  • 310 the tops back on

  • Great! thanks!

  • Good job man!!!

  • I used sand is that okay? cause it seems to be working. my tank has never looked cleaner!

  • you should call you vid waterfall filter

  • You dont need carbon, actually, it gets rid of any meds you put in, so carbon is bad for a hospital tank.

  • Thanks I needed an emergency filter while sick and unable to get to lfs.

  • hey better idea save up your litte pennys and BUY one! its great all ready done to!

  • U sounds lyk Granny...

  • is this good for 130 liter ?

  • OMG!!! Thank you so much!!! I just removed a fountain pump and I was researching how to make a filter and found you! I guess great minds think alike!!! :D

  • You're a genius!

  • Your filter sucks crap dude. That's ghetto.

  • @Dalamen check out my homemade filter

  • @MrNeverseeme <<<-click this to check out my homemade filter

  • if you have any fountains just lying around your house, not being to good use...(: i love you kid.

  • Nice job. Well planned out.

  • INSTEAD OF PUTTING THE CARBON ON THE TUBE...WHY DON'T YOU PUT IT INSIDE THE FILTER MESH?...

  • disregard the first post :(

  • @SalmonSlayer1991 ur fish died didnt they?? lollllll

  • @LeanDreMPeters nope the water finally cleared and eveyones finally happy and healthy

  • okay boss my turn to ask you a question in all of your videos the water is crystal clear... im using my regular mechanical filter on my 50 gallon along with the one in this video, and my water is cloudy ive done several water changes ive added the clear water purple drops and its still cloudy any advice?

  • Can i use not filter mesh but a sponge?

  • @TheDragon1230 i used my old glass cleaning sponge and jammed it on the outlet part of my large wisper filter xD I had to clean it every week.. poopy goldfish lol

  • Hey a aquestion im gonna buy an air pomp and making a Gravel cleaner

now i gonna make a gravel cleaner connected to the air pomp the air pomp sucks the water into the bottle white the gravel, filter sponge and the straw i have some holes in the bottle to let the clean water out wil lthat work ?

  • @spongeex What's an air pomp??

  • thank you now my fish HoneyDew can last a lot longer then it said on the net

  • good but mines better, its a little diffrent but works better

  • lots of tissue paper can be used in place of filter mesh the tissue works perfect

  • @airbusa380BIGfan how many tissue paper do you need

  • Nice video, quick easy to understand instuctions. Didn't quite understand the charole set up? You just stuff the hose in that green thing and where does the water exit ?

  • You could also put the carbon in a bag.

  • Wow! Loved it!

  • thanks! it worked!

  • By the way, most aquarium gravel is smooth so it doesn't have a lot of room for bacteria colonies. Dollar store scrubbies are a lot better. Much more surface area. And you don't need the charcoal unless you're removing odors (which you shouldn't have anyways in a healthy tank), or medications and discolorations.

  • Thanks so much for this video! I have a snail breeding tank and my filter for it broke and I really didn't want to buy another filter just for a snail tank. I'm going to empty it out and run the fountain pump into it.

  • 0:49 chuck norris

  • wait, how does the water reach the filter??? Does the air pump suck it up???

  • and a filter? i dont have a fountain. thanks.

  • where do you buy filter mesh, carbon, and airline tubes? thanks!(:

  • @Madday18 Wow. Ever try Google or maybe a store where they sell fish stuff? Petco and Petsmart maybe?

  • Comment removed

  • @captmicha okay ill check next time i go.

  • Why would i have aquarium ravel "just lieing around" ?Juss sayin :x

  • @WLProductions101 Uh, are you trolling? If you have one or more aquariums, its likely that you have left-over gravel (I do)

  • Why do all these DIY videos suggest to use a knife to make holes bigger instead of a drill??

  • 0:51 Holy shit, he just ripped the bottom off a bottle! CHUCK NORRISSSSSSS!!

  • Hey, I'm serious man. You try hooking up a 4000lph pump to a plastic coke bottle and turning it on! Come to think of it, I might give it a go. Would make a brilliant youtube vid. NASA, I'm coming to get you :-)

  • any fountains lying around lol (:

  • @Elitetank87 haha yeah. I lost it when I heard that, too. If you have any fountains lying around in your house. Ooh, I have that marble thing in my hallway and the Roman thing out the back, but they're both being used to store my excess champagne at the moment.

  • Will this work for a 200 gall tank? Lol

  • I had to remove the fish from my garden pond before it got filled in. Since my nearest pet shop is 50 miles away and the pond used a couple of pumps, this looks an ideal solution to my filtration problems. Just one question. What would be the proportions for size of bottle vs power of pump? I reckon the biggest pump I have would cause a 2 litre coke bottle to explode.

  • are normal stones ok for place of gravel? plz reply

  • hmmmm, should i make this or buy a 30 dollar reliable one with a warranty and made for fish use??

  • im geting a goldfish today and maby i will make it!

  • @ HEAVYMETALGOD i take it like a man and use a chainsaw

  • do you have to clen the gravle

  • what if it over flows

  • can i do it with a air stone pump so the diy filter can be in the water

  • can use a air stone pump

  • "If you have any fountains lying around your house" Yeh..... no most of us dont. (not being rude)

  • Can your fish get sucked into the submersible pump?

  • I wish I could cut a bottle so fast!

  • @Karrdeh i can i do it like a man i use a saw

  • You can buy cheap pump in Home dpot

  • Gravet instead of biomax. Interesting. Great vid. I'm runing to cut straw pieces to my filter.

  • could i us cotton instead of the mesh ?

  • can you make a big diy red neck bucket canister filter video

  • Do you know what works better this or the air driven filter?

I do not have a power head or pump. I do have an air pump.

    Advice?

  • good video. and you have the cutest voice =D

  • thanks for the video i used a powerhead i had laying around and sealed it to the powerhead and did it like yours it works great thanks.

  • Ironicly, the powerhead that i needed to do this was more expensive than a filter 15 gallons larger than the one i was planning on making a filter for.

Also i did not have a fountain or any other pump.

    still a great video!

  • NO SEAS MAMON

  • it works great and oxygenates my tank too! i was lucky to know that i had an old fountain pump in my garage except i was confused about how to keep the water from leaking out of the bottle when i cut it open so i first put tape around it and then hot glued it and it leaks but it doesn't leak. like when i fill it it leaks but when it's in action filtering it doesn't so that's kinda cool. but thanks i really needed a way to get bennificial bacteria in my tank quick!!!

  • do you really need to have the mesh?

  • how often would you change this?

  • YOUR A FUKEN LEGEND

  • how powerful does the fountain pump have to be? i have a 5 gallon tank... will a 30gph work? or do i need a 75 gph

  • @steng1009 30gph is ok

  • well! did it worked

  • What a genus kid !!!

  • Good job kid!!

  • Well explained! Thanks buddy!!

  • these used to go by the name "corner filter" in the old days. They do work well, but they get clogged quickly. I am still in search for that wonderful filter which filters well, yet has little to no maintenence. I've yet to find it.

  • excellent buddy! I'll try to do it following your instructions

  • nice video, thanks

  • ıt looks great!!!can you pls make a home made inner filter too

  • You Soundd Veryy Smartt.Lol Thannkkss For The Idea:)

  • smart kid!

  • Awesome vid, and a great idea but you should probably put the filter further away from the filter output so you dont suck up clean water. keep making vids!!

  • hey! ive done this, but my problem is, the water is just filling up the filtration, the input is more than the output, can you help me?

  • i really like this video. you did a great job. i just wish i had an old fountain :(

  • are you jewish cuz your very thrifty....jk and thanks i am putting mine to good use

  • Thank you for making the video. WEll done. Short, sweet and to the point. As a matter of fact I have a pump from a fountain lying around the house. All I need is some activated charcol and filter mesh!

  • HAHA!!!!! If you happen to have a fountain layin around your house.

  • A very nice video, I'm making a backup filter myself just in case mine fail! An aquarium can quickly go bad without a filter.

  • @BlueSkyReviews

Definitely, water changes is also vital to keep the water quality pristine.

  • Thats cool and creative

  • What is with the green bottle with the hose, is this part of the tank too? Good idea, I will try in my organic tilapia greenhouse aquarium.

  • that is so cool do you if it wold work for turtle tanks to

  • 40 people who hit dislike obviously don't like aquariums.

  • Ur voice makes u sound gayyy

  • wow how do you rip off the booton of the bottle

  • "Works well as chemical, bio and umm chemical" lol

  • @brycecd1

6:22 Alex said "mechanical, bio (biological) and chemical"

  • nice job dude. i am getting the advantages of this filter. thanks a lot. . .

  • @Goldfish50Gallon

It depends on the quality of the sponge I guess. I personally had success using a sponge bought from a supermarket and used it in my HOB filter. However, some people say it's toxic and will kill fish, again this once again reiterate how the quality of the sponge plays a role...Best thing for you or anyone else is, don't be cheap. It's better safe than sorry, go to your LFS and buy a proper sponge or a filter pad.

  • great idea can i use it on its own for a 5 gallon tank?

  • yeah, we have fountains all over our house too.

  • heres an idea inseadnof a pump u could use a vaccuum the ones u use to clean ur tank

  • @pjo17

Gravity pulls the water down to the filter, ok now...how would water (in the filter) flow back into the tank if the filter is placed below the water line of the fish tank?

  • @DiscusKev in a fish tanks hose whats there are two ends once u get a siphon going it dosnt stop look up fish tank vacuums or hoses

  • @pjo17

    Overflow filter?

  • @DiscusKev no its just like a lonngg tube it takes no power and it looks like one of those penis pumps people use to make ther weeners bigger

  • its great...bright idea

  • that work wonderful and cheap! thank!

  • Fantastic video, hope you are well. I too made my own video for "How to make your own air driven filter", you inspired me to.

  • You seem to no ur stuff. Kool vid

  • Excellent video. Well done!! :)

  • at 1:38 i paused the vid to go do a poop

  • Meh, nice job, but I'd rather just have a normal filter. Manly because of asthetics. No offence but the bottle looks kinda tacky

  • Oh yeah let me go pause this video to go pull the pump out of my fountain because im a normal person who has a fountain lying around.......THINK!!!

  • @christian1998123

Lol. I'm sure Alex was in a rush, well I'm pretty sure that we all know what he meant.

Making (narrating) a video is pretty hard...try and make one and we'll see how it goes.

  • im making a filter that u dont need to use elec

  • Yea i found a fountain in my closet next to Walt Disney's Frozen Head and they Holy Grail

  • it's really good . I will try to make it.

    thank u

  • That contraption looks like a disaster waiting to happen. Hope you have good homeowners insurance when it floods your house and buckles that $3,000.00 hardwood floor.

A GREAT back-filter costs $19.99 online. Just plug it in and sit back. It will last 10 years and never cause you grief.

  • @coochie2u do you know ANYTHING about aquariums, first of all that tank cannot be larger than a 30 gallon tank with weighs no more than a piece of furniture. Second, back-filter?? Do you mean HOB filter...and on plugging it in and "sitting back" any filter needs at least monthly rinsing and media changes about every 3 months.

  • if you have a fountain lying around the house.......... who the hell has a fountain lying around the house

  • @MauriceLikesNFL some people do..

  • 'if you have any fountains lying around the house...'

  • G@Y but any way ur idea is cool

  • nice ! making 1 right now !

  • @Dattdude87

You are a bit racist aren't you?

  • Do you have to use the pumps and gravel?

  • Instead of getting the filter mesh, you could use pillow stuffing. It's cheap, easy, and reliable. Great video.

  • how bad does it get before u change the filter? (when do you know?)

  • fountains lying around......lol

  • it works great for 10 gallons for about 2 months

  • good job kiddo! saves $ instead of dishing out for a new one!

  • Thanks for sharing. A good sample of something easy to make and very helpful. Cheers. I will start gathering the items you have described and will try to duplicate your work.

  • can you use an air pump

  • Can you use this with a saltwater tank?

  • would have been better if it was 4 minutes shorter. Less chatty.

  • i like your accent ^^

  • MY PUMP KILLED MY FISH CAUSE IT HAD LEAD IN IT

  • @jacob12marcelo fail

  • These plants are not true bamboo - which grows very fast but this plant... (and either way if grown submerged rather then emersed will rot and die.

Ironically, the plant which is commonly sold as Lucky Bamboo is in fact a member of the Dracaena family (Dracaena sanderiana), plants which are well known for their durability under adverse indoor conditions. Because of its ease of care and it apparent resemblance to the true bamboos, this Dracaena is now widely grown.

  • Horrible accent :\

    But nice vid :D

  • how do i clean the shit of my fishes in my aquarium ?

  • @foroeste1 a filter, and you can syphon debris out.

  • do you need the carbon in it???

  • @alks1123 You don't NEED carbon, its just a plug to keep the water looking clear and to kill any smells you have. It's up to you, its just one more thing to keep clean and keep changing.

  • HAHA! suck it Tetra! pay $30 for a new filter,I think not!

  • @quaqa88 dude im pretty sure bamboo is fast growing.

  • how do you get the water to get sucked into the filter? i have a pump and it just pushes air through it. please help me

  • @amandarsimulescu85 fill it up yourself then turn it on if it doesn't stay filled then your pumps is to weak or you have a leak.

  • I have done everything like you said and was wondering how it sucks anything up into the bottle if im using an air pump? can you please explain how to do this?

  • @amandarsimulescu85

Forgive me if you already knew this but you need a submersible water pump to push the water through. Get a fairly powerful one. I have one now that is too powerful. I had to turn the flow down because water was shooting out of it. 250 gal per hour.

  • hey i have a question! instead of using a pump can you just suck the water then put the air tube in the bottle?

  • Here's something you don't see every day!! Instead of an expensive filter for your qurantine tank. This is also a useful "panic-solution", in case of filter-breakdown. :-)

  • Here's something you don't see every day!! Instead of an expensive filter for your qurantine tank. This is also a useful "panic-solution", in case of filter-breakdown. :-)

  • hey you should just put the carbon in the tetra whisper filter cartridge, thats what its made for

  • There is never to much filtration LMAO the more filter the better

  • damn....i would just buy a normal filter....or an ezer way to make one cuz i dont think the water bottle is efficiant

  • Man, I am having such a bad time in adjusting my aquarium , when I get gold fish it spoils my water so fast, and so forth, i needed this one i am gonna try it, thank you so much :)
