This is what it's all about. Everyone goes crazy over Zimmer and Harry Gregson-Williams, but nobody compares to Thomas Newman. He might not have the bombast of Zimmer, but he has more musicality and emotion than Zimmer ever will. I tend to favor the darker, introspective tracks which is why I prefer the likes of Newman, Max Richter, Panu Aaltio, and Josh Kramer. They are a rare breed that understand how music and emotions affect one another.
@SudsontheRoof I actually dont think people go crazy over any film composer, their such a behind the scene powerhouse that most dont even respect their music or give it the time of day, that being said, i think that Hanz Zimmer and Danny Elfman are the most famous composers, Gregson-Williams is a little less known, as well as Thomas Newman, Trevor Rabin, Michael Kamen, Howard Shore, and especially Michael Giacchio who did the J.J Abrams Star Trek Soundtrack which was brilliant
@ScreamingTamrin lmao, people who make that same "8 people are on a road to perdition" kind of comment ruin the whole like/dislike system. Not like its any good anyway....
One of the most brilliant pieces of music from the great Thomas Newman. If you're a fan of this style, check out my "Only Memories" and "Beginnings" albums on iTunes. Just search under Josh Kramer and they'll come up.
@geneford71 I agree. I feel nostalgia for the 30's period when listening to this; obviously i wasn't alive then, but definitely just shows how amazing of a composer he is.
Can somebody please tell me what the song is in the scene when they're leaving the house after the murders in the rain and he says to the little boy 'This isn't our home anymore, it's just a house' or something like that. I've looked everywhere, please could someone tell me?
This soundtrack is just purely incredible. I can't describe the feeling, but as soon as it gets to the main part, it sends shivers throughout the whole of my body. Not a lot of songs can do that. It closes my eyes and sends the mind to a place of tranquility.
i simply love this movie! Wish that i had been any one of the characters in this movie just to be in the movie! i miss this movie so much i love it i love it n love it! my emotions are inseparably attached with it!
His music literally pulls my heart. First time I heard this song, I was sleeping and it woke me up. I walked out of my room to find where sound was coming from. I swear it just pulls me. In my eyes (and ears) Newman is brilliant.
@Chowy03 As RocketGooseHD said, the Inception theme is ok, it's called 'Time' - last track on the soundtrack. I'd also go for the soundtracks for the following films:
Amelie
Shawshank
American Beauty
The Green Mile
Meet Joe Black
Brideshead Revisted (series, not film, ages old)
There Will Be Blood (particularly Fratrés, although there are better versions than that which features on the soundtrack)
The Amelie soundtrack is particularly good - probably the best ever
@guaranic Yeah I didn't think it was that epic, I just really like Fratrés by Arvo Part, one of my favourite classical pieces of music ever. Open Spaces by Jonny Greenwood is ok also. I get what you mean though, it was a bit kind of dark and sinister when there wasn't really all that much sinister stuff going on.
@ErikOlafBaelog Beautiful indeed and all the more tantalising & elusive cause he only lets you have that 20 secs. I wonder if he was influenced a touch by the late great Bond Master John Barry, the maestro of soaring, lush string arrangements. Check out "Moviola", "Journey to Blofeld's Hideaway ", "Beyondness", etc by Barry on Youtube for similar moments.
I listened to this song and I gave myself the courage to propose to my then-girlfriend. Usually, when people say "then-girlfriend," they mean you broke up.
god this melody is hauntingly amazing and I can't stop enjoying it. This movie with this sound track was the Irish mob movie the departed wanted to be.

it reminds me of something happened to me yet I can't remember it, it's like something happened in a previous life... (yet i don't believe in this shit)...
I just rewatched this movie yesterday, and this track remained stuck in this made long after I finished watching the movie. Such a great theme, the soundtrack is worh getting just for this single track.
listening to this beautiful masterpiece makes me think wouldnt it be gr8 if life just remains still n beautiful like this music....but when this track is over i realise the bitter truth that it is never going to happen!! but i again be hopeful while listening this for the next 3.06
