  • thank you for that, it was helpful and just what I needed as a first time rider.

  • if i use the brake when down shifting will that lower the RPM's faster?

  • Thanks.... You solved my clutch doubts.

  • you are the only one guy tha i now know how to change gears thanks i sub!

  • this is the hardest part of riding my new bike :) i havent rode a gear bike before i have an aprillia rs50 (16 yr old bike) im finding really hard to play iwth the clutch and changing gears :( everytime i try i somtime stall the bike :)

  • Ray Romano

  • Your video helped me a lot sir ..I just wanna say thank you for making my dream come true ...

  • can you stop and start in third gear?

  • When you come to a stop you'll already be in neutral. So it's kinda clear.

  • what happened if u are in 5th gear then stop,,,should u go down to 4th gear or straight to neutral,

  • @bluegreen988 I keep asking myself and other that and no one can answer me. People lack explanation skills.

  • @bluegreen988 So your screaming down the road in 5th, and you come to a jam/car accident/whatever and your in 5th and you wanna stop? Well, lets say 5th gear is about 30-50 mph (thats not realistic, just an ex) if your going 45, and then you slow down to 25, the bike will stall. What you should do is break and downshift is you see some end coming to the blockage of the road, or if you don't stick it in neutral and just coast. Hope that helps.

  • Very good video.

  • there is no need to use a clutch while upshifting..

  • The best video tutorial on you tube. Got my british CBT in a couple of days and was gettin a little worryed as doing it on a hire bike. Asked several bikers how the gears work and it made no sence. Thanks to you and your video its so simple. Cheers, Mick )

  • Brilliant mate! Fantastic trainer! By far the best and most intuitive video I have come accross on youtube! Straight to the point and great illustration at the beginning.

  • The most helpful video so far seen by me today and the entire weekend lol

  • Thanks, great video. Always wondered how this actually worked.

  • my mum couldnt hit 1st but we live on a hill so she just rolled a little first then went to second :L

so dont say you need to "start on 1st and click up higher" :p

  • thanks incredibly informational

  • i though american also had automatic motorcycles loool

  • @Portum5 There is Automatic and "Super" Automatic. Kinda like those cars that are manumatic.

  • Good vid mate, and that sounds like a nice bike. So when you release the clutch has it got to be smooth like when pulling away?

  • whats the throttle? gas?

  • @TINATINA2209 Yeah, you have to turn the right handle in towards you.

  • thx

  • Very useful, I thought it was hard changing gears, it's just like a car gear box, use ur foot in the position of ur hand and ur hand u use with clutch control

    Fantastic x

  • I have a question. Lets say im at red light. Could i just leave it in 1st gear and holding the clutch down all the way until it turns green?

  • @408xbaoheeezy yup :D can also start the bike without it being in neutral (or neutral light being on) just as long as your clutch is held in :D

  • @408xbaoheeezy yes you can

  • @Phamstaa Will it burn the clutch?

  • Thank you , this was useful :-)

  • Good stuff

  • Where's Reverse??? :D :D No haters please....It was a joke!!!!!!

  • @Maggot2607 lol

  • @Maggot2607 I have seen some larger bikes with reverse.

  • @BenDoverPls for example the Honda Gold wing

  • @Maggot2607 some motorcycles have it. . .really I've seen it

  • @Maggot2607 ahahahahahahahhaahhahahahahahahaha good one

  • good vid btw, thx!

  • Can you down shift and break so they know your slowing down ?

  • we kinda have the same bike...im asian 25 yrs old but i ride classic boulevard s40 2011....hahahah...but his bike is 250cc mine is 600cc...

  • Is it the same with a sports bike?

  • This was great!

    Thanks Kahlan.

  • Best instructional video ever!! Now I feel confident to buy a motorcycle now. Thanks for this great video.

  • cool man!

  • silly comments aside, thanks this was a good vid.

  • HOMER HOMER SIMPSON or muppet

  • you rock

  • is it true that you don't need to pull the clutch if you need to shift UP ?

  • @crazyphilly555 for me it works fine with just shifting and not to pull the clutch... i don't get why people pull the clutch anyway, it doesn't hurt it:D

  • @LegitCam1992 You sure your bike isn't semi-Auto? Lol. You can shift down on some bikes without clutch but not up.

  • @stevenB943 I don't know^^ Is a Kawasaki kx85cc -03... semi auto?

  • @LegitCam1992 I have no idea i ride a Honda CBR ;) But if you're Shifting up without the clutch it must be lol xD

  • thank you!! great help!!

  • Help, when I shift down my bike pulls back. My instructor tells me I let go of the clutch too quickly, but it didn't help.

  • That made so much sense thank you man.

  • Gay

  • he sounds like the guy from every body loves Raymond!

  • Simple explanations but the point came through enough for a first timer! Thanks!

  • thanks!!! great video

  • Hey thanks! Good instructional.

  • very helpful. thank you ;)

  • So to get into 1st do you have to go through all the other gears?

  • really helpful, thx

  • Comment removed

  • so is each "click" 2clicks? cuz it sounds like the neutral 1/2 click is 1 click

  • is that a harley?

  • THANK YOUUUUUU!

I'm looking to start riding a geared bike from my rev 'n' go (lol)

but the video's on youtube don't show you the footwork of changing a gear...so thank youu!

  • great video thanks

  • closing throttle = not twisting the accelator?

  • @amauta5 Ya, so when you're about to change the gear, you must let off the accelator completey, grasp the clutch, shift gear, release clutch while simultaneously accelerating slightly

  • thanx

  • I like your video and you are explaining it nicely. Thumbs up.

What I want to know is your diagram, it says "1st gear all the way down".

Does this mean to push the shifter down as far as it will go and it will be in first gear? From your video I understand it is one gear depending on the click direction.

    Help please? Thanks.

  • Your bike's gear lever makes sense; it sits nice and snug above your shoe. The one I'm learning to ride on at the driving school sucks; it's parallel to the the foot rest making it damn hard to find and so I'm having such problems shifting gears. But awesome video..thanks for uploading!

  • i want buy a bike today but it sound confusin.drivin it but im gettin it today

  • @eat82991 looooool u buy the bike n u donno how to ride it !!!!!!!!!!! man,,thats the same thin i did today :D and it worked :D

  • thank you for this great help!

  • :D is this the same with sport bikes?

  • @zakipad Yes it is! I watched this video having literally ZERO motorcycle experience, went outside to the bike that I just bought [Zong 250 for $500 on craigslist] and WOOOHOOOOO!!!!!!! granted I stalled out a bit with it [trying to find the friction zone...and trying to remember it] but in five minutes or so I could drive down the street to china mart no problem! MAN THAT WAS FUN!!!! Kudos to these guys for making an easy to understand video!!!!!! Now i'm off to watch the rest of them!

  • cheers.

  • Some bikes you must shift one click up to get him in first gear.

  • thanks

  • Thank you very much :)

  • Thank you so much! You are the first person I have found that teaches you how to change gear thoroughly! 10/10!

  • Thanks for the advice.

  • i needed to leatn how to ride and i dident know what to do wi gears and what neutral was but iav got to admitt watching this has pritty much helped me understanding what to do

  • yay

  • I learned most of this stuff on a Four Wheeler. Its all common sense, I guess I was lucky cause it came natural for me. My bro panicked, and he ended up running me over with the 4 wheeler. So, I will never let him ride again! EVER! That day I learned common sense is not so common. He's more of a car person. LOL. Great video!

  • well put, simple and basic, couldnt have been explained any better. way to be super enthusiastic by the way

  • when im in first gear about to switch to second do i let go of the revs and use the clutch then slowly let go of the clutch and slight acceleration please let me know in most detail. Thanks

  • Homer ?

  • is that you hank hill??????

  • Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww Thank YOU SO MUCH, taking a motorcycle class and I couldn't get the gear shifting correctly at all I was soo confused, I think because the boots I was wear was to thick and big..But now I feel confident I can do this! Thanks!

  • Actually I have a question to anyone who can help me. I have a 2003 Yamaha 650 cruiser with only 1700 miles on it. My problem is sometimes I can't shift up when I want to when im going at least 35mph. My rpm would get up very high when I let go of the clutch. What I would to do is slow down to gear 1 and start all over again and it would OK when I need to shift up. Am I doing something wrong or is my tranny going out? Please help! Any suggestion is appreciated.

  • talk about hard to find neutral.....i ride an avenger(da only cruiser in india wit da exception of RE)......it almost feels lik da neutral is inexistent.....

  • ride fast omg

  • can anyone help me out? i ride a honda cg 150, and i got used to shifting my gears pressing the clutch with only two fingers on it, other two fingers holding to the handle bar. So, i didn't push (?) the clutch lever all the way in, as it could come in if i didn't have my fingers on the handle bar. i was told that this is screwing up my bike since you have to push the lever all the way in.

hope made myself clear, hope get some help

    ride safe

  • can i change directly from 5 to 1 ??

  • @argecs no you cant, but you can just keep holding down the clutch and just tap gear after gear down, very easy

  • I was learning that today. The bike I rode on had 5 gears.

  • Good video!

  • Great video, I'm just learning how to ride and these videos actually help! :) Thanks.

  • Lol this guy sounds like the guy from everybody hates Raymond..

  • @Barmeester lol ahhahaah ya its homer!

  • @Barmeester HAHAHAHA

  • @Barmeester yea DOH!! hahahahaha xD

  • @Barmeester ROFLMFAO!!!

  • Great Video! Thank you

  • from argentina , your video is excelent

  • @PleaseWriteBack Terrible idea. Don't go with how cool it looks, or what brand, go with size. It may not seem like it, but 600CCs is a ton of power. It is the best idea, for you and everyone else, to start on something less than 300CCs. Something rather short is a good idea too. I learned to ride on a Yamaha WR250R. It is a fantastic dual sport bike, very easy to maneuver, but tall. Once you get the hang of clutch and throttle control, then upgrade to your larger dream machine.

  • i have a question. can you only go into neutral from 1st gear or can u go half a click from any gear into neutral. Say your in 4th, instead of going a full click to 5th speed, can you do half a click and get to neutral or do u have to downshift to 1 then go neutral?

  • @f50tube You can only go into neutral from the 1st or 2nd gear, half clicks up or down respectively. I find it easier to go into neutral from 1st. If you are in any other gear besides those two, you are going at such a speed that going into neutral is not necessary nor a good idea, so it is best to just to pull the clutch to go into a "neutral."

  • Thought i was watching everybody loves raymond

  • @Vulcan750L I would have thought a Honda CBF 125 or a similar CBR 125 is the best learner bike because even those bikes like the ninja are abit powerful for a learner

  • very good video~

  • @PleaseWriteBack

Thats way too much for a beginners bike, unless you think you have very good self discipline. With that much power, it's too easy to get into an accident. Too easy to get killed on those types of bikes and you'll be tempted to do really stupid things on that kind of bike.

Better to start off with a Ninja250 or a cruiser, 900 or smaller. Cruisers have a lot less power than sport bikes. Don't be fooled by the engine size.

  • Thx

  • thank you that was very informational and helpfull

  • Comment removed

  • @ItsJuuulBitches What you do is turn to a wall, full throttle it and slam into the wall

If you don't get it after this video. Just stick to driving a big wheel.

  • what about the reverse gear?

  • @engeljakob pad-um pum, tsssshhh!

  • @engeljakob FAIL :))

  • @engeljakob You have as many reverse gears, as you have legs.

  • @engeljakob Most bikes don't have a reverse gear. However, some those large touring bikes, like the Honda Goldwing, would have one, and I would assume they would have their own special gadget for shifting into reverse, such as a separate handle.

  • @PleaseWriteBack

Not sure if Learners can ride a bike that powerful

  • Thank you so much

  • Thanks, really helped me a lot xD thanks for posting xD great
