  • Che meravigliose suggestioni!

  • Good ol views of Cobh here!

  • RIP MICHAEL COLLINS I WILL NEVER FORGET WHAT YOU DONE FOR IRELAND

  • my uncle sang this at my 19yr old cousins funeral when she died in 2003. It brought tears to my eyes as this was her favourite song and she used to sing it at family parties, often without any encouragement. Hannah Banana, when i hear this i often think of you and your wonderful loving ways, the way you almost strangled people when you hugged them and how you used to sit on my knee when i used to babysit you. We all love and miss you so much. goodnight my little groovy chick x x x

  • Visiting the memory of the red headed lad. His parents came from Cork so this song and video is very special but heavy on my heart. I miss him still......

  • Caoineadh ó Cóbh! Tá brón orm

  • living away from Ireland and family this song brings me back home and to my family every time its in our souls

  • one of the best versions of this song that I've heard

  • I actually think this is Brian Kennedy singing this song..

  • who sing shtis?

  • Apologies to those who, having looked up this beautiful song, sung beautifully, (put a big smile on my face) find the comments are dominated by, unedifying discussions on personal freedom and the prosecution of freedom fighters. On a more relevant point, has anyone learned the words and had difficulty choosing which verses to sing. Londra sings verses 1,2&4 (see wikipedia) whereas McCormack, many peoples favourite sings verses 1,3&4.

  • Great song 5/5. Sweden

  • yes, if only..... I comfort myself with the thought that ideas or opinions can never be imprisoned and that there are lots of ppl that share the same feelings. About the insurance policy, I don't know what he means, can be it is about the fact when Assange is out of the way, Wikileaks will still exists because he is not the only teammember. I just heard on the news that a bank in the US frose his account.. So you can see they are realy panicing. Have a nice evening. ;-)

  • @DirkjeA

What the hell are you people talking about ? This is a beautiful Irish song. it has nothing to do with Wikileaks. If you need to discuss politics, get a life and do it elsewhere, so the rest of us can listen to music and forget about this crap for a while.

  • @suzannji Who instated you as spokesman for "the rest"? Listen to this song without reading the comments if they bother you so much.....

  • @DirkjeA You rude bitch. People use the comments to share experience, emotion and understanding of the video, the song in this case. So if you want to discuss wikileaks, find a more appropriate place to do so.

  • @DubSun33 Yeah what ever...... Another one that thinks to dictate what ppl are allowed to talk about.

And btw, being rude? I didnot insult anybody, I don't think you can say that for yourself. So please grow up and don't react on me anymore, you are way to boring to give any more thoughts.

  • @DirkjeA I read your oh so earnest views on freedom in your reply to thirteenfingers, and your profile where you spout " Music is the international language of love and understanding, goes together with smiling, we all can do it and we all understand. So lets listen to our favourite songs with a big smile on our face." And yet when someone asks for the freedom to be allowed enjoy a beautiful song without interference you come out with shit like that. You are one fucked up bitch.

  • @DubSun33 ZZZZZzzzzzzz.....Boring...

  • @DubSun33 Oh oh, look who is fucked up here. I would never insult someone the way you think you have to. I prefer my comments to be polite. Thirteenfingers and I were just in a debate, he enjoyed it, so why does it bother you? If someone wants to listen to this music without reading comments, thats oke with me. I would never call anyone a rude bitch, not even you. And furthermore, I am done with these silly replies by you, for me this subject ends here.

  • @DirkjeA Your manifest stupidity does not excuse your initial boorish behaviour or your subsequent attempts at distain. If you want it to end here, then I suggest you learn your lesson, and fuck off and behave yourself. Or as the Dutch say "Waarom praten we over wikileaks?"

  • Can I find this and other songs like this in an album?

  • though i have celtic blood (basque), my love for beer, whiskey and music makes me wonder why i was born in Argentina and not in Ireland or Scotland :P

  • wow... one word can sum it up. moving.

  • beautiful

  • this is so lovely

  • Another one. I have observed some profiles by British army army people , pissing on Irish postings. I suspect gt2e. Maybe I'm paranoid. Maybe not

  • My mum used to sing this to me every night :) I'm Irish and proud

  • I think you have a true Irish heart, and and a beautiful voice.

  • Great work.R

  • what is the name of those church ruins at 1:28-1:43?

  • @singular23 It's Quin Abbey in Co. Clare

  • Not an easy song to carry.

    Maith thú, a amhranaí!!!

    L

  • most beautiful rendition of this lovely poem by Padraic Colum.

  • Sang this for my Grade 6 exam last week, such a beautiful song

  • i heard this song a good few times at funerals during the troubles

  • It is sure a very beautiful and relaxing song.

  • I'm all for easy movement of people and fewer barriers to trade... but the EU is about neither.

It's about the complete control of people and trade.

Everything about the EU has been an utter failure.

Freedom of choice with regards to food - gone.

    National sovereignty - gone.

Democracy - gone. (don't think so? Ireland had THREE referendums on the one treaty - any more than one is proof positive that there's no democracy)

    Our fish stocks - gone.

    Money - gone.

    Accountability - gone.

    End it now!

  • @thirteenfingers just relax chill out enjoy life wots the point worrying;)

  • Beileve it or not I'm one of the most relaxed, chilled, life-enjoying people you'll ever exchange words with. :p

The point of worrying, is that I don't want me, my kids and so on to live as serfs (and with taxation without representation as it stands - and only getting worse - that's pretty much what we are). If we end the EU it'll be a HUGE victory for life and liberty - something very valuable.

Relaxed, yea - but also deeply concerned about seeing the countries I love sold up the river.

  • democracy is about a free heart and a free mind nobody makes you conform

  • Free heart and mind, yea. Democracy is about the masses inflicting their will on the few through their elected representatives.

    Liberty is about freedom.

Noone forces makes you conform? Try selling "organic" food without official permission. Try slaughtering your own livestock and selling them. Try keeping 100% of your income. Try openly consuming recreational drugs. Oh we're most certainly made to conform if we differ from the "mainstream" and the political class' rules in any way.

  • @thirteenfingers Sorry a little late to react, but only red your comments now. I totaly agree with you. People that think we are "free" are pretty ignorant. In Holland we have this saying (maybe exists in English too in some other words) that goes like:

Don't stick your head above the grass, it wil be cut off, in other words, try to differ a little from "mainstream" and ppl are ready to kill you, or at least make life difficult for you.

  • @DirkjeA I like the saying (I've not heard it before). It's remarkably clear in meaning. :o)

As for being free... not a chance!

There is a prime example in current affairs that show perfectly that those who stick their head above the grass have it cut off. He was obviously pushing the right buttons and the whole world's media has failed to cry foul when the governments got together to stop him. (In case it's not obvious... "wikileaks" should be a clue.)

Some day we may be free, though. :o)

  • @thirteenfingers Yes, I understood you were talking about Julian Assange. You see in his case how gov't react in panic with set up allegations and I am glad he is out on bail now. He is in western England at the moment in the house of a journalist, and lots of ppl were there to great him when he was released. I am so proud of him, and his team. Some people dare to stick their necks out, the least we can do is read the info provided. thanks for your nice reply btw, greetz from a dutch lady

  • @DirkjeA Greetings, Dutch Lady. :P

I'm sure I'm not the only one, but I am very curious as to what the encrypted "insurance policy" he has posted might be. I was listening to a Joe Rogan (funny guy - but WAY off sometimes) podcast last night and he said he wondered if Assange had told them what the insurance policy is or not.

I just wish more people were so keen to see changes as him. Heck I'm no activist and even if most people were at MY level of wanting freedom - we'd be free already.

  • @DirkjeA Waarom praten we over wikileaks?:P

  • Indeed. I'm with you 100%

And in Ireland's case it would be economically smart, in fact it is the only economically viable solution in the face of the PIGS threat. If Ireland pulls out of the EU now, it will prosper. If not, it's done for.

  • And the sad part?

The "YES" vote that came at the end of the completely undemocratic THIRD referendum, with the corrupt and taxpayer funded YES campaign was gained by making the majority of voters think the exact opposite was true.

The fact is, getting out of the EU is the best move ANY country could make. Removing all the barriers to trade, employment and so on would be incredible boosts to the economy (as would lower taxation across the board, but that's another argument).

    Slán.

  • @thirteenfingers irish freemasons, politicians and BANKERS.....not EU. EU swap the fish for agriculture the rest is on them selfs .....

  • @thirteenfingers EU built complete infrastructure in Ireland and got so many nonreturnable credits but what happened my friend?

    Greed !!

  • why is every commnet on this video made by nationalists?, i have no problem with it but lets not bring our countrys problems into the comments section plz. and besides without the EU ireland would be in an even worse state

  • god this song chills me, all celtic music does it to me.. that vid makes me think about my cousins across the water! love from Abla to eire, Albainn Gu-Brath, Éire Go Brách

  • The EU is a good idea for economics. It makes sense to have trade agreements with out neighbors but that is all the EU was founded to be and all it should ever have been.

Trying to make Europe a super state will just ruin the cultures that have developed. I'm not just talking about Ireland, I'm talking about the french, Germans and the rest.

Belonging to a nationality is what makes us what we are. I love Ireland and that isn't something that should be discouraged for the sake of unity.

  • @malicant123 I just can't agree more with you. I'm French and proud of it. Europe is a great opportunity to make business and to make the economy becoming stronger but that's all. Europe is intenting to destroy national feelings and intent to expend the control of the european parlement.

Each country must keep its own independance

  • I'm singing this on Saturay night with my friend Ray - God Bless Ireland God bless Michael Collins

  • im irish ,,,,, its no fucken fairy tale . but this song is class . we give this world so much . but never for our own . ireland is a mess . god bless my counrty x

  • God bless Ireland and those who gave there lives for it.

    TIOCFAIDH AR LA !

  • Beautiful but sad. It's a piece of the real Ireland, an Ireland that is almost no more.

  • @malicant123 not since they joined the EU at least!

  • fuck the EU i want out of it. its not working out. eu is on its last legs, ideals like this do not work, its been given a chance. but its not working

  • there are good and bad points about it but it generalises us all to much when each race is individual, what works for one may not work for another and who's to say which one is right and which wrong.

  • il ike teh idea of the EU and all that but when i was in school a pint of milk in cork was gonna be the same price in paris as in rome.. and passports we were not supposed to need them to traverse european states. but its not working the way it was proposed. so reform it or pull out asap or we will have no ireland at all

  • such a beautiful song and the fact micheal collins sang it makes it even better

  • Those that kept knowledge alive during the Dark Ages were the Muslims of Al-Andalus and the Middle East, for sure. About music, I don't know.

  • I really like this sony I sing it very different... And 4 the person that said "us irish" don't apreciate it, obviously don't kno the irish...we really charish this kind of music and fokelore which is passed down thru gererations and ppl come and sing it at sing songs!!!

  • @sullivangarry I don't want to get into a row here but that song isn't that old it was only written in the 1920's. But I think I get your point about cherishing our fokelore being Irish

  • Yea Loreena Mc Kennith sings very well this song

  • To my mind this song is the most beautiful secular song in the whole world. The problem is you Irish don't realise it, and just take it for granted.

  • us irish play this when we loose a loved one . dont patronise me you un educated fool

  • Honestly?

You felt the need to say this?

The fool is the one who generalizes the meaning behind a song as the act of a race. (I mean you.)

    Get help.

    Slán

  • Teigh go dti an dhaibhail... gobshite.

  • excuse me? "we irish" love this song. we don't take ANY of our music for granted. it tells the story of our people. this song especially captures all the loss and heartbreak in our history.

  • Gobshite is the least of it ye great amadon. Get your facts straight about just who kept music and knowledge alive during the dark ages and still stands by that legacy

  • I`ve listened to several versions but the one I most like is Loreena McKennitt`s Nights from Alhambra, I`m a very big fan of her.

  • Comment removed

  • Lovely. Alan Stivell also does a brilliant version.

  • Reminds me of Pipin's Song from Return of the King. The notes are powerful and dramatic. There's definitely not enough of this kind of music, least not enough at this level of quality. Thanks for the upload!

    Alba gu brath!

  • This is a beautiful song from a beautiful Irish poem (written by a man named Padraic who did migrate to America and lived and died in Connecticut!). It's so lovely, it can be enjoyed by anyone from any country.

  • i dodt know that cool

  • Goodness, so amazing the way he sings, and the way the musicians play, they own the tune.

  • Sinéad O'Connor is better

  • @Bela010 -

matter of taste and sentiment, earwise.

Up to now I preferred women singing this song, though the first time I heard it was by Van Morrison, bless his liver, decades ago.

Thanks for your comment and fare the well.

  • Goodness, what voice, what expression.
