy" he has posted might be. I was listening to a Joe Rogan (funny guy - but WAY off sometimes) podcast last night and he said he wondered if Assange had told them what the insurance policy is or not.
I just wish more people were so keen to see changes as him. Heck I'm no activist and even if most people were at MY level of wanting freedom - we'd be free already.
And in Ireland's case it would be economically smart, in fact it is the only economically viable solution in the face of the PIGS threat. If Ireland pulls out of the EU now, it will prosper. If not, it's done for.
The "YES" vote that came at the end of the completely undemocratic THIRD referendum, with the corrupt and taxpayer funded YES campaign was gained by making the majority of voters think the exact opposite was true.
The fact is, getting out of the EU is the best move ANY country could make. Removing all the barriers to trade, employment and so on would be incredible boosts to the economy (as would lower taxation across the board, but that's another argument).

Trying to make Europe a super state will just ruin the cultures that have developed. I'm not just talking about Ireland, I'm talking about the french, Germans and the rest.
Belonging to a nationality is what makes us what we are. I love Ireland and that isn't something that should be discouraged for the sake of unity.
@malicant123 I just can't agree more with you. I'm French and proud of it. Europe is a great opportunity to make business and to make the economy becoming stronger but that's all. Europe is intenting to destroy national feelings and intent to expend the control of the european parlement.

I'm all for easy movement of people and fewer barriers to trade... but the EU is about neither.
It's about the complete control of people and trade.
Everything about the EU has been an utter failure.
Freedom of choice with regards to food - gone.
National sovereignty - gone.
Democracy - gone. (don't think so? Ireland had THREE referendums on the one treaty - any more than one is proof positive that there's no democracy)
Our fish stocks - gone.
Money - gone.
Accountability - gone.
End it now!

@Bela010 -
matter of taste and sentiment, earwise.
Up to now I preferred women singing this song, though the first time I heard it was by Van Morrison, bless his liver, decades ago.
Thanks for your comment and fare the well.

Your (note: not you're) English is terribad. It's called Firefox, it has a built in spell check. You might consider using it.
Good try being an elitist asshole though.

Michael Londra's voice is hauntingly glorious, sensitive, viscerally moving, and (not to be trite) awesome. His heart, I happen to know, is equally awesome to experience. I hope and pray he goes very far!
