the cast said it before: whether or not the actors were straight or gay shouldnt have mattered, what was important was that the characters were gay...
@funkyfrash Exactly. Thank you. I know that Larry King is as old as Methuselah and therefore he maybe can't understand that what he's saying here is really offensive to gay people and those who support them.
The endless repeating of who of the actors is straight and who is gay is unnecessary and ridiculous. Larry is pretty freakin' biased. Asking Debbie "How did they get you on the show?" as if they tied her up and threatened her or something. So offensive. I gagged.
@ivetastedblood "why did they cast straight men ? lol :((((("
oh come on, if Hugh Laurie can play American then straight men can sure as hell play gay. Besides, would you really have settled for anyone other than Gale Harold?
@ChocolatePieSuus "I never actually watch Larry King so I wouldn't know.. but is he always like this? You know. Annoying and biased?"
This was 10 years ago when the political climate is very different. Most of the nation regarded homosexuality as immoral. This was a time when Will and Grace was considered revolutionary.
Emmett was always my favorite character :D It's funny seeing Peter out of character (as i've never seen an interview with him). He's awesome! And he's so cute! xD
Do you have any regrets???? REALLY?? What is there to regret??? that he got to play the amazing Brian? the caracter that made the show so attractive to everyone.
3:06 proves that Gale Harold was not straight. Randy made a kind of smirk, rolling his eyes towards Gale right after Larry said that he was the only other gay person on the show.
@Jakeexmvs Ha! That's what I said at the time, then someone said they weren't sitting next to each other, but it seems to me that they were right next to each other..
I admire the straight actors even more, because they're so open that don't need to be gay to play gay characters. That requires a lot of courage and self-respect. Amazing.
Okay, the clip of B +J where Larry says 'Here's an example' at 1:10 really fucking pisses me off. Justin is young here, he's naive. Brian knows better than to do it raw, and tells Justin to use a condom...they fucking cut that bit of the clip out! They cut out the main point they were trying to get across to the audience, about safe sex, out of the whole conversation! They made them seem careless, and cut out the gentle moment at the end where Brian tells Justin that he wants him safe. Ugh.
My thing about this is that Larry King is an older guy .... he's NOT a homophobe. This was something diff. to the public so some people have to get " used" to it. I was really excited to see this interview. I also am a fan of the show.
If you think that people need to be understanding about certain forms of media... you HAVE to be understanding of diff. views as well. People dont understand that people would have a huge issue of this if it were just heterosexual couples.Lets be real
This is not even a real question because it's speaks for itself cause it means that showing SEX is immoral. It's like saying:" gay sex is immoral nonetheless and the question now is if they show too much of it or not".
I was thinking about the sex scene and what it's like for two straight men to do that with each other. Firstly, it's not porn, and they don't really do the crucial part, they just imitate and makes it looks like they're doing it. And secondly, it is not just about sex, it's also about art, the art of making it look not nasty, but rather quite beautiful. So, to summarize, it is all about acting. And these boys are gifted in artistic performing.
I love QAF and I knew Randa was gay and Gale was straight, but I realize now that it never actually occurred to question any of the actors' real sexuality, frankly I didn't care...
Gale raises eye brow at 5.10 when Larry says "...we have to point that out because it's unusual..." Gale might be starting to think "What a homophobe Larry is!"
I just finished watching the whole interview and watching it again LOL, and I found how smart Randy and Peter are...they are really sweet, nice, funny (sometimes in a subtle way-cute) and they both don't hesitate to answer any stupid question from Larry (Larry asks Randy something like "are the writers gay?" in part4).
I don't actually think Larry bringing the actors' sexuality is that homophobic because, as he says, it's quite unusual for straight men to want to play the part of a gay man in such a graphic TV show. Furthermore, I think it's wonderful because it's such a slap in the face to people (men in particular) who say that every straight man thinks it's unnatural and disgusting.
This is so stupid >: the scene they showed let it look as if the show was irresponsible when it comes to protection and stuff. And I also feel like he totally disapproves of that, always stressing how *weird* it is for a straight man to play a gay man. 'xcuse me, but are straight men only allowed to play gay men? Are gay men only allowed to play straight ones? And "harmless or immoral" - what should that state? Seriously? I don't like this guy, sorry.
I don't know why everyone is saying how disrespectful Larry is by stating and talking about their sexual orientation when he's simply speaking the truth! Yes, the show is about gays and somewhat for gays (although a variety of people watch it), and yes Peter Page and Randy Harrison were the only two "out" actors in the show so far. Topics like these CAN get a bit awkward during an interview, but I find that understandable since, usually, no one was interviewed about homosexuality until now.
why out of all the qaf clips to choose from, would he pick that? It makes it seem like qaf doesn't emphasize using condoms, which is untrue!! It is the only show i've actually seen on TV that focusses so much on using condoms, in every single sex scene they ALWAYS wear condoms (and even makes it look attractive).
Everyone else seems to be really smart, in this interview, but Larry :) I really like Randy's responses; he doesn't really hesitate with answering any question and he seems like really a sweet guy :):):)
he didnt show the rest of the clip! Gale Harold gets really pissed at Justin for even suggesting NOT using condoms. . . . . Larry King is an ass hole. WHY THE FUCK is he such a bastard to people on his show?
OMG i remeber i watched this show on italian channel ''Gay TV', even i didnt understood a word what they said but i loved jthe show and ustin and brian character especially Brian (Gale) i thought he was sooo hot and i had a crush on him. p.s i was just 15 or 16 years old lol. and im a straight girl :P
i don't really like mike, he drives me nuts sometimes, but hal himself seems pretty cool and funny ;D i love both (;D) Justin and Randy, and DEFINITELY love Gale and Brian <33
"graphic, raw, controversial." well, it's on showtime for fuck's sake! if you don't like it then don't buy showtime. no one's forcing you to watch it and it's not like kids were able to easily access it.
Seriously I mean i know this shit is fucking old as fuck but im now watching QAF and my lord. what kind of fucking openning of an interview was that?! Pointing out that Justin wants to try it raw on the series as a portrayal of what the whole series is. That is just straight up WRONG!
This show has much more than sex, it is a show that shows passionate love between men, although Brian doesn't want to admit it to Justin. This show is the best gay show out there, BY FAR!
seriously i mean i know this shit is fucking old as fuck but im now watching QAH and my lord. what kind of fucking openning of an interview was that?! Pointing out that Justin wants to try it raw on the series as a portrayal of what the whole series is. That is just straight up WRONG!

Not only is Larry rude in this, he also doesn´t seem to be able to read. "Peter, you´re straight... Uh, sorry I mean Hal..." As well as other little mishaps here and there. You should think people who have their own show should be able to read questions without stuttering. Or wait. Is it just too uncomfortable a subject, Larry? You can tell he´s being weird about it.
WHAT a scene for introducing qaf was that shit? Yeah right FUCKERS point out justins question for doing it raw as an example for the WHOLE series -.- I mean whats that? im sure its not to create a certain image right at the beginning of the show...HAH!
There are so many gay actors who play heterosexual people... I wonder if Larry would ask them WHY they decided to play a role that doesn't fit into their real life sexuality. All the more reason to acknowledge the superb performance of all the "straight" (whatever that is) actors in QAF.
I think Larry is focusing the fact that a lot of the actors are straight for a VERY IMPORTANT reason--to prove that the show isn't just a bunch of gay actors trying to pound messages into your brain that "We are here! This is us! Deal with it!" It's very important to those NOT familiar with the show back then to realize that. GOOD & BRAVO for Larry to bring that out to people watching the show passing judgment that straight actors were hired to support this show--not just gay actors. A+++
Larry is pissing me off! he always says when he introduces someone "who is a straight actor" or "who is gay in real life" sorry but what the fuck has that got to do with it? they are there to talk about the show and the storyline's and characters, not their own sexuality.
I actually thought larrys on the side of u love who u love ya kno coz like he dint mean it Ina mean way and if y watch the other ones he seems not to like the opposing side of the show(this guy yelling about how bad the show is) he seems forced coz he's old that's all
I think it's stupid that they cut the clip when the real message of it is just coming - it just gives the appearance that the show thinks barebacking is okay.
I agree with Peter. The issues dealt with on that show were very real and human. The problem is with people who don't wanna face reality, in my opinion. If you don't wanna deal with the reality, don't watch it. It's that simple.
Actors are never asked questions like "Why did you take the role of a serial killing baby rapist?" But ZOMG if person happens to play a homosexual. It pisses me off.
my god Larry King is ignorant. stuttering his way around the word "gay", and bringing attention to the actor's sexual orentation, or "lifestyle" as he puts it. the whole interview on his part is detracting from the effect the show aims to have on the ignorant and homophobic. You need to open your mind, old man.
@sylar2307 yes you are right. Larry king is ignorant about the lifestyle ( literally) because he IS NOT a gay man and doesn't know about this lifestyle depicted.
I disagree with you though. This is a show about sexual orientation. That is the main topic of the show. It is not unfair to ask about ones sexual preference when it is the topic of discussion.
I'm black and you wouldn't believe how many people would stutter when telling a joke or situation about "African Americans" around me
Why'd they cut out the part where Brian freaks out on Justin and that whole safe-sex talk thing? They took that clip out of context (lol, even though there ARE nekkid guys kissing).
I hate that Larry always stresses actor's sexual orientation (gay or straight). What does it have to do with their abilities as actors? They are alll amazing actors and actresses, and to repeat constantly about their sexual orientation was rude and disrespectful IMHO!
And I absolutely love Randy! He is so adorable!!!!
i love Randy's little eyebrows raise at 3.06 when Larry says he's the only other gay person in the show. you can tell he's thinking 'yeh, that's what you think'.
so presumptuous of larry to assume that just because other members of the cast havn't announced to the world they are gay, they must all be straight.
Wow. Yeah, Larry really seems a little rude to the cast and doesn't really seem to have much respect for them as a whole. The whole announcing the actor's sexuality before they speak thing gets really old...
I gone off Larry king because of this. He seems to need to verify everyone sexual orientation. The actors are there talking in their to discuss the show not who they have sex with. CNN seems to always have a slight conservative tone. The show QAF is about reality and life not all sex!
ACTUALLY (god, what a word), Robert Gant playing Ben is also gay. He just wasn't out in public by this interview, but I'm sure the co-actors knew about it.
Gosh, I hate how people always have to be like "oh well, a straight actor is playing a gay character, how brave is that.." I mean, no one would be like "Oh, an actor who never murdered someone is playing a murderer, that's amazing!" It's kind of sad, as it displays a kind of homophobia as well.
The guy who played the gay character on Six Feet Under said something very relevant. He said "I don't think a straight person playing a gay man is brave, but I do think a straight person turning down a gay role is cowardice."
sure, actors play convincing psychopathic serial killing monsters every other day and hey, it's no big deal, it's all acting, right? -- but god forbid they play a convincingly gay person because *surely* they must be secretly gay to manage that...
please. give those great and talented people some credit for their acting skills. their own, personal sexual preferences are really not all that important.
I totally agree with you! I didn't like the clip they chose either, it makes the show look like it's only about sex. Could they not have picked a clip that showed the more loving or more serious side to the show rather than this one. I love Queer as Folk and think that there are far more important messages in it than just sex, it's about love and family and life, it's unapologetic and real and I don't think that a clip like that really showed that to people.
the cast said it before: whether or not the actors were straight or gay shouldnt have mattered, what was important was that the characters were gay...

wow larry didn't realize u were such an ass...where have i been. this show is dope, he's such a hater~
JSinuYasha 1 year ago
@Defiance1409 right? its like they say "lets show the most provocative, sexual, and sensual scenes to get the POV of the show out there."
rmines17 1 year ago
I think it's stupid that they cut the clip when the real message of it is just coming - it just gives the appearance that the show thinks barebacking is okay.

Oh my god, I never realized how hot Randy and Peter are! I mean, I always thought they were cute on the show but damn Randy!
Gale loses points for the facial hair. I like him better as Brian! :P
laavenderblonde 2 years ago 14
I agree with Peter. The issues dealt with on that show were very real and human. The problem is with people who don't wanna face reality, in my opinion. If you don't wanna deal with the reality, don't watch it. It's that simple.

Actors are never asked questions like "Why did you take the role of a serial killing baby rapist?" But ZOMG if person happens to play a homosexual. It pisses me off.

and its always THE gay role or THE gay actor. THE THE THE!!

he couldn't resist mikey :) who could.
bsxboy 2 years ago
It's said that this interview had Robert Gant so upset that he decided to come out professionally.
(And that the only reason he didn't do it on the show itself was, because he wanted to have more then one sentence to talk about it)
Malachista 2 years ago 2
my god Larry King is ignorant. stuttering his way around the word "gay", and bringing attention to the actor's sexual orentation, or "lifestyle" as he puts it. the whole interview on his part is detracting from the effect the show aims to have on the ignorant and homophobic. You need to open your mind, old man.
sylar2307 2 years ago 33

LilPaperUmbrella 2 years ago 5
I know, I thought that was really wrong - it made it look like they were OK with unsafe sex when they definitely are NOT
schmauften 2 years ago 6
I hate that Larry always stresses actor's sexual orientation (gay or straight). What does it have to do with their abilities as actors? They are alll amazing actors and actresses, and to repeat constantly about their sexual orientation was rude and disrespectful IMHO!
And I absolutely love Randy! He is so adorable!!!!

i love Randy's little eyebrows raise at 3.06 when Larry says he's the only other gay person in the show. you can tell he's thinking 'yeh, that's what you think'.
so presumptuous of larry to assume that just because other members of the cast havn't announced to the world they are gay, they must all be straight.
katiek723 2 years ago 27
larry's so fucking rude in this.

sokushka 2 years ago 9
Wow. Yeah, Larry really seems a little rude to the cast and doesn't really seem to have much respect for them as a whole. The whole announcing the actor's sexuality before they speak thing gets really old...
sophialorent 2 years ago 11
yeh, and you can tell the actors are really not happy to be there. i'm not surprised, he's so rude.

Larry King can't interview worth of shit. Love the cast though.

Larry King is terrible at interviewing. He can barely remember names. Hell, his best interview was probably with Moses
lions969 3 years ago 14
lol your comment is so true and funny. How old is he like 2000?
bokan800 3 years ago 7
@lions969 LOL!
SunnyHappy2008 2 years ago
I gone off Larry king because of this. He seems to need to verify everyone sexual orientation. The actors are there talking in their to discuss the show not who they have sex with. CNN seems to always have a slight conservative tone. The show QAF is about reality and life not all sex!
pet5467 3 years ago 7
I love this show!

peter looks so cute with that hair & glasses, love them all.
Spike1885 3 years ago 6
ACTUALLY (god, what a word), Robert Gant playing Ben is also gay. He just wasn't out in public by this interview, but I'm sure the co-actors knew about it.
cobrastern 3 years ago 2
god larry king is such a douche
CowieMooCowxo87 3 years ago 7
Gosh, I hate how people always have to be like "oh well, a straight actor is playing a gay character, how brave is that.." I mean, no one would be like "Oh, an actor who never murdered someone is playing a murderer, that's amazing!" It's kind of sad, as it displays a kind of homophobia as well.
LadyOfTheFlowers90 3 years ago 12
The guy who played the gay character on Six Feet Under said something very relevant. He said "I don't think a straight person playing a gay man is brave, but I do think a straight person turning down a gay role is cowardice."

For some reason everytime Larry says "actual" when referring to peter and randy being gay, i get annoyed and slightly PO'd.
I'm I the only one?
Jude1144 3 years ago 20
No, I was annoyed too. And also by that all Larry asked Peter and Randy was questions related to the fact that they're gay.
cobrastern 3 years ago 3
Yeah! They are not only gay men, they are talented actors, how about talking about the show??
Jude1144 3 years ago 5
Wow. Larry came off as really ignorant.
derricwv 3 years ago 8
sure, actors play convincing psychopathic serial killing monsters every other day and hey, it's no big deal, it's all acting, right? -- but god forbid they play a convincingly gay person because *surely* they must be secretly gay to manage that...
please. give those great and talented people some credit for their acting skills. their own, personal sexual preferences are really not all that important.
cantadora 3 years ago 22
Larry King made an important discovery that day: Gays are people, too.
Despite all the sensationalist crap King was putting into it, I applaud the cast for handling the situation so well.
Larry: Why did you want it?
Sharon: Because I smelled trouble, and I want to be part of this.
*lol* Oh, Sharon! You go, homegrrrl! I love how proud she sounds. Can't believe how beautiful she is.
XTyphoidXMaryX 3 years ago 13
I totally agree with you! I didn't like the clip they chose either, it makes the show look like it's only about sex. Could they not have picked a clip that showed the more loving or more serious side to the show rather than this one. I love Queer as Folk and think that there are far more important messages in it than just sex, it's about love and family and life, it's unapologetic and real and I don't think that a clip like that really showed that to people.
