@xDiscipleOfTheWatchx please don't say things like that disciple i am 47 years old and i am not old and i don't gossip you sound like your very mean spirited, i have worked in this field for 20 years and i am competent and not a danger to people around me you sound like you have been hurt by these mean spirited women.where i work we do not peel pack light handles we wrap them. bye and GodBless try praying for these women and yourself.
@elise969 I can't remember my original comment and I don't see it here. You are probably right I din't mean to offend you. I work with some very horrible women in a small windowless building sterilizing all day which has not done wonders for my good temper. You give some good advice, much appreciated. God Bless you too.
does anyone know about this job? can someone tell me the pros and cons of this job and is it a good job? or does it habe physical and mental impact on health? thanks in advance :)
Maybe the packs are to tight one to the other, this can cause wet packs.!, do you re-sterilize the packs?!?! Being a manager of / and an instructor in sterile processing this should be looked into regarding the packs ie: towel packs, trays peel-a-part's..
To all the people thinking this is a cakewalk job, think again. There is a lot of lifting, sorting that you have to do that is not shown in this video. 1 day in decantam can make a person quit a job. There are also hundreds of instruments that you have to recognize. Very informative video and looks almost identical to what we have at CBH.
I'm new to the CSPD world. Just started working for a company called Case Medical. I came across your video while trying to learn the end users process. Are wraps (like you have shown) still more popular than rigid cases? And which way do you see the trend going in the future?
how much do these guys make? i am going to surgical tech school in jan 2011 and i heard u can work in this sterile processing with a surg tech diploma or associates degree..
Hi , I want to know how much is the starting salary of your position ? Also, is studying it hard with lots of memorizing ? Do you know if your job unionize ?
Only 7 days days until i start my new job working in Sterile Processing at a hospital in PA.. Can't wait to start. It will be me two other men, and 23 women, cant wait to be swallowed up by all the estrogen!
Im taking the CBSPD sterile tech exam in a little while and was wondering if the exam questions are similar to the workbook question? Im only asking this because I never took any courses, just been a tech for almost 3 years at a vet hospital and qualify to take the exam. Any help is appreciated....
I work as a sterile technician in east surrey hospital england we do different procedures as to what have shown in the video. We pack light handles in a pouch and seal them.
I am an SPD tech working in Vancouver BC , I make about 22$ /H I am looking to move out to some where better pay , any one with an advice on where to go ???? also how do I become a scrup Tech
btw, may i ask why it is acceptable practice to have tape around the instruments? and please do tell me the exact reasoning for this (tape around the instruments) thank you.
oh, and there is also FSRACA....in all honesty, i see view all these 'differences' as a result of practices from different COUNTRIES. i dont know if you had a look, but i am in Australia and i already quite obviously knew you are from the states. Anys, cheers.
Now this video was cute. I work in SP in Portland, Oregon. I like my job. Was going to become a Scrub Tech but found it too boring. Like SP better. Great vid.
AAMI anyone? I put insts in metal bowls (wrapped in a non-linting towel) and have only once ever seen a wet load and that was due to operator error...maybe you need to add a tad longer dry time to your sterilizer cycles. How do you think instruments in trays get sterile?....if you say the steam can't reach all the surfaces in a metal bowl...then how can it reach an instrument laying in a tray?....The whole back of the instrument is resting on the plastic/metal or what have you...Lol (cousiwa09)
you must be getting a lot of wet loads! for the use of tray liners is no longer acceptable practice. the other 3 things i note that also need consideration are that your staff working in decon,..WHERE'S THE PPE???? and the concept of loading instrument sets into metal bowls is the PERFECT argur for wet loads as there is inadequate ability for steam to suitably reach all instrument surfaces, thus the steam is trapped and well, wadda ya know..WET LOADS! Oh and tape around insts is BANNED!
@cousiwa09 I certainly welcome corrections, but you need to provide references to support your claims (AAMI, AORN, etc.) None of these orgs ban tape on instr. or tray liners or instruments in bowls (which are loaded on an angle per AAMI). Also, the only shot that was in decon was toward the 3:34, and this tech had on PPE.
What are those trays being wrapped in before the instruments are laid on them? Paper? Why wouldn't you lay a huck towel or non-linting towel down vertically and then the tray and then another towel...put the instruments on and what not...and then fold the lower flap of the towel up and over insts and then the uppper flap down over that and then repeat and then wrap it in a blue wrap?! It would soooooo cut down on the amount of waste...because your hospital already has a linen service anyway....
@MsCorndogs The white things are tray liners produced by Kimberly Clark which have been validated for use in trays or as tray liners. They end up being cheaper to purchase than to buy, launder and de-lint towels.

Do you have any videos on your folding techniques on different types of items, basins, trays. Also can you include the size of the wrapping. Thanks
