I went head to head off road with an LR3 in my 2011 Forester, lifted with aggressive tires. Sorry, Land Rover fans: my Soob walked all over it for about 20k less, even after upgrades. Plus, leather is leather. It doesn't matter if it's in an LR3 or a Subaru Forester. It's every bit as nice. It just goes to show: Land Rover is about status, not performance. Nice try, guys.

2005-2009 Discovery 3/LR3 and 2010- Discovery 4/LR4 have open front & rear differentials standard, using 4-wheel ABS braking to transfer torque side-to-side. A infinitely-variable electronic locking center differential is standard, to transfer torque front-to-rear, and is controlled by Terrain Response, the driver cannot lock/unlock the center differential at will. A electronic locking rear differential is optional, and if equipped, is also controlled by Terrain Response.

Range Rover, probably the best. LR3 is a master but my "Land Rover Experience" teacher said that Range Rover has more power to get through impossible paths.
@extremewalk range rover and lr3 have the same engine if they are both the same year.the range rover shares the same double chasis.the only thing that changes is rims and the cab
@iENJOIskating209 Actually the 2003 + Range Rover used a full unibody chassi, unlike the LR3 or the Range Rover Sport. Thats one of the reasons why Sport/LR3 are almost as heavy as the Range Rover, depsite being smaller.
1. Live axles which maintain ground clearance and provide crazy wheel travel when sway bars are disconnected - the LR3 has a fully independent suspension which limits wheel travel due to CV axle limitations.
stupid SUV ... we took it 2 times off roading and 1 of the back Axel's broke and now we are having real bad problems with the hand break , and now they void my suspension warranty . they sell you an off road vehicle , but if you take it off road they will void the warranty

Defender by far!

2. Weight is bad, Defender 4200lb - LR3 5400lb

3. You can lift a Defender to fit 38" tires, you can't lift an independent suspension LR3 very far. The LR3 can only fit 31" tires.
4. While the LR3 traction control is nice, you can equip Defender live axles with air lockers, which are even better.

In this land rover is the differential always locked or do you have to manually lock it?

It automaticaly locks, as does the rear locker if you go for it when you order the car
