I don't understand why people are being so harsh on the actors in general-- i completely agree with silverswan, so i won't repeat what he/she said.

What baffles me more is that you all seem to think Ralph is being more abrupt than Kiera. As opposed to Kiera, Ralph answered with a great deal of thought and effort, even if he seemed a bit shy/tired.

In general, it's completely unfair to judge actors based off of anything public such as press conferences. We know nothing about them.

Silver, it's nice to show compassion. But I can't really imagine their fates to be that sad. They are paid to promote the movie, it is part of their job as being part of the film's team. They live very confortable lives as far as the material side of it is concerned. I just wish people could take their job seriously and respect others. Having said that, it's no essential issue.

To all those who think they're being rude, I disagree. I'm not noticing any particular condescension. Give them a break. They're probably bored and exhausted because they've been doing interviews all day. I very much doubt that any actor likes the promotional aspect of doing a film. Travelling around for months and spending most of your time locked in hotels giving the same interviews over and over doesn't sound like much fun to me.

The two actors seem to profundly despise the event and the interviewers ( asking interesting and thought-provoking questions also is a complex thing to do). One could understand that being interviewed is not at the center of their professional activity but it is full part of the process of promotion they are compelled to accomplish. A little bit of social grace and respect for the journalists would be welcome.

I admire this man immensly. But i realise people do have different sides to them indeed. This man seems to be soo distant and cold and very spohiscated. That's a benefit but he seems soo abrupt. I have found that supposedly Ralph Fiennes is a very miserable and boring and horrible person in real life.

You are right, it's not an absurd question. But I can see how it can catch one off guard. Doing interviews, from both sides, is so much more difficult than a lot of people think. It's hard to come up with answers, and it's hard to come up with good questions. Given they are talented actors I forgive the slightly strange attitudes because they're not into press. But I agree, more grace was possible.

Now that I've finished watching it, I'd also like to act that the questions weren't exactly forthcoming, either. I've seen these types of situations from both sides. I have been in the press section once, as well as having known someone having to answer. It's difficult to come up with interesting questions that haven't been asked, resulting in rediculous questions that the actors don't expect. Who cares about definitions of love? But I get both sides.

It is not easy to come up with new and interesting questions about the same subject. I have witnessed press conferances in which every reporter had their own agenta. But the actor are there and have agreed to answer the questions asked. They shouldn't look like they are bored to death.

Also I thought the question about 'definition' of love wasn't that bad. They asked for "definition of love" they have played or read... not their personal idea of love.

Keira and Ralph are big favourites of mine. I can't say I don't think this press conference is completely awkward... but they're actors, not public property or politicians. They act. And they do that extremely well.

It has become a part of the job to sell their "acting" ie their film. I am not commenting whether this is good or bad, but it is a fact and they should do it with a little more grace.

As artists, these individuals have my respect and appreciation for the wonderful work they've done. As people, they have my understanding that while great performers, they are not always performing (or shouldn't be expected to be) and will show their humanity and imperfections as we all do.

In short, we can all be a bit of dick sometimes and I'd hate to judge someone that way lest I be judged in like manner. Just my opinion.

I guess its easy to have our comments and opinions and judge and criticize from the safety of these spaces even if we have probably never sat where these people do (at least I haven't, maybe others here have). All I can speak to is that I'm not certain of my graciousness when put on the spot. And this has never occurred in a room fool of press that can be as quickly friend as foe, taking any little thing said and twisting to whatever brings them the most profit.
