Please pardon my insipidness, but is this related to GunHed/Blazing Lazers? Because the similarity between the two is uncanny... it's like the similarities between Daioh and Shienryu.
This music rocks. I'd say it is the 2nd or 3rd best in the series. Oh, look at the pretty grass, and nice power plant foundation. Ha, ha, cute dance you did with the multi ships there.
So far, I've only played Final Soldier and Star Soldier via Virtual Console downloads (but have not beaten the latter yet; it is quite difficult, especially on the last six stages), but both Soldier Blade and Super Star Soldier are indeed incredible-looking. Since I have an actual TurboGrafx-16 console, I'm hoping to get a copy of these two games to one day try them out for myself.
I actually have Soldier Blade for my Nintendo Wii and love it!!. Only Raiden, Space Megaforce (SNES), and Radiant Silvergun can compete with this awesome vertical shooter.
Cool!! i actually have a Turbo Duo myself. However, i only got it many years ago to get my favorite Turbo Duo CD games (Gradius II, Gate of Thunder, Lords of Thunder, and Castlevania: Rondo of Blood. Classic stuff :).
I have yet to get a CD unit for my TurboGrafx-16, but I also have played Lords of Thunder on Virtual Console, and it's quite the fantastic shooter, too (because of the number of high-quality shooters on the system, I've given the PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16 the title of "The Shooter's Paradise"). TurboDuo consoles are quite rare to find, I hear; I think it's great that you have one since you can easily play both TurboChip and CD-ROM on it.
It's funny. Back in the day, everyone discredited the TG16 for having an 8-bit processor. Now, people are returning to the TG-16 instead of the other 16-bit consoles -- for fun's sake.
TG-16 games play like NES games but have the flashy colorful look of Neo Geo games -- the best of both worlds.
I could barely tell the difference between 16-bits and 8-bits. But I surely can SEE the difference between the 256 colors TG16 and 64 colors Genesis. Compare Ghouls N Ghost to see. TOO LATE, SADLY
Heh. Well, it's nice to see you again, too :P. People have been returning to the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis as well, but I haven't heard of anyone who exclusively is going back to playing the TurboGrafx-16. Also, it has a couple of 16-bit GPUs (one for color output, and the other for objects), giving its graphics a high-clarity look. Ghouls N Ghosts was for the short-lived SuperGrafx, a true 16-bit NEC console released only in Japan that had about six games released for it.
On the whole historical prespective, you have went back to the primary 16-bit systems :). I'm a bit uncertain about its color output, but since 16 squared is 256 (to represent that word length, or bit amount, consists of combinations of 1's and 0's), I can see that being the more possible value. I did much of the learning about the TurboGrafx-16 in 2007, and from that I've grown to appreciate the system.
Nice run!

@clownjeans Actually, on the Wii Shop channel it's classified as a "Soldier" game in the description.
