the USA in their indiscriminate killing of hundreds of thousands of SE Asians, to Mandela in S. Africa, to Stauffenberg and Dieter Dengler's grandfather (who was the only known citizen in his little German town of Wildberg to vote aganist Hitler & who was ostracized by the villagers) in Germany, to Gandhi in Dina, to Henry David Thoreau in the USA whose "Civil Disobedience" so inspired Gandhi... individuals CAN and DO make a difference in our homo sapien species...
That was a remarkable, little reflection you did there, contrasting your own father, a Nazi loyalist to the very end of his life against Stauffenberg. What makes this little mini documentary unique was that YOU actually grew up and, for some time, lived in the same apartment building where the Stauffenbergs lived! From the student who just burnt himself to death in Tunisia, protesting his government's tyranny, to the Buddhist Monk who burnt himself protesting the South Veitnamese gov't &
Your words are extremely encouraging, and such a fascinating history. To be able to tell the tale of a man who courageously served his country no matter what the cost...and present footage and insight of both your father and Stauffenberg.
Just thinking about what Stauffenberg did, without thinking about the consequences of his own life, is inspiring and sometimes makes my eyes water.
I find that no matter what country someone is from, if they are THIS righteous, they are a hero.
Excellent film! The busts of Stauffenberg, Willy Aron, and Hans Wolfel, are to be erected as a memorial to civil courage in Bamberg by the Willy Aron Society. This is the same group that sponsors the Stollperstein or stumbling stones in Bamberg. They put a stone for Stauffenberg on the corner next to his house alongside one to his mother-in-law who was also killed in a concentration camp because of the conspiracy.
@BattyProf Thanks for your comments. I have to visit the house again next time I am in Bamberg. I have missed that one when I was there in October of last year.
Blind loyalty matures into fundamentalism. As human beings we should never forget obedience is a very poor excuse for inmorality and inhumanity.
I believe it is all too easy to judge people almost 70 years later: We know a lot more than they ever knew. We hold tomorrow's newspaper in our hands.
We have to learn to respect those who stood for their convictiones, even if we do not agree with them.
Actually, I was impressed by the historic accuracy of the Valkyrie movie but it missed out the historic context. Some issues were plain wrong.Stauffenberg's wife knew about the conspiracy to kill Hitler and kept quite throughout her ordeal in a concentration camp.
the only thing ifound that was not accurate in Valkyrie was Ludwig Bck's Death. I Read he tried to kill himself twice both times he missed his temple in the end an officer killed him. I think The directer just did not want to show that it would have been a gruesome scene.
Absolutely beautiful. I know very little about the plot to rid Germany of Hitler. Your personal journey really touched me and reminded me that there are people in this world who follow their personal convictions and not those of a horrendous regime.
I showed this to my father, who was in the US Army in WW2. He was in the Battle of the Bulge (The Ardennes Offensive) and also helped to liberate the concentration camps, and really thought you did a wonderful job.
Thanks from both of us. Although my father does not speak much of the war, he did talk more than usual after viewing this.
Staffenberg and his kamrets is true heros we will not forget them
what the are and why de died for.

I enjoyed this much more than America's version of Stauffenberg, 'Valkyrie'. So wonderful of you to share the story of him yourself. thank you.
