Until 1967 the entries seemed to be totally at odds with what was in the charts at the time. Kenneth Mc Kellar's song could have been from the thirties.

Were the songs in 1966 and 1978 really that much worse? I like them better than some of the many runner-ups.

By the way, "Rock bottom" was better than the winning song that year. But at least, United Kingdom has had two more victories and five runner-ups since then, while France has never won again (but they were runner-ups two years in a row in the early 90s).

The description for the 1965 UK entry actually is very much descriptive for its success in the contest: always the bridesmaid, never the bride.

Kathy Kirby with her beautiful song "I Belong" accounted at the ESC - 1965 the second place! She was the "Queen of Pop in the sixties" in UK and "The Golden Girl" ! NOW she had a musical about her life open in UK - 2008.

Great Entertainment - starring Suzi Jari - the public gives her standing ovations !
