That's just progress you're seeing. If it stayed the same style, same steps for 50+ years no one would take any interest in picking it up any longer. Dance is about expression, not replication.
He's certainly excellent, but I just don't see how you can compare him to the old time greats. He's very heavy footed in my opinion. Doesn't have the finesse of Gregory Hines, Sammy Davis Jr. and those who came before them.
