u need to heat the wood to a high temp not set it directly on fire. try using a burner underneath the tank of wood, sealing off the tank and plumbing fittings on the tank to collect the gasses
put a lid on it so the air intake is the same size as your exhaust on the blower then the downdraft oven will get to the right operating temp and you can load it full and enjoy
the actual problem is the way you're lighting the fire. downdraft gassifiers need to be filled with wood then ignited from the top so that the flame burns downward
i bet if you put more wood in that fire tube (filled it all the way up) you would get a flammable gas
