  • --- 8 people got lost on the Road to Perdition ---

  • I can never understand why amazing songs like this one can get so few views yet Justin Beiber can get millions.

  • This is what it's all about. Everyone goes crazy over Zimmer and Harry Gregson-Williams, but nobody compares to Thomas Newman. He might not have the bombast of Zimmer, but he has more musicality and emotion than Zimmer ever will. I tend to favor the darker, introspective tracks which is why I prefer the likes of Newman, Max Richter, Panu Aaltio, and Josh Kramer. They are a rare breed that understand how music and emotions affect one another.

  • @SudsontheRoof I actually dont think people go crazy over any film composer, their such a behind the scene powerhouse that most dont even respect their music or give it the time of day, that being said, i think that Hanz Zimmer and Danny Elfman are the most famous composers, Gregson-Williams is a little less known, as well as Thomas Newman, Trevor Rabin, Michael Kamen, Howard Shore, and especially Michael Giacchio who did the J.J Abrams Star Trek Soundtrack which was brilliant

  • Morceaux capable de vous couper les jambes, sans jamais vous les rendre vraiment. Merci Mr Newman, et je parle bien du compositeur ;)

  • Such a beautiful song.

  • holy shit. has anyone listened to this while on ambien?

  • People PLEASE refrain from giving filmfan09's comment thumbs up, for youtubes sake lol

  • @ScreamingTamrin lmao, people who make that same "8 people are on a road to perdition" kind of comment ruin the whole like/dislike system. Not like its any good anyway....

  • One of the most brilliant pieces of music from the great Thomas Newman. If you're a fan of this style, check out my "Only Memories" and "Beginnings" albums on iTunes. Just search under Josh Kramer and they'll come up.

  • 8 people are on a road to Perdition!

  • Beter then the godfather dare i say?

    YES!YES! definitly

  • justin bieber is gay!

  • The raw emotion this produces in me is like no other. Thomas Newman is a composing genius. I do not throw that term around lightly. He is genius.

  • @geneford71 I agree. I feel nostalgia for the 30's period when listening to this; obviously i wasn't alive then, but definitely just shows how amazing of a composer he is.

  • brilliant film, genious theme.

  • COME ON THE IRISH

  • Thomas Newman is sooooo damn genius!

  • 7 people need to wake up and smell the roses

  • @Fatalerror300 more like wake up and smell the tommy guns smoke

  • 1:40 is kind of building up suspense.

2:04 - 2:15 is sad with a hint of anger.

If there is any soundtrack from a film I would buy it would be this album.

  • This movie was amazing and the music suited every character. By far the is the most perfect tune in the movie. Like a little journey all it's own.

  • I would love to explore Chicago, huge city with lots of rain. Fell in love with it wathing episodes of ER as a kid

  • 777 likes...fuck yeah JACKPOT><!

  • This soundtrack is just purely incredible. I can't describe the feeling, but as soon as it gets to the main part, it sends shivers throughout the whole of my body. Not a lot of songs can do that. It closes my eyes and sends the mind to a place of tranquility.

  • This piece of music is a true masterpiece. The movie is far too underrated also.-W

  • @willactual Agreed. It's an incredible film.

  • i simply love this movie! Wish that i had been any one of the characters in this movie just to be in the movie! i miss this movie so much i love it i love it n love it! my emotions are inseparably attached with it!

  • i wish it kept repeating the part at 1:00-1:20 more than once

  • enlightening....!!!

  • masterpiece

  • incredible. This is my favourite movie soundtrack by far

  • His music literally pulls my heart. First time I heard this song, I was sleeping and it woke me up. I walked out of my room to find where sound was coming from. I swear it just pulls me. In my eyes (and ears) Newman is brilliant.

  • gives me goose bumps listening to this piece of music, stunning song!!

  • It's so nice seeing how comments made on videos such as this, are not filled with anger, ignorance, or prejudice.

  • @airbornemilk89 true say mate ! nice one

  • Amazing song, Thomas Newman is actually a genius; he did the soundtracks for the Shawshank Redemption and Lost. His music is so enthralling.

  • @tommy12887 Lost? as in the television series. Thats michael Giacchino

  • @Wicked1865

    Yeah my bad! >.<

  • @tommy12887 Haha You bastard, you.

  • @tommy12887

His best work was made for American Beauty. Check that out.

  • sirius chill still playing this song? i had to cancel which is why i ask.

  • no superlatives to describe this

  • this is a fabulous song and such a great movie.

  • god that has got to bee the BEST film that i had ever watched..

  • the best part is when he guns down Mr Rooney and his crew the music was ridiculously awesome

  • @Chowy03

I would recommend Open Title from 25th Hour. Terence Blanchard is the composer.

  • Newman :')

  • Thomas Newton is a music god

  • my top 5 favorite movies :D

  • @Chowy03 As RocketGooseHD said, the Inception theme is ok, it's called 'Time' - last track on the soundtrack. I'd also go for the soundtracks for the following films:

    Amelie

    Shawshank

    American Beauty

    The Green Mile

    Meet Joe Black

Brideshead Revisted (series, not film, ages old)

There Will Be Blood (particularly Fratrés, although there are better versions than that which features on the soundtrack)

The Amelie soundtrack is particularly good - probably the best ever

  • @madtom1337 I thought the soundtrack on there will be blood felt really out of place and not very good :\

  • @guaranic Yeah I didn't think it was that epic, I just really like Fratrés by Arvo Part, one of my favourite classical pieces of music ever. Open Spaces by Jonny Greenwood is ok also. I get what you mean though, it was a bit kind of dark and sinister when there wasn't really all that much sinister stuff going on.

  • @madtom1337 exactly, but we had it on video and I missed some of it because I just wasn't hooked like I am with some movies

  • @Chowy03 inception sountrack = Awesome!

  • this might sound stupid but i play this when i play mafia 2 it is good and sets the mood

  • Thomas Newman is quite simply a genius

  • If you don't like this song... You've got a chromosome missing.

  • SO HAUNTING, AND ATMOSPHERIC. A TRUE MASTERPIECE.

  • 1:00 - 1:20 best 20 seconds of music ever :)

  • @ErikOlafBaelog so true...i get goosebumps everytime i hear it. this music is like ice turning into sonar waves.

  • @ErikOlafBaelog mah hair, it stands on end every time

  • @ErikOlafBaelog 0:00 - 3:07. Best music ever :)

  • Comment removed

  • @ErikOlafBaelog yup!!! those strings are fucking beautiful

  • @ErikOlafBaelog Beautiful indeed and all the more tantalising & elusive cause he only lets you have that 20 secs. I wonder if he was influenced a touch by the late great Bond Master John Barry, the maestro of soaring, lush string arrangements. Check out "Moviola", "Journey to Blofeld's Hideaway ", "Beyondness", etc by Barry on Youtube for similar moments.

  • @misodudu

    homooooooooooo

  • @cabrinihealth Actually I'm a married female with 2 children. So I can only assume you've accidently self projected...

  • @ErikOlafBaelog

i still have chills from those 20 seconds

  • amazingggggggggggggggg

  • Very haunting, very good

  • Forget the dislikes; the ratio says everything.

  • 1:00 chills are created

  • People who dislike this are lacking two things: A soul and a brain.

  • has a place in all our hearts but let that be few and far between as this emotion evokes anger and revenge and I would not want to live that way.

Saw the movie years ago and to this day I believe it was Newman and Hanks best movie in my opinion. Both are great actors, that will never change!

  • 6 people aren't on the road.

  • Love this music and that fricken poster is effing awesome!

  • seriously, how COULD you dislike this??

  • @Lisanos - well there are only 8 dislikes.

  • @Lisanos I didn't dislike it but oh God was it depressing at the end.

  • @Lisanos

    Somebody with no soul:)

  • @Lisanos somebody dont have no taste of music

  • I listened to this song and I gave myself the courage to propose to my then-girlfriend. Usually, when people say "then-girlfriend," they mean you broke up.

    Nope.

  • how can u not like this song its beyond me anyway.

  • Brilliant. Thomas Newman better get an Academy Award one of these days.

  • getting this for christmas

  • Superb!

  • Everytime I listen to this soundtrack I get goosebumps ... just amazing

  • I wish i were able to compose something like this.

  • So Beautiful <3

  • C'est tellement profond et tendre ca convient parfaitement a l"histoire et joue sur les emotion de spectateurs! Bonne musique,Bon film.

I could go on and on to say how good this score is, I do not even know why someone would dislike it! Way to go Mr. Newman

  • ca c'est de la musique

  • THomas Newman and Howard Shore... man, they are perfect composers!

  • TN will always be the most unique composer for me.. and this is GOOD when it comes to music in the 20th and 21st century!

  • Reminds me a little of David Benoit !!

  • An outstanding piece by an outstanding composer. Thank you Thomas Newman. One of my favourite pieces of his to listen to and play.

  • @baltikaPS3 hey do u have the music sheet for this? or a video of you playing it? if u do please send it to my email zayasfelix@yahoo.com thanks.

  • gives me chills...awesome

  • This and Miller's Crossing may have been seperated at birth.

Epic film (and film score) is epic. Gotta' get the graphic novel.

  • god this melody is hauntingly amazing and I can't stop enjoying it. This movie with this sound track was the Irish mob movie the departed wanted to be.

  • What an amazing piece ... every time i listen to this score it gives me goose bumps

  • ''a man of honour always pays his debts... and keeps his word''

  • 6 people got lost on the way to Chicago.

  • @Philhelm Atleast one person here is a thumb up whore.

  • Gli americani sono i migliori a realizzare un film.

  • Great piece... Very interesting to hear this.

This is based on the melodic major scale - a rarely used scale in Western classical and an extremely common scale in the South Indian Carnatic Classical music. Here this scale is known as Charukesi - 26th Mother scale.

    Cheers

    Vicky

  • WHO DARES DISLIKE THIS?!

  • @DuchessAliana 6 Lady Gaga fans

  • love this music, very haunting! Love the movie as well

  • la musica è bellissima.

  • this soundtrack put me in case i don't know what exactly what it is

but i am feeling good when i hear that

  • how can anyone dislike this is beyond me

  • Newman knows how to encapture emotions so well

  • ive noticed every time i load this page to listen to this song their is a link to a scientology website spouting the biggest amount of shite ive heard in a long time.

  • this song reninds me of my family. It's a sad score with a peaceful meaning.

  • AWESOME

  • Genio!!!

  • perfect music

  • every movie that tom hanks acts in actually means something

  • it reminds me of something happened to me yet I can't remember it, it's like something happened in a previous life... (yet i don't believe in this shit)...

  • very sad movie

  • SO LONG TO PROHIBITION 1920/1933 R I P TO ALL THE BOOTLEGGERS

  • @videogamefreak1120 Rock Island, 1931

  • @Speed4532 thank you

  • Powerful. Gives me goosebumps, but I love it.

  • I just rewatched this movie yesterday, and this track remained stuck in this made long after I finished watching the movie. Such a great theme, the soundtrack is worh getting just for this single track.

  • @ashvin2082 yea, this is a great track. but all the other tracks in this album are awesome too.

  • Beautiful soundtrack to a wonderful film.

  • listening to this beautiful masterpiece makes me think wouldnt it be gr8 if life just remains still n beautiful like this music....but when this track is over i realise the bitter truth that it is never going to happen!! but i again be hopeful while listening this for the next 3.06

  • Pelos de punta

  • È quasi commovente. Peraltro il film è stupendo!

  • this is a great sound track

  • I would die happy if I know this is played at the time of my death

  • @dizzik

    w r u fucking talking

  • What a powerful PIECE OF SHIT!

Just kidding. This is one of the best epic-style songs out there.

  • Love when the violins take melody

  • This is sucha cool soundtrack

  • QUE BUEN COMPOSITOR POR FAVOR.LAS BUENAS BSO HACEN GRANDES A LAS PELICULAS...........GRACIASSSSSSSSSS

  • reminds me of chicago during prohibition 1920/1933

  • R I P PROHIBITION 1920/1933

  • B-e-a-utiful

  • With no intended humor, I'm actually inclined to think that - in this particular case - the five people who have disliked this piece of music have in fact just missed the like button.

  • AWESOME SCORE AWESOME FILM

  • John Williams is overrated. People like Thomas Newman need more attention : ]

  • for being the greatest film score composer, TN doesn't get the recognition he deserves.

  • @ApproachingByStealth ennio morricone

  • Hauntingly beautiful score!!!

  • 4 people should work on their aim

  • Those four dislikes may displease the MovieSoundtrackGod. ;]

  • @lynnvryett

    lol. I'm VERY displeased.

  • @lynnvryett maaaaaaaan this theme is so breathtaking!

  • love it so atmospheric so haunting

  • Best I have ever heard. Thomas Newman rules.

  • awesome score top film

  • this is music!

  • thomas newman rules. i'd buy the soundtrack just for this song alone. unfortunately, as often happens, when directors start calling for the composer to write so specifically for movies the quality of the work they put out starts to diminish as they have to attempt to hold on to a particular sound or quality of sound that seems to sell. i;ve noticed i can tell it's a "newman" earlier in a movie cos it's such an identifiable sound now even though the music is still quite powerful.

  • this song is my drug can't get enough of it

  • there is no words to describe how much i love thomas newmans music. Ever scince i was little i have always listend to metal worked my way up appreciated a multitude of genres but i have now hit classical and melodical jazz fusion absolutley love it mind you i have been listening to thomas newma ever scince i saw shawshank redemption when i was 5
