I had a tracer which is literally the same car. The intake has a dual intake plenum which restricts airflow. They sell a little chip that wires in and it gives a couple more horsepower and the 2500rpm+ band has a little more pull than stock. I've found intakes did hardly anything. I put in a true CAI into the fender well. I had a higher output distributorless ignition module. Some 8mm solid core wires and capacitive plugs. You can do a lot with that SPI 2000 engine.

@HPJVRBLB44 you can get an adapter plate to replace the chunk of plastic, or shave the plastic thing to fit your filter, orr shave your maf to fit your filter, or coupler.....BTW EVERYONE, IVE MADE PLENTY OF CHANGES AND UPGRADES, ANDD I HAVE MY OWN CAMERA, SO WHEN IT GETS NICE I WILL BE MAKING NEW VIDS

@Groundpounder93 i cut the pipe right behind the muffler with a normal grinder, and a hammer lol, cut a pipe that would make the muffler stick out as much as i wanted it to, welded the muffler to the pipe, slipped on a pipe that barley fit on the stock exhaust pipe, clamped it on bothe sides with exhaust tape to seal it, then welded a hanger and the recently hung it with one more so its perfectly straight now, not hard at all
@greasycan I drive a Cobra.. and im not trying to be a dick.. but why not save ure money for a car more worthy of upgrades...instead of wasting it on parts for an economy vehicle..

@DSKILLZXIII i already bought a garret td05 off of a talon/eclipse but im saving for a turbo kit on ebay so i get all my alumenum plumbing and intercooler and such all in one. the kit comes with a t3 turbo, but i think i will stick with the td05. oh god man, my brothers malibu is f'd up, his exhaust fell off where it would connect to the manifold....so its so loud and he hasent done an oil change.....ever.....its gonna blow soon lol.

@greasycan stick you head down by your pedals, take out the plastic around your fuse box, peel back the carpet and insulation by your brake pedayl i think. there will be a sleeve thing where a metal rod goes into the fire wall, take the bolts off and remove the plate thing, then drill a hole through when you pull back the plate.
so what the car looking like now, and did you ever get new headers? if not, maybe some advice to what i could use. lol. i did a cat back exhaust a few months ago on mine and i just got my cat a couple days ago and i was just wondering if you ever put any more money into the car. lol, mine 97 2.0spi like yours, i was able to squeeze 2 1/2 pipe and found a decent (not honda civic sounding) magnaflow tip. and advice from any1 feel free to hit me up. :D
@odoyl3 finally the weather is nice and hot so im able to get under the hood again! I havent got new headers, but i have gasket matched (ported) the exhaust manifold to open it up and get smoother flow, ive redon my intake using a honda intake tube to put the filter into the bumper area.........
@odoyl3 i got my msd coil pack, and i ported my intake manifold and got new gaskets, and cleaned up the vacum lines. when i ported my manifold i ground off the throttle cable bracket holes to make it look cleaner, but then my 3.8 TB wasnt really working out, so then i decided to switch back to stock, but now with the mounting holes gone im kinda screwed...
...so right now im debating just going with the 3.8 TB and making it work, or clamp my bracket on my manifold some how....so that pissed my off.....aside from some new interior stuff and an HID kit, im pretty sure that all thats new, but I PROMISE I will upload a new vid this week.
When you redo the exhaust do something larger than 2 1/4 inch. I put 2.5 inch on mine from headers back. Now I regret it because I threw a turbo in. So go with a 3 inch. And to keep your car from sounding raspy drop a resonator in there along with your muffler. My car is an Escort ZX2.

no, im planning on doing the whole 2,1/4" exhaust w the cat in the summer cause i took off my headers and found some tiny holes so im gonna get new headers, i think 4-2-1, but ya, im gonna leave that till the spring

its snug man, the adapter thing is pretty common, just search around and pretty easy to install, you just pop in your desired sterio unit in and connect/disconnect some stuff and your set. personally i would get the install done at a shop
Haha got the same problem I do :) So many things you want to upgrade. My problem is not enough time though :) Oh yeah best interior upgrade I've ever done :) IS ZX2 SEATS :) they are so comfy. Also I think I'm gonna go N/A with a rebuilt performance head instead of turbo.

Yeah thinking, escortfocus performance roller cam, roller lifters, stock rocker arms and escortfocus performance valve springs. Oh yeah I just got a nice and really loud knock coming from the engine. It was just idling there in the driveway and all of a sudden a loud knocking car is coming from the motor. I have a dreaded feeling that its the stupid valve seats. Taking the car to school and pulling the motor apart this week though :)

Ford escort ZX2 DOHC 16 valve 1998cc engine. Mounts close to the same engine mounts. Also turbo on a SPI is kinda hard without a stand alone ems.
