I would luv for the performance benchmark for mustang be the GTR. As is I would luv for the GT500 to top 195, hit sixty in 3.5 and most importantly handle very well and balanced on winding roads. But i definately think mustang moved in the right direction with this new gen, plus the GT500 has lost some weight up front going to an all aluminum engine.
This is easy, I have test driven both cars, both 6 speeds, and the Mustang was easily faster than the Camaro. Not saying the Camaro wasn't fast, but the Mustang was just fucking ridiculous.
I have seen as fast as 12.7 from car reveiwers for the 5.0 and as fast as 13.1 for the SS. AmericanMuscle's automatic 5.0 factory stock runs a 13.02 and 13.03 @ 110 mph so Im pretty sure a stock 6 spd can spank that.
Ford finally gave the Mustang the power it needs to run with the Camaro. The previous models in the 90s & 2000s had a lot less power than the Camaro & Trans Am. U had to pay a lot extra to get a Cobra or Roush, Saleen, etc. to get that performance. Its nice to see they offer the 5.0L motor as a standard engine & not extra. At first, it was easy, the Challenger or Camaro came first for me, but now it a tough decision. Shoot, I'll take em all!!!
The 5.0 is sweet - nice job on improving the "overall "package. Very impressive! From an objective review the rear end styling especially the quarters needs more "strength", the front and sides are strong but from the b pillar onwards it just disappears and turns to mush...the rear is the view most everyone will see when this machine is unleashed!
Where is the bulk that the 69 and 67's had, or some character line that carries rearward?, I owned a 67 fastback so you may know what I mean.

@krypekeeper These numbers will vary based upon conditions. That 4.4 was in Nevada, where the tarmac was very very hot so the tires were very sticky. If it's in the 60's or 70's, you'll get more wheelspin which will cost you a few tenths.
A lot of people are complaining about the times, but all the articles i read where they got 4.3 or faster 0-60 was with the 3.73 gears (a $400 dollar option) they may not have had that with this car. Even at 4.6 its faster than the SS camaro and the srt-8 challenger. by a tenth of a second or more.
The 5.0 is faster, stronger, sleeker and more potent than the camaro and challenger put together. These people obviously had a crappy driver! 0-60 in 4.3 seconds not 4.6 seconds.

If I had to choose between any new car from the Big 3 under $40,000 right now, it would definitely be the 2011 Mustang GT. They're saying 4.6s 0-60 and 13.2 1/4 mile.. but other reviews are getting 4.3s 0-60 and 12.7-12.8 1/4's out of this car. That is unheard of for a $30,000 car! 412hp?! Holy crap.. Too bad I'm a Nissan guy! Maybe if I REALLY need a small back seat someday soon, I'll think about trading my 07 350z in for one.. Different class of car, I know.. but 412hp.. wow.
After owning a 99GT, I am happy to see a 12 second stock Mustang. Not only is the GT impressive, but also the V6 Mustang is impressive. Ford is making money and doing better than any other manufacturer right now and the new mustang is only going to help. We can have the Mustang vs Camaro debate, like that is anything new, until they throw dirt on us. The fact is, Ford is killing GM in the financial battle and GM is still hemorrhaging losses.

That would put the the power at the crank up at 435-455, assuming the 10%-15%. how the hell does it get rated from 412-455?!!? Ok this is wy I do not buy any Car&Driver magazines. They seem to always be off on there test scores. 3 other magazines show that the mustang gt 5.0 does a 4.4 0-60 and the mustang v6 does a 5.1 0-60. The gt does the 1/4 mile in 12.6 sec not 13.1. There are a few videos of the mustang gt 5.0 pulling ahead of the camaro and pulling away quit fast.

These numbers are conservative. Motor Trend got he 1/4 mile in under 13 seconds and the lateral at 0.97 G and a 4.4 zero to sixty MPH.

A lot of people are complaining about the times, but all the articles i read where they got 4.3 or faster 0-60 was with the 3.73 gears (a $400 dollar option) they may not have had that with this car. Even at 4.6 its faster than the SS camaro and the srt-8 challenger. by a tenth of a second or more.

If I had to choose between any new car from the Big 3 under $40,000 right now, it would definitely be the 2011 Mustang GT. They're saying 4.6s 0-60 and 13.2 1/4 mile.. but other reviews are getting 4.3s 0-60 and 12.7-12.8 1/4's out of this car. That is unheard of for a $30,000 car! 412hp?! Holy crap.. Too bad I'm a Nissan guy! Maybe if I REALLY need a small back seat someday soon, I'll think about trading my 07 350z in for one.. Different class of car, I know.. but 412hp.. wow.

After owning a 99GT, I am happy to see a 12 second stock Mustang. Not only is the GT impressive, but also the V6 Mustang is impressive. Ford is making money and doing better than any other manufacturer right now and the new mustang is only going to help. We can have the Mustang vs Camaro debate, like that is anything new, until they throw dirt on us. The fact is, Ford is killing GM in the financial battle and GM is still hemorrhaging losses.

That would put the the power at the crank up at 435-455, assuming the 10%-15%. how the hell does it get rated from 412-455?!!? Ok this is wy I do not buy any Car&Driver magazines. They seem to always be off on there test scores. 3 other magazines show that the mustang gt 5.0 does a 4.4 0-60 and the mustang v6 does a 5.1 0-60. The gt does the 1/4 mile in 12.6 sec not 13.1. There are a few videos of the mustang gt 5.0 pulling ahead of the camaro and pulling away quit fast.
