This, my friends, was REAL talent..instead of the hype, special effects and crap they use today. ONLY music like this could touch your soul..so sad they don't make music like this anymore...
It's amazing listening to this music (and other songs I grew up listening to my parents listen to) because if you let the current rap scene, the media and internet trolls tell it, black men want to rape and kill you.
Why can't today's music devoid of hatred and cursing. Why can't it be as wholesome as the 60's and 70's. Listening to music is relaxation and feeling good and feeling love, not being aggravated and agitated.
what a great strong voice teddy pendergrass had some folks who don't know any better think harold melvin was doing the lead singing since the group was named after him but the real fans know better.
This song's is beautiful, H.Melvin rocks, but I guess it wouldn't be a hit without the support of the orchestra in the background. (GILBERTO SAUGEN from Brazil)
I'm real mad at dude's shirt with the nipple hanging out and that young ass shirt Teddy has on with the tux tail on the back.
These Negroes are dressed like Bubblelicious, Gay Pride Cheerleaders. If they tried to walk down the street dressed like that anywhere in America people would be killin' em just like Antonio Fargas in "I'm Gonna Get You Sucka" when he got out of prison wearing those stacks with the goldfish in them! #dayum!
@MTXSHO9732vV8SHO lol. I was wondering the same thing about their clothes. Look like suspects to me. lol. only joking...I just saw a video with Teddy Pendergrass with a perm. I couldn't believe it. Nevertheless, he was the best singer. I'm not hating just observing.
@spiritualwoman1 Those clothes look like Prince made them. I know they're not happy about wearing that crap either. They look hella sweet in a Sesame Street kind of way. Beyonce, Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Pink and Lady Gaga should do a remake of this song and shoot a vid with the same clothes!
@MTXSHO9732vV8SHO: Obviously you did not grow up in the 1970's or you would have made such a juvinile and ignorant comment. Sorry that not as fabulously dressed as Rihanna, Beyonce, Pink, and Lady Gaga, but these men were about SOUL MUSIC. Al the ladies you mentioned could only dream to have the vocal abilities and talent of someone like the late Teddy Tendergrass (even though I also find it beyond stupid to compare a legendary male vocal R&B group to those simple broads you mentioned above).
@MTXSHO9732vV8SHO: ...and yes I did have a few typos, but I think you GET the point and I was pissed off. You weren't there in the 70's, that was the style back then, and they relied on talent, not shock value, when performing. Something NONE of those silly bitches like Beyonce or Rihanna would know anything about.
@MTXSHO9732vV8SHO HA ! People of the future will be laughing at the stuff entertainers wear today, and you'll be so mad at them, telling them they don't know what culture was like back in 2011. As a seventies kid, I won't get mad atcha, I'll just wait for that day and watch you bubble and steam ! heh !
@andrewfrancis74 Slow down Sauce Money... I'm 44. As in 13 years away from retirement aka born in the 1960's. My Pops rocked a few butterfly collars in the 70's but that nipple hanging out is WAY over the top. These so called fashion consultants dressing entertainers has been an ongoing problem for a few decades now.
I just accepted that that was how entertainers dressed. Didn't affect me then.It looks way out NOW, but....
I think you were still kinda young when this was out, so maybe you didn't really catch the wave? I didn't know there was a decades-long problem, so (I'm asking) did entertainers over the years not really wear good stuff?
The nipple hanging out; people in the seventies didn't "focus" on nipples of men - a shirt was off, it was off.
@andrewfrancis74 Well... Check all the Doo Whop groups regardless of color. Check the early pre 1968 Motown album artwork or performances. They were ALWAYS suited and booted.
Things changed after "The Summer of Love"/Woodstock and all that and artists I'm sure felt some pressure to change with the times perhaps so their audience could identify with them maybe. Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes were a world class group of singers.
ALL HATE'N to the side....Teddy P is sporting that PRESS & CURL!!!! My friends mom use to wear her hair like that. (We use to call it a "SNATCH BACK). R.I.P Teddy P.
@museack idk about that but what I do know is those are some ugly ass suits. I mean one has his nipple out and I think all of them have some sort of tail going on in the back.
Teddy Pendergrass had one of the most beautiful, soulful voices I've ever heard...incredible. Is that Al Jarreau in lavender (second from right)? Sure looks like him, but I don't remember his being part of the group.
One of the greatest mature love songs to ever be written. It's hard to believe that Mr. Pendergrast was only 20 something when he recorded this. This is a song from an old soul to his lover. Beautiful.
SOME SONGS JUST CUT TO THE BONE (OR THE HEART) AND THIS IS CERTAINLY ONE OF THEM. THE EMOTION AND THE LYRICS COULDN'T BE ANY MORE CLEARER. WHAT A CLASSIC!
Third guy from the left, is, Teddy Pendergras, plus, the third guy from right, also is T.P.. WOW!! Look at him, WOW!! No one could sing the Blues, like T.P.
@tamerswan This was my retreat from the crappy acid guitar & drum crud from back then. You can hear the artistry in every moment of this song! I've added this back to my 1972 playlist. My 700 playlists are a tribute to music like this, the best of a century from around the world & 112 lists for every year since 1900 let you listen like you've stepped back in time! chuck
Man I CANNOT wait for the bio-pic on Teddy's life...Tyrese ( Teddy Pendergrass' god son) is portraying him......How ironic, because I feel that Tyrese IS the next Teddy P.
Well blow me over with a bloody feather ... in all the years ive loved this utterly beautiful song i NEVER knew Teddy sang lead, or that he was infact in HM and the blue notes ... is that Teddy lip sincing here?

@soulgirl66 I knew Bernie. Met him through a Roy Webb who used to do public relations in NYC. Bernie was a terrific guy with a positive outlook. We once met for a drink at the Ritz Carlton....when it still existed....bar in Boston. He waltzed in wearing a floor length mink. The look on the faces of everyone there is burned in my mind forever.

I'd like to know who designed and made their clothes. Pretty cool actually. I wouldn't wear the pants because they are very unforgiving. But if the jackets had a few tweaks, they might work. I like how the guy in blue (second from our left) has square holes cut out around his right nibble and arm. He's also wearing a huge gold medallion around his neck. The fashions of the '60s and '70s had so much expression. I wonder if a museum keeps their clothes or if they can be found in a thrift store.
